  • In swine production, efficiency of utilization of nutrients is imperative. By embracing advances in processing techniques(i.e., fine grinding, pelleting, steam flaking, roasting, extrusion and expanding) nutrient utilization of feeds turfs have greatly improved. Grinding is by far the most commonly used process with reduction of particle size, Expander, like extruders, are high-temperature and pressure-short-term processor. The purpose of using an expander is to improve pellet quality. Also, expanding of dietary ingredients indicates improvements in growth performance and nutrient digestibility. Because feed cost are easily the greatest economic input into swine production, maximizing nutrient utilization is an area that will continue to receive much attention. Therefore, much attention will continue to be placed on feed processing techniques that will give consistent improvements in animal performance and nutrient digestibility.

  • The present study explored the way to desalinate seawater for agricultural irrigation using forward osmosis (FO) process using liquid fertilizer as draw solution. FO experiments were performed in a cross flow mode using flat sheet FO membrane. The effect of membrane orientation, flow rate, and draw solution concentration on the performance of forward osmosis was investigated by measuring water flux of forward osmosis membrane. The water flux when the draw solution was placed against the membrane active layer was lower than the water flux when the feed solution was placed against the membrane active layer. This results indicated that the decrease of effective osmotic pressure by dilutive internal concentration polarization was less than that by concentrative internal concentration polarization. Increasing flow rate from 66.7 to 133.1 $cm^3$/min resulted in increase of the water flux when the membrane active layer orient to draw solution and feed solution, respectively. The reduction of resistance to water flow increased water flux at higher flow rate. The water flux of FO membrane increased with increasing draw solution concentration from 10000 to 30000 mg/L. The water flux for $KH_2PO_4$ draw solution was similar to that for commercial fertilizer. Optimization of FO process would contribute to economically desalinate brackish water for agricultural use.

  • Forward osmosis (FO) is an emerging membrane technology with potential applications in desalination and wastewater reclamation. The osmotic pressure gradient across the FO membrane is used to generate water flux. In this study, flux performance and foulant deposition on the FO membrane were systematically investigated with a co-current cross-flow membrane system. Sodium alginate (SA), bovine serum albumin (BSA) and tannic acid (TA) were used as model foulants. Organics adsorbed on the membrane were peeled off via oscillation and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). When an initial flux of $8.42L/m^2h$ was applied, both flux reduction and foulant deposition were slight for the feed solution containing BSA and TA. In comparison, flux reduction and foulant deposition were much more severe for the feed solution containing SA, as a distinct SA cake-layer was formed on the membrane surface and played a crucial role in membrane fouling. In addition, as the initial SA concentration increased in FS, the thickness of the cake-layer increased remarkably, and the membrane fouling became more severe.

  • We proposed perfect recycling method of sea waste. The sea waste(rotten sea fish, rotten shell fish etc.) have bad smell and generate waste water, so these waste materials must be treated quickly. If we use speedy dryer, these sea waste can be changed to useful feed and liquid composts. Also this study relates to a method for drying a variety of untreated waste materials in a hermetically sealed state, and subsequently carbonizing the dried waste materials under a reduced pressure, thereby achieving a more stable and economical treatment for the waste materials, and an apparatus for performing the method. This effects of preventing generation of contaminants and environmental pollution while reducing fuel costs, and a carbide, obtained via the drying and carbonization of the waste material, are available into feed for poultry. The condensate water can be used to deodorants.

  • The predictability of KAERI version of RELAP5/MOD3 on reflood peak cladding temperature during large break loss-of-coolant accident is assessed against 18 test runs in FLECHT SEASET test data. The associated uncertainty is statistically quantified. The selected test runs include a gravity feed test and several forced feed tests with wide range of the parameters such as flooding rate, system pressure, initial clad temperature, rod bundle power. The results show that the code under-predicts the peak cladding temperature by 7.56 K on average. The upper limit of the associated uncertainty at 95% confidence level is evaluated to be about 99 K, It including the bias due to the under-prediction.

  • Strontium Titanate single crystal is grown by Verneuil method. Feed materials were prepared by coprecipitation method which started with Sr(NO3)2 and TiCl4. SrTiO3 can not be grown from feed materials having the stoichiometric components due to volatilization of SrO, when the powder added more 3 wt% SrO used, the crystal can be grown. Growth conditions that the pressure of oxygen and hydrogen gas was 5 psi, the flow rate of oxygen and hydrogen was 7.3 and 30ι/min respectively, the growth rate was 20 mm/hr were optimum. The grown single crystal has the diameter of 10~15 mm and its length is 30~40 mm. The grown crystal was deep brown color and somewhat transparent. The color of grown crystal was lightened after annealing.

  • In this study, poly (L-lactic acid) (PLLA) microparticles containing gemcitabine hydrochloride were prepared by a supercritical fluid process, called aerosol solvent extraction system (ASES), utilizing supercritical carbon dioxide as antisolvent. The influence of process parameters such as temperature, pressure, $CO_2$ and solution flow rate, solution concentration, and feed ratio of drug to polymer on the morphology and characteristics of the microparticles was studied in detail. The gemcitabine-loaded microparticles exhibited a spherical shape with a smooth surface. The entrapment efficiency of gemcitabine increased with increasing temperature, solution concentration and $CO_2$ flow rate and with decreasing drug/polymer feed ratio. The maximum drug loading obtained from the ASES process was found to be about 11%. The ASES-processed PLLA microparticles containing gemcitabine showed a relatively high initial burst due to the presence of surface pores on the microparticles and the poor affinity between drug and polymer.

  • According to the results for the thermodynamic stability of feed-stuff dust, there are little change of initiation temperature of heat generation and heating value for used particle size. But initiation temperature of heat generation decreased with high heating rate whereas decomposition heat increased with particle size. Using the supporting gas, O2, initiation temperature of heat generation decreased remarkably than using the inert gas, N2, and heating value increased as twenty times under the same condition. When the ignition energy is given from the outside, used fine particle which can float in the air easily reacted tremendously with oxygen. Average maximum explosion pressure was 6.88 Kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for 80/100 mesh.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the effect of calcium levels(50, 100 and 200% of requirement) on metabolism of Ca, Na and K in Young and adult female rats for 3 weeks. There was no significant difference in feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency ratio among the groups of different Ca intake level. Serum Na level of high-Ca group was significantly lower than that of low-Ca or normal-Ca group in Young rats. There was no significant difference in liver Ca and K contents among the groups of different Ca intake levels. But, Na content in liver was decreased by the increase of dietary Ca intake. Ca content in kidney of high-Ca group in young rats and normal-Ca group in adult rats were significantly higher than those of other groups. Na content in kidney of low-Ca group was lower than those of normal-Ca and high-Ca groups. Urinary excretions of Na and K and fecal excretion of Ca were increased by the increase of dietary Ca intake. But, fecal excretions of Na and K were not affected by dietary Ca intake. According to this study, it was found that the high Ca consumption promotes excretions of fecal Ca and urinary Na and K in rats. The study verifies the need for more study on the interrelationship among Ca, Na and K metabolism and bood pressure.

  • SiO2 doped sapphire single crystals were grown by Verneuil method using feed material which prepared by adding SiO2 in Al2O3. Crystal growing were attempted with varing doping amount of SiO2 from 0.01 to 1.0 wt% and when the doping amount of SiO2 were 0.01~0.04 wt%, single crystals could be attained. Starting materials for feed powder were 99.99% purity alumina and extra pure SiO2 powder. Mixing these two materials by wet milling for 24 hours and drying the mixture and then was calcined at 900~110$0^{\circ}C$ for 2~4 hours. The grown crystals had yellowish color and were somewhat transparent. During growing process the flow range of oxygen was 5~7.5ι/min and of hydrogen was 13~25ι/min, the average growth rate was 7.0~11 mm/hr. The pressure of gases were fixed at 5psi. The color of crystal was appeared and mechanical property of sapphire was developed by doping of SiO2.
