This paper presents the performance analysis results of a short line fault interruption of a gas circuit breaker, particularly a self-blast type breaker. Hot gas flow analysis was carried out using a CFD calculation combined with the arc model and nozzle ablation model. To evaluate the interruption performance, the index function was defined using the pressure in the heating chamber and the density above the arc region. The simulation and test results showed that the gas flow field and suitable choice of an interruption performance index can be used to predict the interruption characteristics and provide guidelines for designing self-blast breakers with a higher interruption capability.

Distance realy is tripped by the line impedance calculated at the relay point. Accordingly the accurate operation depends on the precise calculation of line impedance. Impedance can be accurately calculated in case of overhead line. However, in case of power cables or combined transmission lines, impedance can not be accurately calculated because cable systems have the sheath, grounding resistance, and sheath voltage limiters(SVLs). There are also several grounding systems in cable systems. Therefore, if there is a fault in cable systems, these terms will severely be caused much error to calculation of impedance. Accordingly the proper compensation should be developed for the correct operation of the distance relay. This paper presents the distance calculating algorithm in combined transmission line with power cable using wavelet transform. In order to achieve such purpose, judgement method to discriminate the fault section in both sections was proposed using D1 coefficient summation in db4. And also, error compensation value was proposed for correct calculation of impedance in power cables section.
The line impedance is important data that is applied in all analysis fields of electric power system like power flow, fault current, stability and relay calculation etc. Usually, impedance can be accurately calculated in case of overhead line. However, in case of power cables or combined transmission lines, impedance can not be accurately calculated because cable systems have the sheath, grounding wires, and earth resistance. Therefore, if there is a fault in cable system, these terms will severely be caused much error to calculation of impedance. Therefore, the line impedance were measured for this study in an actual power system of underground cables, and were analyzed by a generalized circuit analysis program EMTP for comparison with the measured value. These analysis result is considered to become foundation of impedance calculation for underground cable.
This paper proposed an analytical model for the distributed magnetic field analysis of interior permanent magnet-type blush-less direct current motors under the stator-turn fault condition using the winding function theory. Stator-turn faults cause significant changes in electric and magnetic characteristic. Therefore, many studies on stator-turn faults have been performed by simulation of the finite element method because of its non-linear characteristic. However, this is difficult to apply to on-line fault detection systems because the processing time of the finite element method is very long. Fault-tolerant control systems require diagnostic methods that have simple processing systems and can produce accurate information. Thus analytical modeling of a stator-turn fault has been performed using the winding function theory, and the distributed magnetic characteristics have been analyzed under the fault condition. The proposed analytical model was verified using the finite element method.
In this paper, we propose the analysis method of the Double Circuit Simultaneous Fault. To improve the accuracy and the promptness of the coontingency analysis, we reformed the Peterson method and extended the Sherman-Morrison equation. We also used the table of trigono -metric factor of Jacobian matrix before the fault, to compute the inverse matrix needed in the loadflow calculation.

Fault location estimation is an important element for rapid recovery of power system when fault occur in transmission line. In order to calculate line impedance, most of fault location algorithm uses by measuring relaying waveform using DFT. So if there is a calculation error due to the influence of phasor by DC offset component, due to large vibration by line impedance computation, abnormal and non-operation of fault locator can be issue. It is very important to implement the robust fault location algorithm that is not affected by DC offset component. This paper describes an enhanced fault location algorithm based on the DC offset elimination filter to minimize the effects of DC offset on a long transmission line. The proposed DC offset elimination filter has not need any erstwhile information. The phase angle delay of the proposed DC offset filter did not occurred and the gain error was not found. The enhanced fault location algorithm uses DFT filter as well as the proposed DC offset filter. The behavior of the proposed fault location algorithm using off-line simulation has been verified by data about several fault conditions generated by the ATP simulation program.

Using neural network approach, the diagnosis of faults in industrial process that requires observing multiple data simultaneously are studied. Two-stage diagnosis is proposed to analyze system faults. By using neural network, the first stage detects the dynamic trend of each normalized date patterns by comparing a proposed pattern. Instead of using neural network, the difference between stored fault pattern and real time data is used for fault diagnosis in the second stage. This method reduces the amount of calculation and saves storing space. Also, we dealt with unknown faults by normalizing the data and calculating the difference between the value of steady state and the data in case of fault. A model of tank reactor is given to verify that the proposed method is useful and effective to noise.
It is expected, in the near future, that the use of distributed generation systems should be increased considerably. In this case, distance relay algorithm should be developed in the manner that it can reduce the error due to the in-feed effect. This paper presents a method to consider the fault current rushed from the remote end of a line. In the steady-state, the relays in both ends exchange the voltages of upper nodes. If a fault is perceived, the relay calculates fault location taking the fault current from the remote end by using voltage data of the remote ends obtained just before the fault. Even though this method has inevitable error, it can show more precise fault allocation. The suggested method is applied to a typical transmission system with two power sources in both ends to verify its effectiveness.

This paper proposes an early diagnosis technique for the stator-turn fault (STF) in an interior permanent magnet (IPM)-type brushless DC (BLDC) motor using the impedance parameter. We have analyzed the varying characteristics owing to the STF through various experiments and the finite element method (FEM). As a result, we have presented a simple method for fault detection. This technique can be applied without requiring a fast Fourier transform (FFT) and the calculation of the negative-sequence impedance. The fault detection system works on the basis of the comparison the measured impedance with the database impedance. The variations in the characteristics owing to the STF as well as the proposed technique have been verified through the simulation and experiment.
