Use of δ-Aminolevulinic Acid in Swine Diet: Effect on Growth Performance, Behavioral Characteristics and Hematological/Immune Status in Nursery Pigs

  • Certain amino acids are essential precursors of a variety of important biomolecules in addition to their major function as protein building blocks. ${\delta}$-Aminolevulinic acid (ALA) is synthesized from the condensed form of succinyl-CoA with glycine after decarboxylation catalyzed by ALA synthase. The objective of the study was to determine the effects of ALA supplementation on growth performance, behavioral characteristics and hematological/immune status in nursery pigs. A total of 144 pigs weaned at 21 d of age were allotted to three dietary treatments representing (-) control (w/o antibiotics; NC), (+) control (w/carbadox at 50 mg/kg; PC), and the treatment group with ALA supplementation (0.05%; TA). Each treatment had 6 pens (replicates) with 8 pigs per pen. Pigs were fed phase 1 (21.9% CP, 1.40% Lys) and 2 (20.6% CP, 1.15% Lys) experimental diets for 3 and 2 wks, respectively. Feed intake and weight gain were measured weekly during phase 1 and at the end of phase 2. At the end of phase 2, blood samples were taken and analyzed using an automated hematology analyzer. Skin color and activity of pigs (48 h) from all pens in each treatment were measured at the second week of phase 2. Growth performance was not affected (p>0.05) by the dietary supplementation of ALA during the 5 wk nursery period. Pigs in the TA (6.46) and PC (6.68) had a higher (p<0.05) number of red blood cells ($10^6cell/{\mu}L$) than pigs in the NC (6.15). Pigs in PC (12.16) had a higher (p<0.05) hemoglobin level (g/dL) than pigs in the NC group (11.29) and the TA group (11.47). Pigs in the TA and PC had darker (p<0.05) and less (p<0.05) yellow skin color than pigs in the NC. Pigs in the PC tended (p = 0.081) to be less active than pigs in the other groups. There were no differences in behavioral characteristics between the NC and the TA. The data suggest that ALA supplementation has no adverse effects on growth performance of nursery pigs. Moreover, ALA supplementation increased red blood cell counts which may be beneficial to pigs.

In vitro Evaluation of Phalaris minor Seeds as Livestock Feed

  • The nutritional worth of Phalaris minor seeds was assessed in comparison to conventional cereal grains like maize and wheat. P. minor seeds had higher total ash and cell wall constituents as compared to wheat and maize grains. The CP content of P. minor was comparable to wheat grains but higher than maize grains. The in vitro studies revealed that the net gas production and availability of ME from P. minor was comparable to that of maize but the digestibility of nutrients was significantly (p<0.05) lower than that of conventional cereal grains. The digestion kinetic parameters for DM and CP revealed that P. minor had the highest (p<0.05) soluble fraction (a) followed by wheat and maize. Reverse trend was observed for insoluble but potentially degradable fraction (b). The effective and true DM and CP degradability was significantly (p<0.05) higher in wheat grains followed by that in P. minor and maize grains. The digestibility of OM and NDF was not affected by replacing cereal grains in concentrate mixture with P. minor seeds up to 75 per cent level. But the availability of ME from concentrate mixtures was comparable to control only up to 50% level of replacement. Replacement of cereal grains with P. minor did not affect the rapidly soluble fraction and insoluble but potentially degradable fraction of concentrate mixture containing P. minor up to 75 per cent, but it was depressed significantly at 100% replacement level. The effective and true degradability of DM of concentrate mixtures containing P. minor from 50 to 100 per cent was comparable to that of conventional concentrate mixture (CCM). The wheat based concentrate mixtures showed higher net gas production (208 vs. 201 ml/g DM/24 h), digestibility of nutrients and ME availability (9.64 vs. 9.54 MJ/kg DM) as compared to maize based concentrate mixture. The wheat based concentrate mixture had significantly (p<0.05) higher rumen undegradable fraction and effective degradability. The data conclusively revealed that conventional cereal grains could be replaced with P.minor seeds up to 75 per cent without affecting the availability of nutrients.

Effect of Sodium Hydroxide plus Hydrogen Peroxide Treated Mustard (Brassica campestris) Straw Based Diets on Rumen Degradation Kinetics (In sacco), Fermentation Pattern and Nutrient Utilization in Sheep

  • Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) treatment (1% NaOH+1.5% $H_2O_2$; 1 AHPMS, 2% NaOH+1.5% $H_2O_2$; 2AHPMS) on rate and extent of degradation of mustard straw (MS) in sacco in sheep, and its in vivo digestion and ruminal fermentation characteristics when fed to sheep with concentrate (200 g per sheep daily). The treatment of straw with 1 and 2% AHP increased its sodium content by 148 and 296% to that of untreated straw (UMS). There was significant decrease in NDF and hemicellulose contents of AHP treated straw and increase in cellulose and lignin contents. Phenolic acids like ferrulic, $\rho$-coumaric and o-coumaric significantly (p<0.001) reduced by AHP treatment of mustard straw. In first experiment the in sacco degradation of DM, OM and NDF was significantly (p<0.01) greater for 2 AHPMS than for UMS at all incubation periods. The disappearance of nutrient from 1 AHPMS and 2 AHPMS treated straws continue to increase up to 96 h whereas in UMS the peak disappearance was found at 48 h. By using the equation {(y=a+b) ($1-e^{-ct}$)} the degradation rates (c) for DM, OM, and NDF were significantly higher for UMS than AHP treated straws. Level of alkali (1 and 2%) had significant effect on degradation characteristics (a, b, c and $P_{0.05}$) of DM and NDF fraction of MS. However, the effect was not pronounced on OM fraction of MS. In feeding experiment, the intake of nutrients for DM, OM, cell wall constituents and energy was higher on 2 AHPMS, whereas no effect on the digestibility of these nutrients was observed. The apparent nitrogen retention was higher (p<0.05) both in 1 and 2 AHPMS groups. Water intake by animals was significantly increased due to AHP treated mustard straw feeding. Rumen liquor pH was higher in 2 AHPMS fed animals. The $NH_3-N$ of rumen liquor was not affected by feeding of AHP treated MS based diets. Total VFA concentration was significantly (p<0.01) higher in UMS fed group. The fractional out flow rate of DM was higher (p<0.05) in animals fed on 2 AHPMS diets compared to UMS and lAHPMS fed groups. The population of large holotrichs was higher (p<0.05) on AHP treated MS fed diets compared to UMS. The study indicated that treatment of mustard straw with AHP changed its chemical composition towards a better feed. The nutritive value of 2% AHP treated mustard straw was better in terms of dry matter intake and apparent nitrogen retention. The higher in sacco DM, OM and NDF disappearance however, was not confirmed by in vivo data in this study.

치위생(학)과 학생의 치과감염관리에 관한 인식현황 (Current conditions regarding dental infection management recognition of students in the department of dental hygiene)

  • This research was performed to provide basic data for the development of infection related dental hygiene studies by surveying the current condition of recognition among students in the department of dental hygiene toward hospital infection management while receiving the following results by using a personal self-administered survey method targeting 303 students in the department of dental hygiene from certain areas. 1. With the current condition of recognition on the sanitization and sterilization of instruments among students in the department of dental hygiene(study), the rate at which surgical instruments are to be sterilized with autoclaves was 79.9% which was relatively higher than other instruments while it was shown that prosthetic instruments for treatment was 56.4%, conservative instruments for treatment was 51.8%, and ultrasonic scaler tip was 51.1% while the way syringe tips(36.1%) and the dental anesthetic apparatus(27.9%) were revealed to require sanitization by alcohol. 2. The 'hand wash' area was the highest with 4.71 while the 'materials and environment management' area and 'equipment management' area appeared high respectively with 4.43 and 4.41. 3. With the current condition of recognition on equipment management, 'equipments used for contagious patients are separately washed after a one-time use and must be sterilized or separated-and-discarded' was the highest with 4.82 while 'sterilization equipments with humidity or water on it are considered contaminated and are not used' showed the lowest recognition level with 3.90. 4. Regarding the current condition of materials and environment management, 'contagious and general trash are separated and discarded' was the highest with 4.70 while 'the refrigerator for medicine storage is cleaned on a regular basis once a month' was revealed as the lowest with 4.11. 5. With the current condition of recognition on hand washing, 'one must wash their hands after coming in contact with contagious patients, was the highest with 4.90 while washing hands after taking off gloves' appeared as the lowest with 4.51 point. To conclude department of dental hygiene there is to infection management and necessary about organization disinfecting and pasteurization to strengthen an education in order raising a stamp helping practical ratio about the infection management which whole, is from presence at a sickbed and connection does and about the infection management which is substantial and educational program development leads feed with the fact that deepening studying which is continuous must become accomplished becomes.

Paternity Diagnosis using The Multiplex PCR with Microsatellite Markers in Dogs

  • The number of abandoned dogs is increasing with the worsening of the economy and the rising of feed value. It was becoming a serious social problem because of the disease transmission and destruction of natural ecosystems by abandoned dogs been wild animal. In order to solve these problems, companion dogs necessary to secure its own genetic information and to establish the systematic tracking system. Using multiplex-PCR method with 27 microsatellite marker (MS marker) divided 3 set, various alleles occurring to 6 dog breed (Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, English Springer Spaniel, Belgian Malinois, Jindo Dog, PoongSan Dog) make use of markers to determine allele frequency and heterozygosity. MS marker FH2834 and FH2790 have only two allele and most were found in 13 alleles at FH3381 and FH3399. Average heterozygosity of MS marker is 0.534 and especially, heterozygosity represented the highest value of 0.765 at FH3381. So, it was recognized appropriate allele frequency for individual identification and paternity diagnosis in companion dogs. Using multiplex-PCR method with MS marker, various alleles occurring to dog breed make use of markers to deter mine individual identification and paternity diagnosis, traits associated biomarkers and breed-specific marker for faster, more accurate and ways to reduce the analysis cost. Based on this result, a scientific basis was established to the existing pedigree data by applying genetics additionally. Animal registration system is expected to be conducted nationwide in future. The method expects to very useful this system.

우주망원경용 비구면 반사경 표면조도 향상을 위한 진화형 수치제어 연삭공정 모델 (NOVEL CNC GRINDING PROCESS CONTROL FOR NANOMETRIC SURFACE ROUGHNESS FOR ASPHERIC SPACE OPTICAL SURFACES)

  • 우주망원경용 비구면 반사경 가공 공정은 고정입자 연삭, 자유입자 래핑, 연마의 순서를 따른다. 숙련공에 의한 경험적 공정조절에 의해 목표 비구면을 가공하는 전통적 연삭 공정에서는 수 ${mu}m$ 높이의 표면 밑 손상을 남기며 뒤이은 자유입자 래핑 및 연마 공정에서 이를 제거하며 가공한다. 본 연구는 컴퓨터 수치 제어 연삭 공정진화 모델을 개발하여, 연삭가공을 통해 반사경 표면조도 최소 40nm이하, 가공 예측정확도 20nm급을 이루었다. 구체적인 방법론으로 초정밀가공기의 연삭모듈을 이용하여 연삭 휠 입자의 크기, 이송속도, 공작물 회전선속도 등 연삭 변수를 변화시키며 직경 20, 100mm Zerodur 소재를 초기 연삭하였다. 초기 연삭 변수와 측정된 표면조도와의 관계를 경험적 해석과 다 변수 회귀분석 해석 방법을 통하여 공정조절용 수치 연삭 모델을 구성하였다. 정량적 공정제어는 입력된 연삭변수들로부터 가공 후 표면조도를 예측하고, 측정된 표면조도를 이용하여 수치연삭 모델을 개량한 후 다음 가공에서 측정될 표면조도를 예측하는 순으로 만복 진행되었다. 본 연구에서는 CNC 연삭공정조절로부터 최소 평균 표면조도 36nm, 예측정확도 ${pm}20nm$를 얻었다. 이 연구결과는 정량적 연삭공정제어 모델을 사용하여 자유입자 래핑 공정을 수행할 필요 없이 연삭에서 직접 연마 공정으로 진행할 수 있는 획기적인 공정 효율 향상을 의미한다.

카보네이트형 폴리우레탄막을 이용한 에탄올 수용액의 투과증발분리 III. 양쪽이온성기에 의한 영향 (Pervaporation Separation of Ethanol Aqueous Solution through Carbonate-type Polyurethane Membrane III. The Effect of Zwitterionic Group)

  • 분자량이 1,000과 2,000인 카보네이트형 폴리올(PTMCG)을 사용하여 MDI와 사슬 연장제인 N-methyldielhanolamine을 반응시켜 NCO-말단 프레폴리머를 합성한 후 이온화제로 1,3-propane sultone을 반응시켜 양쪽이온성 작용기를 갖는 카보네이트형 폴리우레탄(ZPU)을 합성하였다. 모델반응의 IR과 NMR 스펙트럼으로부터 동일한 조건하에서 이혼화가 잘 일어나고 있음을 알 수 있어, 양쪽이온성 카보네이트형 폴리우레탄의 구조를 확인할 수 있었다. 열적성질을 측정한 결과 유리전이온도(Tg)는 $-15{\sim}-30^{\circ}C$ 범위로써 분자량이 1,000인 폴리올을 사용한 경우 $-15{\sim}-18^{\circ}C$, 분자량이 2,000인 폴리올을 사용한 경우 $-25{\sim}-26^{\circ}C$임을 알 수 있었다. 기계적 성질을 측정한 결과 인장강도는 분자량이 1,000과 2,000인 폴리올 모두 다 이온함량에 따라 크게 증가되나 이온 함량의 몰비율이 4.0 이상에서는 오히려 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 신장율은 인장강도와 달리 이온함량에 따라 오히려 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 물성측정의 결과로부터 인장강도가 우수하고, 연신율이 크지 않은 ZPU10-30을 택하여, 투과증발법을 이용한 에탄올 수용액농축에 응용하였다. 보다 우수한 선택도를 얻기 위하여 hexamethylene diisocyanate(HMDI)를 이용하여 가교막을 제조하였다. 팽윤도 실험결과 50wt% 에탄올농도 근처에서 증가하는 경향을 나타내었는데, 이는 에탄올에 의한 가소화효과의 영향이라고 생각된다. 분리성능을 최적화하기 위해 공급액 농도변화와 온도변화를 실시하였다. 전반적인 투과증발분리 성능은 선택도 2~83.2 및 투과유량 $25.4{\sim}58.8g/m^2hr$를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

농가맞춤형 기상서비스 시범사업 (User-specific Agrometeorological Service to Local Farming Community: A Case Study)

  • 재단법인 국가농림기상센터는 지난 3년간 기상청의 재정지원으로 기후스마트농업의 전제조건인 개별농장 수준의 기상위험 관리서비스를 설계하였다. 이 서비스는 기존 기상청 관측 및 예보시스템 외에 추가적인 자원소모 없이 해당 농지에 주어진 기상조건을 재배중인 작물의 종류와 그 발육단계에 맞게 '기상위험지수'로 정량화하고, 이를 평년기준과 비교하여 재해발생 가능성을 농민에게 일대일로 전달한다. 서비스 실용화에 필요한 기상실황 및 예보의 경관규모 추정기술, 시범 집수역 내 필지별 경과기상 및 예보에 근거한 작목 맞춤형 기상위험 산정기술을 개발하고, 이들 기술의 통합 및 시스템화를 완료하였다. 단일 집수역인 경남 하동군 악양면을 선정하여 이 시스템을 설치하고 230농가 400필지를 대상으로 시범서비스를 구현하였다. 이 과정에서 얻어진 경험을 공유함으로써 향후 농업부문의 기상이변 대응 조기경보서비스 구축에 기여하고자 한다.

Effect of replacing corn with soy hulls on nutrient digestibility of growing pigs

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of replacing corn with soy hulls on nutrient digestibility of growing pigs. Three experimental diets were tested using a 3 × 3 Latin square design using three barrows per group (Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc, average initial body weight of 36.9 ± 4.0 kg) in individual metabolic cages. The dietary treatments were the control (CON) basal diet (corn-soybean meal based diet), whereas in the test diets, soy hulls were included at 5% (H1), 10% (H2), gradually replacing corn. The daily feed allowance was adjusted to 2.7 times the maintenance requirement for digestible energy (DE) (2.7 × 110 kcal of DE/kg BW0.75). Intake of crude fiber (CF) was different among treatments (p < 0.05). Pigs fed with H2 diet excreted higher concentrations of dry matter (DM), and CF than pigs fed with H1 diet and basal diet (p < 0.05). Pigs fed with H1 and H2 diets excreted higher concentrations of crude protein (CP) than pigs fed with CON diet (p < 0.05). The apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of CF from H1 and H2 diets were higher than CON diet (p < 0.05). Pigs fed with H2 diets were significantly lower (p < 0.05) the ATTD of CP than the pigs fed with CON and H1 diets. The current data suggest that 10% inclusion soy hulls can slightly decrease CP digestibility. However, soy hulls considerably increased CF digestibility.It is concluded that 5% soy hulls may be a usable alternative to corn in growing pig diets.

한국형 냉장편의식 개발을 위한 주부들의 인식 조사 (The Survey of Housewives' Perception for the Development of Refrigerated Convenience Foods for Koreans)

  • To provide basic information for the development of refrigerated convenience foods for Koreans, 492 house-wives residing in Seoul and Kyunggi Province were surveyed concerning satisfaction of buying precooked convenience foods, frequency of using them, preferred Korean dishes, and willingness to buy the convenience foods if they are developed. Statistical data analysis was completed using SAS package program. The satisfaction mean score of the marketed precooked convenience foods was 2.73 out of 5 and the housewives were least satisfied with feed additives and sanitation factors. The factors affecting satisfaction in purchasing were sanitation, taste, variety of type, nutrition, price, and food additives for side-dishes sold refrigerated or at room temperature, and taste, sanitation, variety of type, price, nutrition, and food additives for frozen prepared foods in order respectively. The frequency of using the precooked convenience foods was generally low but that of using the pickled dishes, Jokbal Soondae, and frozen prepared foods was relatively high. The answer of 'the thought that meals should be prepared in households' was the primary reason for avoiding using the precooked convenience foods and 'no time to cook' was the most frequent answer among the reasons for using them. Currently, the precooked convenience foods were used for snacks mainly, but the usages to be expected to increase were for lunchbox, main dishes, snacks, side dishes, special occasions foods, and leisure foods in order. Based on preference and buying priority, the dishes needed to be developed as refrigerated convenience foods among Korean dishes were identified. The result showed that 'preference' was not consistent with buying priority and the housewives perceived the factor of 'convenience' more importantly than 'preference' in purchasing the convenience foods.
