This paper presents a systematic and straightforward fault estimation approach for process fault detection. isolation and accommodation. The approach includes the design of a reduced-order observer and an algebraic-fault estimator. The observer is designed for an unknown input and fault-free system, which is obtained by coordinate transformations of original systems with unknown inputs and faults. The observer information is devoted to- the fault estimation for fault detection and isolation. The fault estimates can be used to form an additional control input to accommodate the fault. The suggested scheme is verified through simulation studies performed on the control of a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft in the vertical plane.
In this paper, we propose a model-based fault diagnosis method applied to vibration data. The fault detection is performed by comparing estimated parameters with normal parameters and deciding if the observed changes can be explained satisfactorily in terms of noise or undermodelling. The key feature of this method is that it accounts for the effects of noise and model mismatch. And we aslo design a classifier for the fault isolation by applying the multiclass SVM (Support Vector Machine) to the estimated parameters. The proposed fault detection and isolation methods are applied to an engine vibration data to show a good performance. The proposed fault detection method is compared with a signal-based fault detection method through a performance analysis.
We consider a double faults detection and isolation problem using modified extended parity space approach for inertial measurement unit which use redundant inertial sensors. A redundant IMU which has a hardware redundant is composed of the cone shape because it is good for fault detection and isolation. We analyze the type of double faults and the reason why fault isolation performance is low. We propose modified extended parity space approach method using EPSA and the difference of sensor data.
A fuzzy inference logic system is proposed for gas turbine engine fault isolation. The gas path measurements used for fault isolation are exhaust gas temperature, low and high rotor speed, and fuel flow. The fuzzy inference logic uses rules developed from a model of performance influence coefficients to isolate engine faults while accounting for uncertainty in gas path measurements. Inputs to the fuzzy inference logic system are measurement deviations of gas path parameters which are transferred directly from the ECM(Engine Control Monitoring) program and outputs are engine module faults. The proposed fuzzy inference logic system is tested using simulated data developed from the ECM trend plot reports and the results show that the proposed fuzzy inference logic system isolates module faults with high accuracy rate in the environment of high level of uncertainty.
In this paper, an $\mathfrak{H}$_/$\mathfrak{H}_{\infty}$ fault detection and isolation (FDI) observer design problem is investigated for discrete-time delayed systems. To that end, a bank consisting of the sensor's number of observers is introduced. Each residual should be sensitive to a certain partial group of faults, but robust against the disturbance as far as possible. We formulate this multiobjective FDI problem as $\mathfrak{H}$_/$\mathfrak{H}_{\infty}$ observers design problem. Sufficient design condition is expressed as iterative linear matrix inequalities. The fault is then detected and isolated by evaluating the residuals through an FDI decision logic. A computer simulation is provided for verification of the proposed technique.
This paper presents a fault diagnosis(detection and isolation) approach for the Ammunition Transport Automation system(ATAS). Due to limited time and information available during its cyclic operation, the on-line fault detection algorithm consists of sequential test logics referring to the normal states, which can be considered as a kind of expert system. If a failure were detected, the off-line isolation algorithm finds the fault location through trained ART2 neural network. By the results of simulations and some on-line field test, it has been shown that the presented approach is effective enough and applicable to related automation systems.
A residual generation scheme that can be employed in the process fault detection and isolation systems for a class of nonlinear (control) systems is suggested. Although the scheme is a kind of observer scheme, the design of the observers employed for residual generation is very simple and the order of the observer is very low. In spite of the simplicity, the residual generation scheme provides the same information for the detection and isolation of the anticipated faults as the conventional multiple observer based schemes. The residuals may be structured so that fault isolation can be performed by pre-selected logic. An FDIS using the residual generation scheme is constructed and evaluated for a nonlinear DC motor system.
A diagnostic rule-base design method for enhancing fault detection and isolation performance of multiple obsever based fault detection isolation schemes (FIDS) is presented. The diagnostic rule-base has a hierarchical framework to perform detection and isolation of faults of interest, and diagnosis of process faults. The decision unit comprises a rule base and a fuzzy inference engine and removes some difficulties of conventional decision unit which includes crisp logic with threshold values. Emphasis is placed on the design and evaluation methods of the diagnostic rult-base. The suggested scheme is applied to the FDIS design for a DC motor driven centrifugal pump system.
A fault detection observer with finite time convergence characteristics(FT_FDO) is proposed and applied to a fault detection isolation system for a dynamic control system. The FT_FDO is a kind of dual state-observer scheme that provides with the state estimates insensitive to a specified fault and the corresponding fault estimate. The state estimates are processed to get the residual that will be logically compared with other residuals to detect and isolate the fault of interest, and the fault estimate may be used for fault compensation. The FDIS employing the FT_FDOs can be considered to be a multiple observer schemes(MOS) in which FT_FDOs are parallelly driven to generate a set of residuals to be compared each other. Due to the finite time convergence characteristics of the FT_FDO, the predetermined detection delay can be considered in the design stage of FDIS so that any fault of interest can be detected and identified in that time. It evidently resolves a well known difficulty of threshold selection owing to the transient responses of the fault detection observers(FDO) employed in FDIS. An FDIS is constructed for instruments(2-sensor, 1-actuator) in an inverted pendulum control system, and simulations are performed to show the performance of the FDIS and fault tolerant control system.
