The effect of the cross-rolling on the evolution of the deformation texture and the subsequent annealing texture was studied in 5182 aluminium alloy. The orientation density near {011}<110>. The weak ${\beta}$-fiber orientations in the deformation texture lead to the randomization of the annealing texture, whereas the strong ${\beta}$-fiber orientations lead to the strong Cube orientation in the annealing texture. The development of the strong rotated Cube orientation in the annealing texture seemed to be related with the decrease in the R-value.

This paper presents the mix composition and production method that was applied to an extruded Ductile Fiber Reinforced Cement Composite (DFRCC) panel, as well as the flexural performance, represented by deformation hardening behavior with multiple cracking. The effect of fiber distribution characteristics on the flexural behavior of the panel is also addressed. In order to demonstrate the fiber distribution effect, a series of experiments and analyses, including a sectional image analysis and micromechanical analysis, was performed. From the experimental and analysis results, it was found that the flexural behavior of the panel was highly affected by a slight variation in the mix composition. In terms of the average fiber orientation, the fiber distribution was found to be similar to that derived under the assumption of a two-dimensional random distribution, irrespective of the mix composition. In contrast, the probability density function for the fiber orientation was measured to vary depending on the mix composition.

Fibers have been used to improve the tensile strength or toughness of concrete. Therefore many different kinds of fibers have been developed and tested to reinforcing concrete. Basalt fiber is one of the recently developed materials for this purpose. Basalt fibers have the advantage which is the fiber itself is a same kind of material as concrete. In this study, fiber length change, orientation of fiber, the strength properties of fiber reinforced concrete have been tested. The test result show that as the amount of fiber increases, 1) workability of concrete has been reduced significantly, 2) the length of fiber reduced down to less than 4mm, 3) orientation factors are between 0.248 and 0.350, 4) compressive strength and elastic modulus have been increased significantly, however, the other strength have not increased significantly.
A selection of commercially available poly(ethy1ene terephtha1ate) fibers with different degrees of molecular alignment and crystallinity have been investigated utilizing a wide range of techniques including optical microscopy, infrared spectroscopy together with thermal and wide-angle X-ray diffraction techniques. Annealing experiments showed increased molecular alignment and crystallinity as shown by the increased values of birefringence and melting enthalpies. Crystallinity values determined from thermal analysis, density, unpolarized infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction are compared and discussed in terms of the inherent capabilities and limitations of each measurement technique. The birefringence and refractive index values obtained from optical microscopy are found to decrease with increasing wavelength of light used in the experiments. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the samples with relatively low orientation possess oriented non-crystalline array of chains whereas those with high molecular orientation possess well defined and oriented crystalline array of chains along the fiber axis direction. X-ray analysis showed increasing crystallite size trend with increasing molecular orientation. SEM images showed micro-cracks on low oriented fiber surfaces becoming smooth on highly oriented fiber surfaces. Excellent bending characteristics were observed with knotted fibers implying relatively easy fabric formation.
In this work, an elastic-plastic stress analysis has been conducted for silicon carbide fiber reinforced magnesium metal matrix composite beam. The composite beam has a rectangular cross section. The beam is cantilevered and is loaded by a single force at its free end. In solution, the composite beam is assumed perfectly plastic to simplify the investigation. An analytical solution is presented for the elastic-plastic regions. In order to verify the analytic solution results were compared with the finite element method. An rectangular element with nine nodes has been choosen. Composite plate is meshed into 48 elements and 228 nodes with simply supported and in-plane loading condations. Predictions of the stress distributions of the beam using finite elements were overall in good agreement with analytic values. Stress distributions of the composite beam are calculated with respect to its fiber orientation. Orientation angles of the fiber are chosen as $0^{circ},\;30^{circ},\;45^{circ},\;60^{circ}\;and\;90^{circ}$. The plastic zone expands more at the upper side of the composite beam than at the lower side for $30^{circ},\;45^{circ}\;and\;60^{circ}$ orientation angles. Residual stress components of ${\sigma}_{x}\;and \;{\tau}_{xy}$ are also found in the section of the composite beam.

With the respective collapse characteristics of aluminum and CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes in mind, axial collapse tests were performed for aluminum/CFRP compound tubes, which are composed of square or circular shaped aluminum tubes wrapped with CFRP outside. In this study, the collapse modes and the energy absorption characteristics were analyzed for aluminum/CFRP compound tubes which have different fiber orientation angle of CFRP. Fracture modes in the aluminum/CFRP compound tubes were rather stable than those in the CFRP tubes alone, probably due to the ductile nature of the inner aluminum tubes. The absorbed energy per unit volume of the aluminum or the aluminum/CFRP compound tubes was higher than that of CFRP tubes. Meanwhile, the absorbed energy per unit mass, for the light-weight design aspect was higher in the aluminum/CFRP compound tubes than in the aluminum tubes or the CFRP tubes. The energy absorption turned out to be higher in circular tubes than in square tubes. Beside the collapse modes and the energy absorption characteristics were influenced by the orientation angle, and the compound tubes took the most effective energy absorption when the fiber orientation angle of CFRP was 90 degrees.
The use of engineering plastic products in internal combustion engine and electric cars to improve stiffness and reduce weight is increasing significantly. Among various lightweight materials, engineering plastics have significant advantages such as cost reduction, improved productivity, and weight reduction. In particular, engineering plastics containing glass fibers are used to enhance stiffness. However, the stiffness of glass fibers can increase or decrease depending on their orientation. Before developing plastic products, optimal designs are determined through injection molding and structural analysis to enhance product reliability. However, reliable analysis of products with variable stiffnesses caused by anisotropy cannot be achieved via the conventional isotropic structural analysis, which does not consider anisotropy. Therefore, based on the previously reported study "the Effect of Impacted Fracture in Glass Fiber Orientation with Injection Molding & Structural Coupled Analysis," this study aims to investigate the structural analysis and degradation mechanisms of various polymers. In particular, this study elucidates the actual mechanism of plastic fracture by analyzing various fracture conditions and their corresponding simulations. Furthermore, the objective of this study is to apply the injection molding and structural coupled analysis mechanism to develop engineering plastic products containing glass fibers. In addition, the study aims to apply and improve the plastic fracture mechanism in actual products by exploring anisotropy and stiffness reduction owing to the unfilled polymer weld line.

Laminated composite structures find wide range of applications in many branches of technology. They are much suited for weight sensitive structures (like aircraft) where thinner and lighter members made of advanced fiber reinforced composite materials are used. The orientations of fiber direction in layers and number of layers and the thickness of the layers as well as material of composites play a major role in determining the strength and stiffness. Thus the basic design problem is to determine the optimum stacking sequence in terms of laminate thickness, material and fiber orientation. In this paper, a new optimization technique called Cellular Automata (CA) has been combined with Genetic Algorithm (GA) to develop a different search and optimization algorithm, known as Cellular Genetic Algorithm (CGA), which considers the laminate thickness, angle of fiber orientation and the fiber material as discrete variables. This CGA has been successfully applied to obtain the optimal fiber orientation, thickness and material lay-up for multi-layered composite hybrid beams plates and shells subjected to static buckling and dynamic constraints.

The specific strength of the fiber reinforced composite material is closely related to the anisotropy of the material. For the quantitative characterization of the anisotropy in the composite material, applied was CODF concept which was extensively used in the metallic material. As the results, the anisotropy of the material could be quantitatively analysed from the measurement of the phase velocities of the angular dependent $SH_o$ waves.
