이 후 몇 편의 논문을 통하여 160Gb/s,300km(3$\times$100km)전송, 40Gb/s, 720km(6$\times$120km)전송 등이 보고되었다. • Multiphase equilibrium-based processes for separation and purification generally utilize dispersed systems in which one phase is dispersed in the other as bubbles or drops or thin films. Using microporous membranes, novel techniques have been developed such that multiphase processes can now be carried out in a nondispersive fashion for gas-liquid (Sirkar, 1992) and liquid-liquid (Prasad and Sirkar, 1992) contacting processes. Among such processes, only nondispersive solvent extraction of pollutants using microporous membranes will be of concern here. These processes employ immobilized immiscible phase interfaces at the pore mouths in a microporous membrane. Through such interfaces, solutes are extracted into the solvent as two immiscible phases flow on two sides of a microporous membrane. Many advantages of such a technique over conventional dispersion-based extractors have been summarized (Prasad and Sirkar, 1992).

  • We present cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating (XFROG) measurements of supercontinuum pulses generated by using a photonic crystal fiber (PCF), and ultraviolet (UV) pulses generated by frequency doubling of infrared ultra-short pulses. Since supercontinuum pulses have broad spectra, XFROG measurement typically requires using an extremely thin nonlinear crystal which has a thickness of sub-ten microns. Instead of using such a thin crystal, we employed a relatively thick crystal which was mounted on a galvanometer in order to achieve a phase-matching over the whole spectral bandwidth of the supercontinuum pulses by a crystal-dithering technique. Experimental results of the retrieved phase and intensity were in fair agreement with the independently measured data.

  • The third-party FFT IP cores available in today's markets do not provide the desired speed demands for optical communication. This study deals with the design and implementation of a 256-point Radix-4 100 Gbit/s FFT, where computational steps are reconsidered and optimized for high-speed applications, such as radar and fiber optics. Alternative methods for FFT implementation are investigated and Radix-4 is decided to be the optimal solution for our fully parallel FPGA application. The algorithms that we will implement during the development phase are to be tested on a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA platform. The proposed FFT core has a fully parallel architecture with a latency of nine clocks, and the target clock rate is 312.5 MHz.

  • The optical fiber micro-cellular system requires the high linearity that determines the quality and capacity of system. Hence, there is a need for improving the linearity in mobile communication system. In order to compensate dispersion-induced signal distortion, we fabricated the optical feedforward transmitter. The compared 3rd-IMD was enhanced by 38 dB for two-tone case and the Adjacent Channel Power Ratio was enhanced by 20 dB for W-CDMA 1 carrier and by 16 dB for W-CDMA 3 carriers. Also, the induced noise level was reduced.

  • Oil-based nanofluids are prepared by dispersing spherical and fiber-shaped $Al_2O_3$ and AlN nanoparticles in transformer oil. Two hydrophobic surface modification processes are compared in this investigation. It is obvious that the combination of nanoparticle, surfactant and surface modification process is very important for the dispersity of nanofluids. For ($Al_2O_3$+AIN) particles with 1% volume fraction, the enhancement of thermal conductivity and convective heat transfer coefficient is nearly 11% and 30%, respectively, compared to pure transformer oil. The cooling effect of ($Al_2O_3$+AlN)-oil nanofluids on the heating element and oil itself is confirmed by a natural convection test using a prototype transformer.

  • The impact behavior of epoxy-based nanocomposites reinforced with carbon nano tube (CNT), carbon nano fiber (CNF) and mixed contents of these nanoparticles was investigated using Izod impact test. The results showed that while the impact strength of nanocomposites containing 1 wt% of CNT and 1 wt% of CNF increased 19% and 13% respectively, addition of mixed contents of these nanofillers (0.5-0.5 wt%) demonstrated higher improvement (21%) in the impact resistance. The trend of the results is explained on the basis of different fracture mechanisms of nanocomposites. Furthermore, the fracture surface of specimens and the dispersion state of nanoenhancers have been studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate the constructability and seismic performance of high strength R/C exterior beam-column joints regions, with or without the shear reinforcement, using high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar. Five specimens of retrofitted the exterior beam-column joint regions using high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar are constructed and tested for their retrofit performances. Specimens designed by retrofitting the exterior beam-column joint regions (BCJNSP series) of existing reinforced concrete building showed a stable mode of failure and an increased its maximum load-carrying capacity by 1.09~2.03 times in comparison with specimen of BCJNS due to the effect of enhancing dispersion of crack control at the time of initial loading and bridging of fiber from retrofitting new high ductile materials during testing. Specimens of BCJNSP series attained its maximum load carrying capacity by 0.92~0.96 times and increased its energy dissipation capacity by 1.62 times when compared to standard specimen of BCJC with a displacement ductility of 4.

  • In this paper, we numerically induced the optimal values of optical phase conjugator (OPC) position and dispersion coefficients of fiber sections, which can improve the bit error rate (BER) and design the adaptive WDM transmission system, as a function of the extinction ratio (ER) of 10 dB and 20 dB in $16{\times}40$ Gb/s WDM transmission system. It is confirmed that these optimal parameter values for effectively compensating overall WDM channels are dependence on the extinction ratio of signals as well as modulation format, transmitted channel numbers, which were investigated in previous researches. It is also confirmed that ER of 20 dB has the advantage of designing flexible WDM systems using optimal parameters than ER of 10 dB.

  • In this paper, we investigated the method of compensation for optical pulse shape distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and SPM(self phase modulation) in a single mode fiber We selected MSSI(mid-span spectral inversion) as compensation method using OPC(optical phase conjugator). We used EOP(eye-opening penalty) parameter in order to evaluate the efficiency of waveform distortion compensation. In this paper, we induced optimum pump power level in optical phase conjugator through analytic method of computer simulation. And we investigated input signal power range being able to maintain stable reception performance under the condition of optimum pump power. We verified the possibility of high performance optical transmission system realization through the inducement and application of optimum pump power, input signal power and in-line amplifier spacing, because power control is important in the compensation for optical pulse distortion.
