We have investigated the dependence of the magnetization, anisotropy, coercivity, and Kerr rotation on the Fe concentration in FeCo/Pd multilayer thin films, where the Fe concentration in the FeCo sublayer varied between 0 and 100% with maintaining the same sublayer thickness of $2.5\;{\AA}$ FeCo and $10.5\;{\AA}$A Pd. The maximum saturation magnetization was observed at the Fe concentration of about 48at.% in the FeCo sublayer. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and coercivity of the FeCo/Pd multilayer thin film decreased monotonically with increasing the Fe con-centration. The Kerr rotation angle also decreased with increasing the Fe concentration and the amount of vari-ation was remarkably changed with decreasing the light wavelength.
Three nano-sized Fe-N particle samples synthesized by Chemical Vapor Condensation (CVC) were analyzed using $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy, XRD and BET. The synthesized nanoparticles consisted of ${\epsilon}-Fe_{2.12}N,\;{\gamma}'-Fe_4N,\;{\alpha}-Fe\;and\;{\gamma}-Fe.\;{\gamma}'-Fe_4N$ was mainly formed at the low decomposition temperature. With increasing decomposition temperature, the phase was changed to ${\gamma}-Fe$ via ${\epsilon}-Fe_{2.12}N$. For synthesizing Fe-N phases, this study implies that the low decomposition temperature is better than high temperature during Chemical Vapor Condensation.
$Fe_xTi_{l-x}O_2$ films (x=0.07 and 0.16) were grown by oxygen-plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy on rutile $TiO_2$(110). The same growth conditions were applied for both films in order to determine surface characteristics of grown films as a function of Fe composition. The films were characterized by several surface analysis techniques. The oxidation states of Ti and Fe in $Fe_xTi_{l-x}O_2$ films were found to be +4 and a mixture of +2 and +3, respectively. More $Fe^{3+}$ species exist in higher Fe doped film of $Fe_{0.16}Ti_{0.84}O_2$. The morphology of $Fe_{0.07}Ti_{0.93}O_2$ film shows tall rectangular and cylinderical islands growth on flat substrate-like surface. On the other hand, $Fe_{0.16}Ti_{0.84}O_2$ film consists of round shaped small islands showing somewhat rougher surface compared to the surface of $Fe_{0.16}Ti_{0.84}O_2$ film.
The effects of$ Fe_2O_3$ aggregation on the sintering of Ba-ferrite (BaFe$_{12}O_{19}$) were studied. $BaCO_3-Fe_2O_3$ mixtures were prepared by partial precipitation mixing and ball-mill mixing method using two different $Fe_2O_3 $powders. Techniques employed were TG, XRD and SEM. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the over all reaction basically consists of the two consecutive reaction; $BaCO_3 + 6Fe_2O_3\;{\longrightarrow}\;BaFe_2O_3 + 5Fe_2O_3 + CO_2{\uparrow}\;BaFe_2O_4 + 5Fe_2O_3 \;{\longrightarrow}\;BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ It is also shown that the aggregation state of $Fe_2O_3$ raw materials, as well as the mixing method, has a remarkable effect on solid state reaction between $BaCO_3\;and\;Fe_2O_3$.
Iron-loaded activated carbon fibers (Fe-ACF) supported titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) photocatalyst (Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$) was synthesized using a sol-gel method. Three different types of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ were obtained by treatment with different precursor of Fe, and characterized using BET, SEM, XRD and EDX analysis. The photocatalytic activity of Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ was investigated by the degradation of Rhodamine B (Rh.B) solution under UV irradiation. From the experimental results, it was revealed that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites show considerable photocatalytic ability for the removal of Rh.B by comparing non-treated ACF/$TiO_2$ composites. And photo-Fenton reaction with Fe element was incoordinately influenced due to different precursor of Fe. It clearly indicates that Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites prepared using $FeCl_3$ provided the highest photo-Fenton activity, then, which was affected by pH changes on the degradation of Rh.B.

Employing the LMTO band method, we have studied electronic and magnetic properties of Fe/Si/Fe trilayer in which the z-direction is chosen to be (111) direction of FeSi with B2 phase, We have also determined electronic structure of bulk FeSi, as a reference material. The ground state of FeSi is paramagnetic insulator with a band gap of 0.05 eV. Band structures of Fe/Si/Fe with varying the thickness of the spacer layer reveal that the spacer layer is metallic, and the states along the growth direction do not disperse much reflecting a two-dimensional nature. Magnetic moment of Fe atom in the interfacial layer of Fe/Si/Fe is reduced a lot as compared to the bulk value, suggesting a strong hybridization between Fe and Si states. The geometry of the Fermi surface indicates that the magnetic coupling period of ~8ML (monolayers) in Fe/Si/Fe is explained with a short Fermi wave vector of bcc Si.
Iron (Fe) is an essential metal in biological processes, which maintains a homeostasis in the human body. Divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) has been known as an iron transporting membrane protein, which is involved in the uptake Fe at the apical portion of intestinal epithelium, and may transport Fe across the membrane of acidified endosome in peripheral tissues. In this study, we studied the tissue distribution of DMT1 in the Fe supplemented (FeS) diet fed rats, and the regulation of DMT1 expression by depleting body Fe. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two groups, and fed FeS (120 mg Fe/kg) diet or Fe deficient (FeD, 2∼6 mg Fe/kg) diet for 4 weeks. The evaluation of body Fe status was monitored by measuring sFe, UIBC and tissue Fe concentration. Additionally, DMT1 mRNA levels were analyzed in the peripheral tissues by using the quantitative real time RT-PCR method. In the FeS diet fed rats, the tissue Fe was maintained at a relatively high level, and DMT1 was eventually expressed in all tissues studied. DMT1 was highly expressed in the testis, kidney and spleen, while a moderate levels of DMT1 expression was detected in the brain, liver and heart. In the digestive system, the highest level of DMT1 was found in the duodenum. Feeding the FeD diet caused a reduced body weight gain and depletion of body Fe with finding of decreased sFe, increased UIBC and decreased tissue Fe concentration. The depletion of body Fe upregulated DMT1 expression in the peripheral tissue. The expression of DMT1 was very sensitive to the body Fe depletion in the small intestine, especially in the duodenum, showing dramatically higher levels in the FeD rats than those of the FeS group. In the FeD diet fed animals, the expression of DMT1 was low significantly in other tissues compared with the duodenum. The expression of DMT1, however, was 60∼120% higher in the testis, kidney and spleen, and 30∼50% higher in the lung, liver and heart, compared to the FeS diet fed rats. In summary, DMT1 expression was ubiquitous in mammalian tissue, and the level of expression was the organ-dependent. The expression of DMT1 in peripheral tissues was upregulated by depletion of body Fe. Duodenum was the most sensitive tissue among organs studied during Fe depletion, and expressed the greatest level of DMT1, while other tissues were less higher than in duodenum. This study supports that DMT1 plays a role in maintaining the body Fe level through intestinal uptake as well as homeostasis of Fe in the peripheral tissue.
Laves phases of $NdFe_2$, $Nd{(Fe_{0.5})}_2$, $SmCo_2$ and $Sm{(Fe_{0.5}Co_{0.5})}_2$ stoichiometry were prepared using a rapid solidification technology. Low temperature magnetic properties show ferromagnetic behaviors for the $Nd{(Fe_{0.5}Co_{0.5})}_2$, $SmCo_2$ and $Sm{(Fe_{0.5}Co_{0.5})}_2$Nd(Feo,Coo,) Laves compounds while a sort of spin reorientation has been suggested for the supposed composition of $NdFe_2$ alloy. This rapidly solidified $NdFe_2$ alloy is believed to consist of metastable rhombohedral $NdFe_7$ phase plus fine particles of Nd-rich phase. Some evidence of phase transition from the mixture of unstable $NdFe_7$ compound plus Nd-rich to $Nd_2Fe_{17}$ plus Fe-Nd-O phase was obtained after annealing the $NdFe_2$, alloy. The pseudo-binary Laves compound, $Sm{(Fe_{0.5}Co_{0.5})}_2$ exhibits a high coercivityof 4 kOe at room temperature with Curie temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ while the $Nd{(Fe_{0.5}Co_{0.5})}_2$ compound shows a magnetic moment of $2.8\;{\mu}_B/f.u.$.
Top synthetic spin valves with structure Ta/NiFe/CoFe/Cu/CoFe(P1)/Ru/CoFe(P2)/FeMn/Ta on Si(100) substrate with natural oxide were prepared by dc magnetron sputtering system, and investigated on the magnetoresistance properties and effective exchange bias field. As the thickness of FeMn increased above 150 $\AA$, MR ratio was decreased due to the current shunting effect. As the thickness of free layer decreased below 40$\AA$, MR ratio was reduced rapidly. In case of 40 $\AA$ thick of free layer, spin valve film with a structure Si(100)/Ta(50 $\AA$)/NiFe(27 $\AA$)/CoFe(13 $\AA$)/Cu(26 $\AA$)/CoFe(30 $\AA$)/Ru(7 $\AA$)/CoFe(15 $\AA$)/FeMn(100 $\AA$)/Ta(50 $\AA$) exhibited maximum MR ratio of 7.5 % and an effective exchange bias field of 600 Oe, respectively. Thickness difference dependence in this synthetic spin valve structure on effective exchange field was investigated and interpreted by the analytical method. It should be noted that thickness increase of CoFe(P 1) and decrease of CoFe(P2) in synthetic antiferromagnet leaded to the decrease in effective exchange bias field by experimentally and analytically.
