In this study, the corrosion characteristics of T22 and T92 steel were investigated in 6O2 + 16CO2 + 2SO2 gas environment at 650 ℃. Corrosion characteristics were characterized by weight gain, oxide layer thickness, scanning electron microscope, optical microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. T22 and T92 steel tended to stagnate oxide layer growth over time. Oxidation kinetics were analyzed using the data of oxide layer thickness, and a regression model was presented. The regression model was significantly acceptable. The corrosion rate between the two steels through the regression model showed significant difference. The T92 steel was approximately twice as large as the time exponent and showed very good corrosion resistance compared to the T22 steel. In both steels, the oxide layer mainly formed a Fe-rich oxide layer composed of hematite (Fe2O3), magnetite (Fe3O4), and spinel (FeCr2O4). Sulfide segregation occurred in the oxide layer due to SO2 gas. However, the locations of segregation for the T22 and T92 steel were different.
In order to verify to what extent the rancidity of the soybean oil is occurred and how the various metal ions effect on the rancidity-as a result of applying heat to the soybean oil-the followings are obtained through experiments : 1. From analyzing the refractive index of soybean oil, The results are: the specific gravity-0.925 refractive index-1.475, saponification value-190, acetyl value-5.0, iodine value-120, peroxide value-5.0. 2. The degree of expediting rancidity take the following order : $Cu^{++}$/$Fe^{++}$/$Cr^{++}$/$Zn^{++}$/$Ni^{++}$/$Al^{+++}$. 3. The degree of expediting rancidity of $Cu^{++}$and $Fe^{++}$ is showed the abrubt increase of peroxide value in accordance with the increase of densidity. The most abrubt increase of peroxide show when the duration of heating reaches to the range between 20 minutes and 30 minutes. After heating for 60 minutes no definite variation is showed. 4. The degree of rancidity in heating the soybean oil added $Cu^{++}$, Fe and BHA shows the decrease of peroxide value by 2, 3 after adding $Cu^{++}$0.5 ppm. and heating for 30 minutes. As the result of measuring the value of peroxide after adding $Cu^{++}$ by 1.0 ppm and BHA by 0.01% and heating, peroxide shows the decrease by 7.8 when adding anti-oxidant. $Fe^{++}$ as well as $Cu^{++}$ shows that BHA prevents the metal ions from the expedition of rancidity.
Selective vapor deposition of conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), thin films has been carried out on self assembled monolayers patterned oxide substrate. Since the 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene(EDOT) monomer can be polymerized only in the presence of oxidant such as $FeCl_3$, the PEDOT thin film is selectively deposited on patterned $FeCl_3$, which only adsorbs on the partly removed SAMs region due to the inability of $FeCl_3$ to adsorb on SAMs. Therefore, the partly removed SAMs can act as an adsorption layer for the $FeCl_3$ and also as a glue layer for the deposition of PEDOT, resulting in the significantly increased adhesion of PEDOT to $SiO_2$ substrate. The use of UV lithography and Cr patterned quartz mask provided the formation of SAMs patterns on oxide substrates, which allowed for the selective deposition of conductive PEDOT thin films.$^{oo}The$ new process was successfully developed for the selective deposition of PEDOT thin films on SAMs patterned oxide substrate, providing a new way for the patterning of vapor phase deposition of PEDOT thin films with accurate alignment and addressing the inherent adhesion issues between PEDOT and dielectrics.
In this study, the microstructure and characterization of an overlay welding layer using Fe-based composite powders are reported. The effects of the number of passes and composition of powders on the microstructure and mechanical properties are investigated in detail. The welding wire and powders are deposited twice on a stainless-steel rod using a laser overlay welding process. The microstructure and structural characterization are performed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The mechanical properties of the first and second overlay layers are analyzed through the micro-Vickers-hardness tester and abrasion wear tester. In the second overlay layer, the hardness and specific wear are approximately 840 Hv and $2.0{\times}10^{-5}mm^3/Nm$, respectively. It is suggested that the increase of the volume fractions of $(Cr,Fe)_7C_3$ and NbC phases in the second welding layer enhances the hardness and wear resistance.

This study was performed to provide fundamental data to establish the new soil pollution standards and the soil contamination management plans in a rational manner. The distribution characteristics of new soil contaminants such as barium (Ba) and chromium (Cr) in soils (n=140) were investigated in relation to land-use classification and geological features. Also, the sequential extraction test was conducted to evaluate fate and mobility of new soil contaminants. The soil samples taken from 140 sites were analyzed to survey distribution levels of selected new soil contaminants. The average concentration and range for hazardous metals (Ba, Cr) were Ba 128.946 (26.757~489.587) mg/kg, Cr 30.121 (2.579~132.783) mg/kg. Based on land use classification, the highest Ba concentration was found in factory soils, followed by dry field and park soils, while Cr concentration was highest in rice paddy soils, followed by dry field and factory soils. Within 10 geological units investigated the highest Ba and Cr concentrations were observed in the soils from Okcheon group and metamorphic rocks, respectively. The BCR (European Community Bureau of Reference) sequential extraction was conducted to identify chemical distributional existence of 2 elements of soils from each geological unit. Ba in soils is mainly assumed to exists as reducible form (such as BaSO4, BaCO3) and Cr in soils mainly is assumed to exist as residual form (such as Cr2O3, CrxFe1-x(OH)3(x < 1)).
[ $LaMeO_3$ ](Me = Cr, Co) powders were prepared using the polymeric precursor method. The effects of the chelating agent and the polymeric additive on the synthesis of the $LaMeO_3$ perovskite were studied. The samples were synthesized using ethylene glycol (EG) as the solvent, acetyl acetone (AcAc) as the chelating agent, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the polymer additive. The thermal decomposition behavior of the precursor powder was characterized using a thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The crystallization and particle sizes of the $LaMeO_3$ powders were investigated via powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and particle size analyzer, respectively. The as-prepared precursor primarily has $LaMeO_3$ at the optimum condition, i.e. for a molar ratio of both metal-source (a : a) : EG (80a : 80a) : AcAc (8a) inclusive of 1 wt% PVP. When the as-prepared precursor was calcined at $700^{\circ}C$, only a single phase was observed to correspond with the orthorhombic structure of $LaCrO_3$ and the rhombohedral structure of $LaCoO_3$. A solid-electrolyte impedance-metric sensor device composed of $Li_{1.5}Al_{0.5}Ti_{1.5}(PO_4)_3$ as a transducer and $LaMeO_3$ as a receptor has been systematically investigated for the detection of NOx in the range of 20 to 250 ppm at $400^{\circ}C$. The sensor responses were able to divide the component between resistance and capacitance. The impedance-metric sensor for the NO showed higher sensitivity compared with $NO_2$. The responses of the impedance-metric sensor device showed dependence on each value of the NOx concentration.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of metal pollution in the sediment from rivers, lakes, and streams in active gold mining districts in Ghana. Two hundred and fifty surface sediment samples from 99 locations were collected and analyzed for concentrations of As, Hg, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, Zn, Pb, Cd, Ni, and Mn using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS). Metal concentrations were then used to assess the human health risks to resident children and adults in central tendency exposure (CTE) and reasonable maximum exposure (RME) scenarios. The concentrations of Pb, Cd, and As were almost twice the threshold values established by the Hong Kong Interim Sediment Quality Guidelines (ISQG). Hg, Cu, and Cr concentrations in sediment were 14, 20, and 26 times higher than the Canadian Freshwater Sediment Guidelines for these elements. Also, the concentrations of Pb, Cu, Cr, and Hg were 3, 11, 12, and 16 times more than the Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC) sediment guideline values. The results of the human health risk assessment indicate that for ingestion of sediment under the central tendency exposure (CTE) scenario, the cancer risks for child and adult residents from exposure to As were $4.18{\times}10^{-6}$ and $1.84{\times}10^{-7}$, respectively. This suggests that up to 4 children out of one million equally exposed children would contract cancer if exposed continuously to As over 70 years (the assumed lifetime). The hazard index for child residents following exposure to Cr(VI) in the RME scenario was 4.2. This is greater than the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) threshold of 1, indicating that adverse health effects to children from exposure to Cr(VI) are possible. This study demonstrates the urgent need to control industrial emissions and the severe heavy metal pollution in gold mining environments.
Using a column of macrorecticular gel beads impregnated with alcohol solution of diphenylcarbarzide (DPC), the enrichment of Cr(Ⅵ) ion in 0.1M sulfuric acid was investigated. The column performance was compared with respect to the types of solid support such as Amberlite XAD and Diaion HP. Diaion HP-20 was found to be most suitable for this purpose. The break through point was increased when increasing the amount of DPC absorbed in the resin and the concentrated sample solution showed higher break through capacity than the dilute one. The extraction of Cr(Ⅵ) was not affected by the presence of 100 ppm Fe(Ⅲ) which amounted to ten times of 10 ppm Cr(Ⅵ) and the presence of other metal ions which amounted to 100 times of 10 ppm Cr(Ⅵ). Because the used gel particles were effectively regenerated with methanol, they were able to be used repeatedly.
Development of a dental Ni-Cr alloy system for porcelain veneering crown and bridge was studied in this research. The principles of alloy design were a) It should not contain toxic beryllium. b) It should have low melting Point. c) It should be easily ground and polished. d) It should possess an adequate strength to resist the deformational force In the mouth. e) It should be bondable Ivith porcelain by chemically. After investigating the effect of minor elements such as boron and rare earth metals on the mechanical properties of the Ni-Cr alloy system, the compromised ideal composition for dental use was determined. The composition was l9.6%, Cr, 5.6% Mo, 3.4% Si, 1, 0% Fe, 0.01% Ti, 0.5-1.0% B, 0.2-0.6% misch metal, balance Ni. To compare the performance of experimental alloy with commercially available alloys, the properties such as strength, melting point, and bond strength were measured. The results Ivere as follows: a) Boron increases the strength of the alloy but reduces the elongation. b) Misch metal increases the strength when the boron content is low, but does not increase the strength when boron content is high. And it reduces the elongation drastically, c) Mechanical strength of the experimental alloy was not superior to commercially available Be containing alloy, but handling performance such as castability, ease of granting and polishing, and cuttability were superior to the Be containing alloy.
This study investigated the effect of solvent on the fabrication of Ni-free Fe-based alloy nano powders by employing the PWE (pulsed wire evaporation) in liquid and compared the alloy particles fabricated by three different methods (PWE in liquid, PWE in Ar, plasma arc discharge), for high temperature oxidation-resistant metallic porous body for high temperature soot filter system. Three different solvents (ethanol, acetone, distilled water) of liquid were adapted in PWE in liquid process, while X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning microscope (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to investigate the characteristics of the Fe-Cr-Al nano powders. The alloy powder synthesized by PWE in ethanol has good particle size and no surface oxidation compared to that of distilled water. Since the Fe-based alloy powders, which were fabricated by PWE in Ar and PAD process, showed surface oxidation by TEM analysis, the PWE in ethanol is the best way to fabricate Fe-based alloy nano powder.
