Monitoring of Machining Process by Measuring Vibration of Cutting Forces (절삭력 진동 측정에 의한 가공공정 모니터링)

  • This paper deal with a technique for monitoring machining conditions by measuring the vibration of cutting forces at milling machining. The vibrations of cutting forces in milling process were measured and analyzed to be related with processing parameters. The magnitude of cutting force is linearly proportional to the feed rate and cutting depth, and frequency of cutting force is linearly proportional to the rotating speed. Wired and wireless communication methods were applied in transmitting the measured vibration signals and the two methods were compared. The magnitude of the vibration signals transmitted by the wireless communication method was similar to that transmitted by the wired communication method.

  • As part of the Department of Energy's Fuel Cycle Research and Development Program an electrochemical technology employing molten salts is being developed for recycle of metallic fast reactor fuel and treatment of light water reactor oxide fuel to produce a feed for fast reactors. This technology has been deployed for treatment of used fuel from the Experimental Breeder Reactor II (EBR-II) in the Fuel Conditioning Facility, located at the Materials and Fuel Complex of Idaho National Laboratory. This process is based on dry (non-aqueous) technologies that have been developed and demonstrated since the 1960s. These technologies offer potential advantages compared to traditional aqueous separations including: compactness, resistance to radiation effects, criticality control benefits, compatibility with advanced fuel types, and ability to produce low purity products. This paper will summarize the status of electrochemical development and demonstration activities with used nuclear fuel, including preparation of associated high-level waste forms.

  • An ultrasonic machining process is efficient and economical means for precision machining of glass and ceramic materials. However, the mechanism of the process with respect to the crack initiation and propagation and the stress development in the ceramic workpiece subsurface arc still not well understood. In this research, we have investigated the basic mechanism of ultrasonic machining of ultrasonic machining of glass by the experimental approach. For this purpose, we designed and fabricated the desktop micro ultrasonic machine. The feed is controlled precisely by using the constant load control system. During machining experiments, the effects of abrasive characteristics and machining conditions on the surface roughness and the material removal rate are measured and compared.

Control of cambered web's lateral dynamics by a using steering guider (가이더를 이용한 Cambered Web의 사행거동 제어에 관한 연구)

  • It is almost impossible to have a straight web for processing in the continuous process systems. The cambered web usually causes the strip walking and damage during process. It is necessary to identify the lateral dynamics of the cambered web for the precise control of lateral behavior. In this paper, a dynamic model of the lateral behavior for a cambered web is developed by introducing the concept of steering angle equivalent to moment caused by the camber. This model can be extended to include terms associated with moment, induced by roller's tilting, web slippage, and shear force, etc. Using this model, a new feed-forward controller is proposed to enable the on-line camber estimation, which is difficult to be measured directly, and the prediction of lateral deflection caused by camber. Computer simulation study shows that the proposed controller successfully eliminates the effect of camber and has better control performance than that of the existing PID controller.

  • Recently the high speed end-milling processing is demanded the high-precise technique with good surface rougj1ness and rapid time in aircraft, automobile part and molding industry. The working factors of high speed end-milling has an effect on surface roughness of cutting surface. Therefore this study was carried out to analyze the working factors to get the optimum surface roughness by design of experiment. From this study, surface roughness have an much effect according to priority on Spindle speed, feed rale, hardness and axial depth of cut By design of experiment, it is effectively represented shape characteristics of surface roughness in high speed end-milling And determination($R^2$) coefficient of regression equation had a satisfactory reliability of 89.7% and regression equation of surface roughness is made by regression analysis.

  • Recently, the amount of spring usage is on the increase in the automotive and aircraft parts industries as well as home appliances. Manufacture of spring reflects a need for diversification, mass production and high precision. Therefore it is very important to know the bending method and forming technique according to the shape of spring. In this study, to find the optimal bending method for the motor spring, the FE-simulation was executed using orthogonal array. The design parameters are wire length, length of vibration and feed rate. Then, the optimal combination of design parameters was suggested using ANN technique.

  • In automatic metal cuttings, the chip control is one of the serious problems. So the automatic detection of chip forms is essential to the chip control in automatic metal cuttings. Cutting experiments were carried out under the variety of cutting conditions (cutting speed, feed, depth of cut and tool geometry) and with workpiece made of steel (S45C), and cutting forces were measured in-processing by using a piezoelectric type Tool Dynamometer. In this report, the frequency analysis of dynamic components, the upper frequency distributions, the ratio of RMS values, the numbers of null point and the probability density were calculated from the dynamic componeents of cutting forces filtered through various band pass filters. Experimental results showed that computer chip form monitoring system based on the cutting forces was designed and simulated and that 6 type of chip forms could be detected while in-process machining.

  • G code has to be made after changing the drawing information to DXF file, the converting file. When the information is changed, the converted file had the unnecessary time of rapid feed during working and the large DATA capacity. It need for arranging the information ordered irregularly. This CAM program based AutoCAD can be decreased uncomfortableness in contrast to use of each system. Also it can be increased productivity by arranging information. And it can be used easily for the beginner of the minor enterprises. its program can be decreased system error between others by using one system and increased work efficiency by using DCL.

  • A small hall thruster with a thrust of about 10 mN and a specific impulse of about 1500 s is being developed with an intent to control or maintain the orbits of small satellites. The total mass, consumed electric power and efficiency of the thruster are approximately 10 kg, 300W and 30%, respectively. The thruster system consists of a hall thruster with a cylindrical cross section, a power processing unit and a Xenon(Xe) gas feed system. Laboratory examination of the thruster performance finds that the thruster meets the design specification.
