  • Fatigue behaviour of partially penetrated butt-welded joints in high strength steel plates, in which crack-like structural defect, i.e. lack of penetration(LOP), is inevitably introduced during welding processes, was investigated. Fatigue lives of two types of welded joints, namely X-grooved and K-grooved joints, were experimentally determined first. Observed fatigue crack propagation behaviours of the partially penetrated butt-welds were interpreted through considering 3-dimensional semi-elliptical crack shape in front of the LOP. Based on such interpretation, a fracture mechanical method to estimate stress intensity factors at the crack tip was proposed. Since the fatigue lift of the partially penetrated butt-welds was strongly influenced by the ratio of size of the LOP to thickness, D/t, the D/t was used as a main parameter to calculate the fatigue lift by using the proposed method. Comparison of the fatigue lift obtained experimentally and analytically agreed well with each other. Hence it is suggested that the method used in this work to predict fatigue lift of the partially penetrated butt-welds can be applied to real cases with improved lift-prediction capability.

  • Medical lift column controlling the vertical position while supporting heavy eccentric load should have the high fatigue strength as well as the extremely low structural deflection and vibration in order to maintain the positioning accuracy. The lift column driven by a induction motor is generally in a three-step sliding boom structure and exhibits the time-varying stress distribution according to the up-and-down motion. This study is concerned with the numerical prediction of the fatigue strength of the lift column subject to the time-varying stress caused by the up-and-down motion. The stress variation during a motion cycle is obtained by finite element analysis and the fatigue life is predicted making use of Palmgren-miner's rule and S-N curves. In order to secure the numerical analysis reliability, a 3-D FEM, model in which the detailed lift column structure and the fitting parts are fully considered, is generated and the interfaces between lift column and pads are treated by the contact condition.

  • The fatigue life in wheels was predicted by simulating the experimental method using Finite-Element analysis. Based on a high frequency fatigue property, calculations of the stresses in wheels were performed by simulating the rotating bending fatigue test. Wheels made of an aluminum alloy(A356.2) were tested using a bending fatigue tester. Results from bending fatigue test showed a linear correlation between bending moment and stress amplitude. Consequently, Finite-Element calculations were performed by a linear analysis. In order to find stress-cycles curves, spoke parts of wheel were tested using a rotary bending fatigue tester. Also, highly accurate Finite-Element analysis requires regression lines and confidence intervals from these results. In conclusion, if the fatigue data related to the material and manufacturing procedure are reliable, the prediction on fatigue lift in wheels can be carried out with high accuracy.

  • Recently, a lot of work and interest have been devoted to the development of multiaxial fatigue parameters for fretting fatigue life prediction. In this study, the fretting fatigue lift and critical location ware estimated and evaluated through the multiaxial fatigue theories in a cylinder-on-flat contact configuration far Cr-Mo steel, SCM420, the material commonly is used in gears of the automobile and rollers of the conveyor. The strain-life curve was obtained from fatigue test for SCM420. The Fretting fatigue life and critical location were estimated through stress distributions, SWT-parameters and FS-parameters obtained from FEA. This paper showed possibility of applying multiaxial fatigue theories to fretting fatigue lift prediction comparing predicted life with experimental results.

  • Antifatigue failure technology take an important the part of current industries. Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel and improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore in this paper the effect of compressive residual stress by shot peening on fatigue crack growth characteristics in stress ratio(R=0.1, 0.3, 0.6)was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. There is difference between shot peening specimen and unpeening specimen. Fatigue crack growth rate of shot peening specimen was lower than that of unpeening specimen. Fatigue lift shows more improvement in the shot peening material than in the unpeening material. And compressive residual stress of surface on the shot peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue crack propagation. That is the constrained force about plasticity deformation was strengthened by resultant stress, which resulted from plasticity deformation and compressive residual stress in the process of fatigue crack propagation.

  • One of the two spindles in the X-lift fractured suddenly during normal operation. The fracture occurred at the notch where the bending moment might be the maximum. Macrofractographic features associated with rotating-bending fatigue are evident on the fracture surface. The 3-D finite element analysis of the X-lift reveals that the spindle rotated under bending. The measured surface strain of the spindle varies cyclically as the spindle rotates. It supports that the spindle rotated under bending. The X-lift is not perfectly symmetrical with respect to both the horizontal and the vertical plane. The slightly unsymmetrical deformation can cause the bending of the spindle.

  • In order to improve the fatigue lift of a lower control arm in the vehicle suspension, a new shape optimization procedure is presented. In this approach, the shape control point concept is introduced to reduce the numbers of shape design variables. Also, the two-level orthogonal way is employed to evaluate the design sensitivity of fatigue life with respect to those shape design variables, because the analytical design sensitivity information is not directly supplied from the commercial CAE softwares. In this approach, only the six design variables are used to approximate the shape of lower control arm. Then, performed are only 10 fatigue life analyses including the baseline design, 8 DOE models and the final design. The final design, the best combination obtained from the sensitivity information, can maximize the fatigue lift nearly two times as that of the baseline design, while reducing the 12 percentage of weight than it.

  • It is advantage of accelerated vibration testing to compress service exposures to operating vibration into a reduced laboratory test by increasing the amplitude or frequency of the applied input excitations. This paper proposes an accelerated test method to estimate the high-cycle fatigue life under random excitation. The method consists of conducting a test with amplified input excitation and extrapolating linearly the lift in the accelerated condition into the real lift in field condition. The extrapolation is carried out applying the high-cycle irregular excitation fatigue theory including the rainflow counting, Miner’s damage accumulation rule, and Goodman’s mean stress correction. As a verification, those estimated lift is compared with that acquired by experiment f3r the simple case of spot welding specimen with good agreement. This testing procedure will provide an useful scheme that can reduce testing period associated with developing time schedule of new product.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify correlations between fatigue and quality of lift in clinical nurses. Method: A sample of 294 nurses working in 3 general hospitals answered a questionnaire containing Yoshitake's fatigue scale and WHOQOL-BREF. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficients. The SPSS/WIN 11.0 version program was used. Results: The score for level of fatigue was 2.11 (52.7%) and quality of lift, 2.89 (57.8%). The level of fatigue was highest in the physical domain followed by psychical and nervous-sensual domain in that order. There were statistically significant differences in scores of fatigue depending on the nurse's age, marital status, career, position, health status and present illness. Quality of life had the highest score in the social domain followed by physical, overall, psychological, and environmental domain in that order. There were statistically significant differences in scores on quality of life depending on nurse's age, marital status, career, position, health status and present illness. Conclusion: The relationship between fatigue and quality of lift revealed a significant negative correlation. Based on this study, nursing administrators need to reduce the level of nurse fatigue by providing various programs, which improve quality of life.

  • In these days, almost urban railway vehicle has been serviced under the random load application. But it is very important that fatigue lift prediction fur structures is major factor of safety. So do this, it is required that fatigue assessment method for cumulative damage approach while Korea domestic regulations only has endurance limit approach. With this endurance limit approach, fatigue lift prediction is impossible. In this research, it will be present that fatigue assessment for urban transit structure by using of cumulative damage approach method and related theories.
