An Adaptive Setting Method for the Overcurrent Relay of Distribution Feeders Considering the Interconnected Distributed Generations

  • This research investigates the influences of distributed generations (DG), which are interconnected to the bus by the dedicated lines, on the overcurrent relays (OCR) of the neighboring distribution feeders and also proposes a novel method to reduce the negative effects on the feeder protection. Due to the grid connected DG, the entire short-circuit capacity of the distribution networks increases, which may raise the current of the distribution feeder during normal operations as well as fault conditions. In particular, during the switching period for loop operation, the current level of the distribution feeder can be larger than the pickup value for the fault of the feeder's OCR, thereby causing the OCR to perform a mal-operation. This paper proposes the adaptive setting algorithm for the OCR of the distribution feeders having the neighboring dedicated feeders for the DG to prevent the mal-operations of the OCR under normal conditions. The proposed method changes the pickup value of the OCR by adapting the power output of the DG monitored at the relaying point in the distribution network. We tested the proposed method with the actual distribution network model of the Hoenggye substation at the Korea Electric Power Co., which is composed of five feeders supplying the power to network loads and two dedicated feeders for the wind turbine generators. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed adaptive protection method could enhance the conventional OCR of the distribution feeders with the neighboring dedicated lines for the DG.

  • 태양전지의 전력향상을 위해 외부에 연결된 시스템적인 접근방법으로써 가변병렬공급기(DC1)와 가변직렬공급기(DC2)가 부착된 전자 전달 증대기(Electron Relay Enhancer: ERE)를 이용한 연구를 수행하였다. DC1의 전압이 태양전지 전압보다 높을 경우 DC1은 저항과 같은 역할을 하므로 태양전지의 전압이 상승하게 되고 반면 전류는 낮아지게 된다. 이 때 낮아진 전류는 DC2에서 보충해주어 태양전지의 출력이 증가하게 된다. DC ERE 직-병렬 시스템은 병렬전압의 1.5~2.0 V 증가로 태양전지의 전압을 2.0~3.0 V 높일 뿐 아니라 전력 증가율도 약 10% 정도 향상시켰다.

  • In high-speed train, the EMI is generated by pantograph detachment and switching device of motor-block. Especially, the conductive noise flows through rail as return feeder influences unintended results to sub-station, transformer, etc. These phenomena were investigated by PSIM circuit analysis tool and each part of railway system is modeled by circuit elements and switching devices. Consequently, the distorted wave in return feeder current occurs by the high speed switching frequency, and the overvoltage is applied by the pantograph detachment. Also the distortion of return current is high in starting point and it decreases from the proximity of a starting point ro the end of terminal.

  • Varing the flow velocity of solution and particle diameter, the mass transfer coefficient of the local electrode on current feeder has been measured in an empty flow reactor, an inert fluidized bed electrode reactor, and an active fluidized bed electrode reactor. It had its maximium value when the bed porosity was 0.6 to 0.65 and decreased with in- creasing the height of local electrode. The mass transfer coefficient was found to be high especially when higher particle was fluidized. Electrochemical deposition of copper dissolved in the synthesized wastewater has been performed in the active fluidized bed electrode reactor. The deduction rate was higher than 90% and the residual concentration of copper decreased to less than 5ppm.

연료전지 시스템을 이용한 전기철도 급전계통 전압강하 보상 (The Voltage Drop Compensation of Electric Railway Feeding system using a Fuelcell System)

  • In this paper, fuel cell power generation system that is being studied in recent railway field was applied to compensate for the voltage drop due to the load as driving electric vehicle. PSIM simulation program is to be used to implement the modeling of the electric railway for AC AT feeder system. For it, It was applied to the product-type single-phase PLL algorithm, step-down converter is controlled as power so as to have the fuelcell generation system. Based on it's result, a reactive power due to the catenary impedance in accordance with the current flowing is compensated as linked with fuelcell generation system which supplied the current to the power supply grid. and then its performance was confirmed that voltage compensation effect obtained at SubStation (SS), SubSectioning Post (SSP), Sectioning Post (SP).

  • In this paper, a fault section detection method is proposed for ungrounded system in the case of a single line-to-ground fault. A conventional method is used for faulted feeder selection according to the angular relationship between zero-sequence currents of the feeders and zero-sequence voltage of the system. Fault section detection is based on the comparison of phase angle of zero-sequence current. Proposed method has been testified in a demo system by Matlab/Simulink simulations. Based on Distribution Automation System(DAS), Feeder Remote Terminal Unit(FRTU) is used to collect those necessary data, at present a demo system is under developing using Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS) in IEC61850 standard.

  • Due to the tendency towards large capacity and complexity of power system, an enhancement of power system equipment make a system impedance to be low in power system. Generally if an equivalent impedance of system becomes lower, a system stability will be better. But the fault current becomes very larger. The 345kV ultra-high voltage system will use current limit reactors(CLR) in a transmission line or a bus in substation to limit the magnitude of fault current. The CLR makes a significant contribution to the severity of the transient recovery voltage(TRV) experienced by feeder and bus circuit breakers on clearing feeder faults. Based on the conclusions of an investigation of actual circuit breaker failures while performing this duty, the mitigation of the transient recovery voltage associated with the reactors is described. Therefore in this article we simulated the TRV by EMTP at Bus Terminal Fault.

경전철용 LVDC 배전계통의 보호기기 운용 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Operation Method of Protection Device for LVDC Distribution Feeder in Light Rail System)

  • 최근, 출력전압의 제어가 가능하고 양방향 운용이 가능한 PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) 정류기가 도입되고 있다. 그러나, PWM 정류기가 적용될 경우, 전력계통측에서 사고발생하면, 회생전력에 의한 사고전류 공급으로 기존의 사고전류 크기 및 방향이 바뀔 가능성이 있다. 또한, 경전철용 급전시스템에서는 장거리 지점에서 사고가 발생하는 경우, 사고전류의 크기가 크게 감소되고, 부하전류와 비슷하거나 더 작은 경우가 발생할 수 있기 때문에 이에 대한 적절한 보호협조 운용 방안이 필요한 실정이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 상기의 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여, 경전철용 LVDC 배전선로의 보호기기 운용 방안을 제안한다. 구체적으로는 LVDC 배전선로에서의 거리 및 단락저항별 사고특성을 분석하여, 다양한 조건에서 사고를 적절하게 판별하는 직류선택계전기의 보호협조 운용방안을 제안한다. 또한, 배전계통 상용 해석 프로그램인 PSCAD/EMTDC를 이용하여 AC 계통, PWM 정류기, LVDC 배전선로로 구성된 경전철용 급전시스템의 모델링을 제시한다. 한편, 제안한 보호협조 알고리즘과 모델링을 이용하여 LVDC 배전선로의 보호기기 특성을 분석한 결과, 제안한 운용방식에서는 전류 경사각의 급격한 감소를 판정하는 보호요소를 추가한다. 따라서, 사고지점의 단락저항이 높거나 장거리 선로인 경우에도, 보호기기가 사고전류와 부하전류를 적절히 판별할 수 있어, 본 논문에서 제안한 보호협조 운용알고리즘의 유용성을 확인하였다.

Bus-voltage Sag Suppressing and Fault Current Limiting Characteristics of the SFCL Due to its Application Location in a Power Distribution System

  • The application of the superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) in a power distribution system is expected to contribute the voltage-sag suppression of the bus line as well as the fault-current reduction of the fault line. However, the application effects of the SFCL on the voltage sag of the bus line including the fault current are dependent on its application location in a power distribution system. In this paper, we investigated the fault current limiting and the voltage sag suppressing characteristics of the SFCL due to its application location such as the outgoing point of the feeder, the bus line, the neutral line and the 2nd side of the main transformer in a power distribution system, and analyzed the trace variations of the bus-voltage and fault-feeder current. The simulated power distribution system, which was composed of the universal power source, two transformers with the parallel connection and the impedance load banks connected with the 2nd side of the transformer through the power transmission lines, was constructed and the short-circuit tests for the constructed system were carried out. Through the analysis on the short-circuit tests for the simulated power distribution system with the SFCLs applied into its representative locations, the effects from the SFCL's application on the power distribution system were discussed from the viewpoints of both the suppression of the bus-voltage sag and the reduction of the fault current.

  • A DC railway system has low feeder voltage, The remote fault current can be smaller than the current of load starting. So it is important to discriminate between the small fault current and the train starting current. The train starting current increases step by step but the fault current increases all at once. So the type of $\bigtriangleup I\;relay(50F)$ was developed using the different characteristics between the load starting current and the fault current. As for the train starting current, the time constant of train current at each step is much smaller than that of the fault current. To detect faults in U railway systems, an algorithm that is independent of train starting current. This algorithm use the time constant calculated by the method of least squares is presented in this paper.
