  • Muilti-dimensional feature vector matching algorithm uses multiple features such as intensity, gradient, variance, first or second derivative of a pixel to find correspondence pixels in stereo images. In this paper, we proposed a new method for adjusting automatically the weight of feature in multi-dimensional feature vector matching considering sharpeness of a pixel in feature vector distance curve. The sharpeness consists of minimum and maximum vector distances of a small window mask. In the experiment we used IKONOS satellite stereo imagery and obtained accurate matching results comparable to the manual weight-adjusting method.

  • A global path planning method using self-organizing feature map which is a method among a number of neural network is presented. The self-organizing feature map uses a randomized small valued initial weight vectors, selects the neuron whose weight vector best matches input as the winning neuron, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are moved toward the input vector On the other hand, the modified method in this research uses a predetermined initial weight vectors of 1-dimensional string and 2-dimensional mesh, gives the systematic input vector whose position best matches obstacles, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are moved toward the input vector. According to simulation results one can conclude that the modified neural network is useful tool for the global path planning problem of a mobile robot.

  • Autonomous mobile robot has an ability to navigate using both map in known environment and sensors for detecting obstacles in unknown environment. In general, autonomous mobile robot navigates by global path planning on the basis of already made map and local path planning on the basis of various kinds of sensors to avoid abrupt obstacles. This paper provides a global path planning method using self-organizing feature map which is a method among a number of neural network. The self-organizing feature map uses a randomized small valued initial weight vectors, selects the neuron whose weight vector best matches input as the winning neuron, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward the input vector. • Lazy loaming methods including CBR have relative advantages in comparison with eager loaming methods such as artificial neural networks and decision trees. However, they are very sensitive to irrelevant features. In other words, when there are irrelevant features, larry learning methods have difficulty in comparing cases. Therefore, their performance can be degraded significantly. To overcome this disadvantage, feature weighting methods for lazy loaming methods have been studied. Most of the existing researches, however, were focused on global feature weighting. In this research, we propose a new local feature weighting method, which we shall call CBDFW. CBDFW stores classification performance of randomly generated feature weight vectors. Then, given a new query case, CBDFW retrieves the successful feature weight vectors and designs a feature weight vector fur the query case. In the test on credit evaluation domain, CBDFW showed better classification accuracy when compared to the results of previous researches.

  • Image classification needs the spectral similarity comparison between spectral features of each pixel and the representative spectral features of each class. The spectral similarity is obtained by computing the spectral feature vector distance between the pixel and the class. Each spectral feature contributes differently in the image classification depending on the class separability of the spectral feature, which is computed using a suitable vector distance measure such as the Bhattacharyya distance. We propose a method to determine the weight value of each spectral feature in the computation of feature vector distance for the similarity measurement. The weight value is determined by the ratio between each feature separability value to the total separability values of all the spectral features. We created ten spectral features consisting of seven bands of Landsat-8 OLI image and three indices, NDVI, NDWI and NDBI. For three experimental test sites, we obtained the overall accuracies between 95.0% and 97.5% and the kappa coefficients between 90.43% and 94.47%.

  • Web information service needs a document classification system for efficient management and conveniently searches. Existing document classification systems have a problem of low accuracy in classification, if a few number of feature words is selected in documents or if the number of documents that belong to a specific category is excessively large. To solve this problem, we propose a document classification system using 'Modified ECCD' feature selection method and 'Category Weight for each Document'. Experimental results show that the 'Modified ECCD' feature selection method has higher accuracy in classification than ${\chi}^2$ and the ECCD method. Moreover, combining the 'Category Weight for each Document' feature value and 'Modified ECCD' feature selection method results better accuracy in classification.

  • To employ NMF to transcribe music by extracting feature matrix and weight matrix at the same time, it is necessary to know in advance the dimension of the feature matrix, and to determine the pitch of each extracted feature vector. Another drawback of this approach is that it becomes more difficult to accurately extract the feature matrix as the number of pitches included in the target music increases. In this study, we prepare a feature matrix database, and apply the matrix to transcribe real music. Transcription experiments are conducted by applying the feature matrix to the music played on the same piano on which the feature matrix is extracted, as well as on the music played on another piano. These results are also compared to those of another experiment where the feature matrix and weight matrix are extracted simultaneously, without making use of the database. We could observe that the proposed method outperform the method in which the two matrices are extracted at the same time.

  • A new algorithm for tracking feature points in an image sequence is presented. Most existing feature tracking algorithms often produce false trajectories, because the matching measures do not precisely reflect motion characteristics. In this paper, three attributes including spatial coordinate, motion direction and motion magnitude are used to calculate the feature point correspondence. The trajectories of feature points are determined by calculation the matching measure, which is defined as the minimum weighted Euclidean distance between two feature points. The weights of the attributes are updated reflecting the motion characteristics, so that the robust tracking of feature points is achieved. The proposed algorithm can find the trajectories correctly which has been shown by experimental results.

  • This paper provides a comparison of global path planning method in single string by using pulled and pushed SOFM (Self-Organizing Feature Map) which is a method among a number of neural network. The self-organizing feature map uses a randomized small valued initial-weight-vectors, selects the neuron whose weight vector best matches input as the winning neuron, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward the input vector. On the other hand, the modified SOFM method in this research uses a predetermined initial weight vectors of the one dimensional string, gives the systematic input vector whose position best matches obstacles, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward or reverse the input vector, by rising a pulled- or a pushed-SOFM. According to simulation results one can conclude that the modified neural networks in single string are useful tool for the global path planning problem of a mobile robot. In comparison of the number of iteration for converging to the solution the pushed-SOFM is more useful than the pulled-SOFM in global path planning for mobile robot.
