The addition of a large amount of alloying elements reduces the compactibility and increases the compacting pressure, thereby shortening the life of the compacting die and increasing the process cost of commercial PM steel. In this study, the characteristic changes of Fe-Mo-P, Fe-Mn-P, and Fe-Mo-Mn-P alloys are investigated according to the Si contents to replace the expensive elements, such as Ni. All compacts with different Si contents are fabricated with the same green densities of 7.0 and $7.2g/cm^3$. The transverse rupture strength (TRS) and sintered density are measured using the specimens obtained through the sintering process. The sintered density tends to decrease, whereas the TRS increases as the Si content increases. The TRS of the sintered specimen compacted with $7.2g/cm^3$ is twice as high as that compacted with $7.0g/cm^3$.

The Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles were ball-milled and subsequently compacted and sintered at various temperatures, resulting in the TiC particle-reinforced Fe self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite, and the microstructure and micro-hardness were investigated. The initial Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles showed the spherical shape with a mean size of approximately 80 ${\mu}m$ and the irregular shape of less than 5 ${\mu}m$, respectively. After ball-milling at 800 rpm for 5 h, the powder mixture of Fe-based self-fluxing alloy powders and TiC particles formed into the agglomerated powders with the size of approximately 10 ${\mu}m$ that was composed of the nanosized TiC particles and nano-sized alloy particles. The TiC particle-reinforced Fe-based self-fluxing alloy hybrid composite sintered at 1173 K revealed a much denser microstructure and higher micro-hardness than that sintered at 1073 K and 1273 K.
The magnetic properties of the amorphous $Fe_{73.5-X}Co_{X}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5}B_{9}(x=2,\;4)$ alloys, fabricated by a single roll rapid quenching technique and annealed at $400~650^{\circ}C$, have been investigated. The optimum annealing temperature is $550^{\circ}C$ for the amorphous $Fe_{71.5}Co_{2}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5}B_{9}$ alloy. The properties of the nanocrystalline $Fe_{71.5}Co_{2}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5}B_{9}$ alloy show the relative permeability of $1.1{\times}10^{4}$ and the coercive force of 0.22 Oe at 1 kHz. When annealed at $600^{\circ}C$, the nanocrystalline $Fe_{69.5}Co_{4}Cu_{1}Nb_{3}Si_{13.5)B_{9}$ alloy shows the relative permeability of $1.0{\times}10^{4}$ and the coercive force of 0.19 Oe at 1 kHz. From the X-ray measurement, it is found that the remarkably improved soft magnetic properties are the effect of the formation of $\alpha$-Fe(Si) grain. By the results of FMR exper-imeIlt, the optimum annealing condition is just below temperature which the peak-to-peak line width of FMR spectrum increase rapidly.
The microstructural evolution during mechanical alloying of elemental Fe and Si powders, average composition $Fe_{30}Si_{70}$ and $Fe_{50}Si_{50}$, has been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Mechanical alloying was performed by using a SPEX 8000 Mixer/Mill under argon atmosphere with/without hexane as a process control agent (PCA). In the presence of PCA, the milling process was dominated by fracture resulting in the decrease in particle size to about $1{\mu}m$. The structural development with milling time depended on the average composition of starting powders. The mixture of $Fe_{50}Si_{50}$ and $Fe_{30}Si_{70}$ resulted in the formation of FeSi(${\varepsilon}$ - phase) and $FeSi_2$(${\beta}$ - phase), respectively. In the case of $Fe_{33.3}Si_{66.7}$, a mixture and $FeSi_2({\beta})$ was formed. These results were discussed by considering the thermodynamics and kinetics concerning the milling process.
The effects of Sc and Sr elements on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and the castability were investigated in the Al-4wt%Mg-0.9wt%Si-0.3wt%Mn-0.15wt%Fe alloy. Measurements of the cooling curve and microstructure observations were performed to analyze the additional effects of Sc and Sr minor elements during the solidification process. A prominent effect found on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase with additions of the Sr and Sc elements. Here, a fine eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase and a decrease in the growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase were evident with an addition of Sc element up to 0.2 wt%. The growth temperature of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase decreased and the effect on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase increased with the addition of Sr element up to 0.02 wt%. The addition of 0.02wt%Sr had the strongest effect on the modification of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase, and the resulting microstructure of the eutectic $Mg_2Si$ phase was found to have a fibrous morphology with a decreased aspect ratio and an increased modification ratio. Fluidity and shrinkage tests were conducted to evaluate the castability of the alloy. The addition of 0.02wt%Sr effectively increased the fluidity of the alloy, while an addition of Sc did not show any effect compared to when nothing was added. The maximum filling length was recorded for 0.01wt%TiB-0.02wt%Sr owing to the effect of the fine ${\alpha}$-Al grains. The macro-shrinkage ratio decreased, while the micro-shrinkage ratio increased with the addition of various eutectic modifiers. The highest ratio of micro-shrinkage was recorded for the 0.02wt%Sr condition. However, the total shrinkage ratio was nearly identical regardless of the amounts added in this study.

Effect of isothermal aging on the crystallization of $Fe_{78}B_{13}Si_{9}$ metallic glass has been investigated by electrical resistivity, X-ray measurements, bending test, thermal analysis and transmission electron microscopy. Amorphous $Fe_{78}B_{13}Si_{9}$ alloy was annealed isothermally for 5 to 1200 mon. between 300 C and 540 C. It has been found that close relation between relative resistivity and X-ray diffraction pattern showed. The crystalline peak of $\alpha$-(Fe, Si) and Fe$_2$B are detected by X-ray experiment. The crystalline phases observed by TEM show $\alpha$-(Fe, Si) and Fe$_3$B with dendritic and cylindrical morphology, respectively. It has been also found that the embrittleness of aged samples rapidly increased with the crystallization and was shown before the crystallization.th the crystallization and was shown before the crystallization.

This study focused on examining the possibility for recycling of Fe-Si electric sheet. We manufactured Fe-6.5Si mother alloy using by Fe-Si electric sheet scrap for transformer core materials. And then, soft magnetic alloy powder which diameter and shape were $45{\sim}150{\mu}m$ and sphere type was prepared by gas atomization process. As we compared to commercial Fe-6.5Si powder, its diameter distribution and microstructure of recycled powder was a similar. To investigate the possibility of reusing the soft magnetic composite sheet for electronics, recycled powder was treated to have a high aspect ratio (AR), and we finally obtained the 65~66 AR and $2.3{\mu}m$ thickness powder. To release the residual stress of powder, heat treatment was conducted under $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$, $N_2$ gas. And then, soft magnetic sheet was made by tape casting process using by those powders. After the density and permeability of tape was measured, and we confirmed that the recycled Fe-Si electric sheet scrap was possible to reuse the soft magnetic materials of electronics.

Medium carbon steel was aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al or Al-1%Si baths. After hot-dipping in these baths, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer rich in $Al_5Fe_2$ formed on the surface. A small a mount of FeAl and $Al_3Fe$ was incorporated in the alloy layer. Silicon from the Al-1%Si bath was uniformly distributed throughout the entire coating. The hot dipping increased the microhardness of the steel by about 8 times. Heating at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ however decreased the microhardness through interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate. The oxidation at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ in air formed a thin protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, which provided good oxidation resistance. Silicon was oxidized to amorphous silica, exhibiting a glassy oxide surface.

When the steel containing Si is oxidated in hi temperature, Re2O3, Red scale is made on the metal side as the spike phase, and this scale invasion into matrix. Therefore, it affects the feature, after rolling. It is reported that the role of Si is FeO/Fe2SiO4 eutectic compound, but Si can not affect pure iron independently. There must be Ni, then the spike phase can exist. Prominence and depression made by Ni that is necessity at the process to work iron. Therefore, in this study after the change of the amount of Ni in pure iron and steel and oxidation, the structure of the oxide and the surface, and the distribution of the elements were considered. In conclusion, at 100$0^{\circ}C$, 110$0^{\circ}C$, 120$0^{\circ}C$ the curves of oxidation weight are all S curves. Especially, in the beginning of oxidation as the amount of Ni increase, the amount of oxidation also increase. Practical steel has less oxidation than pure steel added Ni. There is much FeO in Fe-Ni alloy, compare to practical steel which has much Fe3O4. Especially, we could know considerable Ni was concentrated on the metal side in Fe-Ni alloy, practical steel. and the surface of the scale.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of thermo-mechanical treatment on the tensile properties of Fe-20Mn-12Cr-3Ni-3Si alloy with deformation induced martensite transformation. ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}$-martensite, dislocation, stacking fault were formed, and grain size was refined by thermo-mechanical treatment. With the increasing cycle number of thermo-mechanical treatment, volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite, dislocation, stacking fault were increased, and grain size decreased. In 5-cycle number thermo-mechanical treated specimens, more than 10% of the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$-martensite and less than 3% of the volume fraction of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$-martensite were attained. Tensile strength was increased and elongation was decreased with the increasing cycle number of thermo-mechanical treatment. Tensile properties of thermo-mechanical treated alloy with deformation induced martensite transformation was affected to formation of martensite by thermo-mechanical treatment, but was large affected to increasing of dislocation and grain refining.
