The sand particle was coated with $Fe_3O_4$ and then $Fe_2O_3$ that adsorption capacity was more excellent than $Fe_3O_4$ was mostly found in 2nd step for preparation of iron-oxide-coated sand (IOCS). The copper removal rate was 74.9 percent by adding 30 gram per liter iron-oxide-coated sand from the solution with 5 mg/l Cu in 20 minute. Breakthrough time occurred in 23 hours and adsorption capacity 0.87$\cdot$Cu/g$\cdot$IOCS in case of breakthrough copper concentration was 1.0 mg/l in the continuous test.

Recently, lithium transition metal phosphates with an ordered olivine-type structure, $LiMPO_4$ (M=Fe, Mn, Ni, and Co), have attracted extensive attention due to a high theoretical specific capacity (170 mAh/g). The $LiMPO_4$ is the most attractive because of its high stability, low cost, high compatibility with environment. However, it is difficult to attain its full capacity because its electronic conductivity is very low, and diffusion of Li-ion in the olivine structure is slow and the supervalue cation doping was used. In this research, we are used the supervalue cation doping methode such as Cu, Ti, and Mg were partially replace the Fe. The cycling performance resulted of the used $LiM_xFe_{1_x}PO_4$ cathode materials for lithium batteries exhibit excellent high capacity than $LiFePO_4$/Li cells.
A new method is proposed for the calculation of the unrelaxed surface energy of spinel ferrite. The surface energy calculation consists of (1) setting the central and computational domains in the semi-infinite real lattice, having a specific surface, and having an infinite real lattice; (2) calculation of the lattice energies produced by the associated portion of each ion in the relative domain; and (3) dividing the difference between the semi-infinite lattice energy and the infinite lattice energy on the exposed surface area in the central domain. The surface energy was found to converge with a slight expansion of the domain in the real lattice. This method is superior to any other so far reported due to its simple concept and reduced computing burden. The unrelaxed surface energies of the (100), (110), and (111) of $ZnFe_2O_4$ and $Fe_3O_4$ were evaluated by using in the semi-infinite real lattices containing only one surface. For the normal spinel $ZnFe_2O_4$, the(100), which consisted of tetrahedral coordinated $Zn^{2+}$ was electrostatically the most stable surface. But, for the inverses pinel $Fe_3O_4$, the(111), which consisted of tetrahedral coordinated $Fe^{3+}$ and octahedral coordinated $Fe^{2+}$ was electrostatically the most stable surface.

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) was used to study the electronic structure of cobalt(II) tetraphenylporphyrin (CoTPP) on the Fe/W(110) substrate. Clover-like conformation of CoTPP was observed and showed bias dependent STM images. The central Co(II) ion of this porphyrin was protruded on the positive biases, but it was depressed on the negative biases. On the positive biases, the phenyl rings of CoTPP appeared to be bright contrary to the invisible pyrrole rings. These results were compared the first-principles calculations using GGA and GGA+U to elucidate the influence of the Fe substrate. GGA+U results agreed well with the experimental results; however, GGA did not. These results show that proper treatment of the on-site Coulomb repulsion of the Fe ions is crucial to describe the electronic structure of this system. By the comparison between the GGA+U calculations on the Fe substrate and the gas phase calculations, it can be noted that chemical potential shift occurred accompanying charge transfer from the Fe ions of the substrate to the pyrrole ligand of the porphyrin.
Electrochemical properties of $LiMn_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}PO_4$ cathode were investigated with gel polymer electrolyte (GPE). To access fast and efficient transport of ions and electrons during the charge/discharge process, a pure and well-crystallized $LiMn_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}PO_4$ cathode material was directly synthesized via spray-pyrolysis method. For high operation voltage, polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based gel polymer electrolyte was then prepared by electrospinning process. The gel polymer electrolyte showed high ionic conductivity of $2.9{\times}10^{-3}S\;cm^{-1}$ at $25^{\circ}C$ and good electrochemical stability. $Li/GEP/LiMn_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}PO_4$ cell delivered a discharge capacity of $159mAh\;g^{-1}$ at 0.1 C rate that was close to the theoretical value ($170mAh\;g^{-1}$). The cell allows stable cycle performance (99.3% capacity retention) with discharge capacity of $133.5mAh\;g^{-1}$ for over 300 cycles at 1 C rate and exhibits high rate-capability. PAN-based gel polymer is a suitable electrolyte for application in $LiMn_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}PO_4/Li$ batteries with perspective in high energy density and safety.
Na$_2$Si$_2$O$_{5}$ added to the solution affects the hydration of 4CaOㆍAl$_2$O$_3$ㆍFe$_2$O$_3$ with calcium sulfate. The reaction between 4CaOㆍAl$_2$O$_3$ Fe$_2$O$_3$and CaSO$_4$ㆍ 2$H_2O$ decrease with increasing amount of Na$_2$Si$_2$O$_{5}$ in solution, owing to low hydraulic reactivity of 4CaOㆍAl$_2$O$_3$ㆍFe$_2$O$_3$by the adsorption of silicate ions on the surface of 4CaOㆍAl$_2$O$_3$ㆍ Fe$_2$O$_3$ particles. The dissolution rate of 4CaOㆍAl$_2$O$_3$ㆍ Fe$_2$O$_3$ particles deceased with the increase of the concentration of silicate ion in solution. When the 4CaOㆍAl$_2$O$_3$ㆍFe$_2$O$_3$ particles was hydrated in gypsum - Na$_2$Si$_2$O$_{5}$ solution, the hydration was retarded and the rate could not discriminate between formation of ettringite and that of monosulfate, and it stopped in high concentration of silicate ions. However, silicate ion did not any effect on the dissolution rate of gypsum.ypsum.
The present study investigated the stimulatory effects of iron (or ascorbate) on cyclosporine-induced kidney mitochondrial damage. Damaging effect of $50\;{\mu}M$ cyclosporine plus $20\;{\mu}M\;Fe^{2+}$ on mitochondrial lipids and proteins of rat kidney and hyaluronic acid was greater than the summation of oxidizing action of each compound alone, except sulfhydryl oxidation. Cyclosporine and $100\;{\mu}M$ ascorbate showed an enhanced damaging effect on lipids but not on proteins. The peroxidative action of cyclosporine on lipids was enhanced with increasing concentrations of $Fe^{2+}.$ Ferric ion $(20\;{\mu}M)$ also interacted with cyclosporine to stimulate lipid peroxidation. Damaging action of cyclosporine on mitochondrial lipids was enhanced by ascorbate $(100\;{\mu}M\;and\;1\;mM)$. Iron chelators, DTPA and EDTA, attenuated carbonyl formation induced by cyclosporine plus ascorbate. Cyclosporine $(100\;{\mu}M)$ and $50\;{\mu}M\;Fe^{2+}$$(or\;100\;{\mu}M\;ascorbate)$ synergistically stimulated degradation of $2-{\alpha}$ deoxyribose. Cyclosporine $(1\;to\;100\;{\mu}M)$ reduced ferric ion in a dose dependent manner, which is much less than ascorbate action. Addition of $Fe^{2+}$ caused a change in absorbance spectrum of cyclosporine in $230{\sim}350$ nm of wavelengths. The results show that cyclosporine plus iron (or ascorbate) exerts an enhanced damaging effect on kidney mitochondria. Iron and ascorbate appear to promote the nephrotoxicity induced by cyclosporine.

The aim of this research was to investigate the ability of nanofiltration (NF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes as a filtration unit for groundwater treatment for drinking water resources. Commercial membranes denoted as TS40, TFC-SR3 and GHSP were used to study the performance based on rejections and fluxes. The investigation has been conducted using natural groundwater obtained from a deep tube well with initial concentration of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) at 7.15 mg/L and 0.87 mg/L, respectively. Experimental results showed that NF membranes exhibited higher fluxes than UF membrane with pure water permeability at 4.68, 3.99 and $3.15L.m^{-2}.h^{-1}.bar^{-1}$, respectively. For metal rejection, these membranes have performed higher removal on Fe with TS40, TFC-SR3 and GHSP membranes having more than 82%, 92% and 86% respectively. Whereas, removal on Mn only achieved up to 60%, 80% and 30%, for TS40, TFC-SR3 and GHSP membranes respectively. In order to achieve drinking water standard, the membranes were efficient in removing Fe ion at 1 and 2 bar in contrast with Mn ion at 4 and 5 bar. Higher rejection of Fe and Mn were achieved when pH of feed solution was increased to more than 7 as TFC-SR3 membrane was negatively charged in basic solution. This effect could be attributed to the electrostatic effect interaction between membrane material and rejected ions. In conclusion, this study proved that NF membrane especially the TFC-SR3 membrane successfully treated local groundwater sources for public drinking water supply in line with the WHO standard.

In order to investigate effect of metal ion and antioxidant on rancidity of crude rapeseed oil (CRO), $Fe^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Co^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$, $Cr^{2+}$, $Sn^{2+}$, $Mn^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, and antioxidants including BHA, Vitamin C, and Tocopherol were used. The specific gravity and refractive index of CRO were $0.92g/cm^3$ and 1.45, respectively. The chromaticities of light, red, and yellow in CRO were 88.6 and 98.7, respectively. Among various fatty acids, Oleic acid (C18:1) concentration was highest, 62.3% and Linoleic acid (C18:2) concentration was 19.16%. In the case of Linolenic acid (C18:3) and Palmitic acid (C16:0), they were 9.88 and 5.2%, respectively. The concentrations of unsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acid were 92.2 and 7.8%, respectively. The degree of expediting rancidity of CRO was an order of $Fe^{2+}$> $Cu^{2+}$> $Cr^{2+}$> $Zn^{2+}$> $Ni^{2+}$> $Al^{2+}$> $Mn^{2+}$> $Mn^{2+}$> $Sn^{2+}$> $Co^{2+}$> $Li^{2+}$. Especially, when $Cu^{2+}$ and $Fe^{2+}$ was used, the peroxide value concentration was about 4.0 fold higher than non addition of them. The inhibition effect of rancidity of CRO using antioxidant with $Cu^{2+}$ and $Fe^{2+}$ was an order of BHA> Vitamin C> Tocopherol.

The various surface treated conditions of Fe-3.0%Ni-0.7%Cr-1.4%Mn-X steel such as as-received, ion nitriding, DLC coated, DLC coated after nitriding for 3 hrs and 6 hrs were investigated to evaluate the beneficial effect for plastic mold steel. Micro Vickers hardness tester was used to estimate nitriding depth from the hardness profile and to measure hardness on the surface. Elastic modulus and residual stress were measured by a nanoindentator. Scratch test and SP (small ball punch test) were utilized to assess the adhesive strength of DLC coating. The depth of nitriding layer was measured as $50{\mu}m$ for the condition of 3 hrs nitriding and $90{\mu}m$ for that of 6 hrs nitriding. Hardness, elastic modulus, residual stress of DLC coating were 20.37 GPa, 162.78 GPa and -1456 MPa respectively. Residual stress on the surface of DLC coating after nitriding could increase to -3914 MPa by introducing nitriding before DLC coating. During the 'Ball-On-Disc' test ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles pulled out from the surface of nitrized layer tend to enhance abrasive wear mode since the fraction of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ (Fe4N) in ion-nitrized layer is known to increases with nitriding time. Thus the specific wear rate of the nitriding layer increased. Comparing with nitriding the specific wear rate in work piece disc as well as ball decreased prominently in DLC coating due to the remarkable reduction in friction coefficient.
