The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of TiN coating on the fatigue fracture of dental implant system with various cyclic loads. TiN coated abutment screw, the fixture, and abutment of internal hex type were prepared for fatigue test. The fatigue test was carried out according to ISO 14801:2003(E) using tensile and compression tester with repeated load from 30% to 80% of static fracture force. Morphology and fractured surface was observed by field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope(EDS). The fracture cycle drastically decreased as repeated load increased. Especially, in the case of TiN-coated abutment screw, fracture cycle increased compared to non-coated abutment screw. The fatigue crack was propagated fast as repeated load increased. The plastic deformation region decreased, whereas, cleavage fracture region increased as repeated load increased.
Elimination of the heat treatment process is very important in automation of metal forming since controlling heat treatment by computer has many difficulties and it has bottle neck problem. non-heat-treated steels materials which are not in need of heat treatment have been developed for cold forging. However to apply non-heat-treated steel to structural parts. it is necessary to prove reliability of mechanical properties. In order to define the reliability of mechanical properties we have investigated microstructure, hardness, the tensile strength compressive strength and tensile fatigue strength for both steels. Considering the results of high cycle fatigue test for both specimen the characteristics of non-heat-treated steel are decided on the yield strength, It has same tendency for heat-treated steel. Therefore non-heat-treated steel which has the appropriate yield strength may be applied in cold forging.
Resilient pads play a major role in reducing the impact of loads on a rail in a rail-fastening system, which is essentially used for a concrete track. Although a compression set test is commonly used to measure the durability of a resilient pad, the static spring constant is often observed to be different from the fatigue test. In this study, a modified compression set test method was proposed to monitor the variations in the compression set and static spring constant of a resilient pad with respect to temperature and time. In addition, the life of the resilient pad was predicted by performing an acceleration test based on the Arrhenius equation.
In this study, the microstructural characteristics of a high-speed-extruded Mg-5Bi-3Al (BA53) alloy and its tensile, compressive, and high-cycle fatigue properties are investigated. The BA53 alloy is successfully extruded at a die-exit speed of 16.6 m/min without any hot cracking using a large-scale extruder for mass production. The homogenized BA53 billet has a large grain size of ~900 ㎛ and it contains fine and coarse Mg3Bi2 particles. The extruded BA53 alloy has a fully recrystallized microstructure with an average grain size of 33.8 ㎛ owing to the occurrence of complete dynamic recrystallization during high-speed extrusion. In addition, the extruded BA53 alloy contains numerous fine lath-type Mg3Bi2 particles, which are formed through static precipitation during air cooling after exiting the extrusion die. The extruded BA53 alloy has a high tensile yield strength of 175.1 MPa and ultimate tensile strength of 244.4 MPa, which are mainly attributed to the relative fine grain size and numerous fine particles. The compressive yield strength (93.4 MPa) of the extruded BA53 alloy is lower than its tensile yield strength, resulting in a tension-compression yield asymmetry of 0.53. High-cycle fatigue test results reveal that the extruded BA53 alloy has a fatigue strength of 110 MPa and fatigue cracks initiate at the surface of fatigue test specimens, indicating that the Mg3Bi2 particles do not act as fatigue crack initiation sites. Furthermore, the extruded BA53 alloy exhibits a higher fatigue ratio of 0.45 than other commercial extruded Mg-Al-Zn-based alloys.
Rotatory vertebral artery syndrome (RVAS) is characterized by recurrent attacks of vertigo, nystagmus, and syncope induced by compression of the vertebral artery during head rotation. A 60-year-old man with atlas vertebrae fracture presented recurrent attacks of positional vertigo. Left-beat, upbeat and count clock-wise torsional nystagmus occurred after lying down and bilateral head roll (HR) showing no latency or fatigue. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed foramen magnum stenosis (FMS) and dominancy of right vertebral artery (VA). The flow of the right VA on transcranial Doppler decreased significantly during left HR. The slower the velocity was, the more the nystagmus was aggravated. RVAS can be evoked by FMS causing compression of the VA. And the nystagmus might be aggravated according to the blood flow insufficiency.
Traditionally used analytical approach to predict the fatigue failure of reinforced concrete (RC) structure is generally conservative and has certain limitations. The nonlinear finite element method (FEM) offers less expensive solution for fatigue analysis with sufficient accuracy. However, the conventional implicit dynamic analysis is very expensive for high level computation. Whereas, an explicit dynamic analysis approach offers a computationally operative modelling to predict true responses of a structural element under periodic loading and might be perfectly matched to accomplish long life fatigue computations. Hence, this study simulates the fatigue behaviour of RC beams with finite element (FE) assemblage presenting a simplified explicit dynamic numerical solution to show computer aided fatigue behaviour of RC beam. A commercial FEM package, ABAQUS has been chosen for this complex modelling. The concrete has been modelled as a 8-node solid element providing competent compression hardening and tension stiffening. The steel reinforcements are simulated as two-node truss elements comprising elasto-plastic stress-strain behaviour. All the possible nonlinearities are duly incorporated. Time domain analysis has been adopted through an automatic Newmark-β time incremental technique. The program consists of twelve RC beams to visualize the real behaviour during fatigue process and to obtain the reliability of the study. Both the numerical and experimental results indicate a redistribution of stresses along the time and damage accumulation of beam which severely affect the serviceability and ultimate capacity of RC beam. The output of the FEM analysis demonstrates good match with the experimental consequences which affirm the efficacy of the computer aided model. The controlled fatigue damage evolution at service fatigue load limits makes the FE model an efficient tool in predicting high cycle fatigue behaviour of RC structures.
A strut rubber insulator is used in a suspension component of passenger cars. The uni-axial tension, compression, and the shear test were performed to acquire the constants of the strain energy functions which were Mooney-Rivlin model and Ogden model. The finite element analysis was executed to evaluate the behavior of deformation and stress distribution by using the commercial finite element code MARC ver K6.2. Also, the fatigue tests were carried out to obtain the fatigue life-load curve. The fatigue failure was initiated at the folded position of rubber, which was the same result predicted by the finite element analysis.
The flexible joint with bellows and flange is made by welding bellows and flange in general. The welded parts cause a crack or demage in the flexible joint due to continuous vibration and fatigue limit. This paper is concerned with development of flexible joint with non-welded, free rotation of flange and non-packing to improve fatigue failure condition between bellows and flange. The support box and support plate that are components of press part are designed to compress fore-end of bellows only without demage of bellows. The production system of flexible joint is designed with piston attached on the compression side. The simulation is performed using Deform 3D software. As the result of simulation, the shape of compressed bellows was most proper in the compression power of $157kg{\cdot}f$ and any deformation has not occurred at a part besides fore-end. The result show that the production possibility of the designed flexible joint.

This paper dealt with experimentally the effect of $N_2$ and $H_2$ gas mixtures ratio in the fatigue characteristics of SM45C on Ion-nitrided. The specimen were treated water cooling after Ion-nitriding at $500^{\circ}C$ and 5 torr. in 80% $N_2$and 50% $N_2$gas mixtures ratio in the atmosphere for 3 hrs. The hardness distribution and the depth of nitriding layer shows more increase in 80% $N_2$gas mixture ratio than 50% $N_2$. Ion-nitrided specim- en for 80% $N_2$gas mixture ratio show more increase infatigue strenght in the $>1.5{\times}10^5$ cycles region than 50% $N_2$. In the $<1.5{\times}10^5$cycles region, fatigue failure is due to cracking of the brittle nitrided case, and the propergation of the surface cracks into the core. But in the $>1.5{\times}10^5$cycles region, it is found that cracks propagate from the non-metallic inclusions in the subsurface.

This study was conducted to examine the changes of the mechanical properties of the position in jean slacks during the wear, previously used for the wearing test, which were subjected to repeated tensile-shearing deformation using a simulated fatigue tester has been investigated and compared, by calculating both mechanical properties and hand value(HV) of these fabrics with KES-F system and the by obtaining the THV through these calculated properties. The results are as follows. 1. The fatigue phenomenon of mechanical properties was the LT, 2H B, 2HBS, MMD, SMD, RC values increased, elasticity values of tensile, bending and shearing properties, such as B, G and compression properties LC, WC were reduced. It was shown, then, that those fabrics lost their elasticity and became flexible and soft with the increase of fatigue. 2. The hand value and THV; except anterior knee from all part of KOSHI, NUMERI, FUKURAMI was decreased. 3. The fatigue phenomenon of hand value was different on the position of clothing; on the position of hip, rate of B, G smaller than other parts and KOSHI was decreased, on the part of anterior thigh was FUKURAMI was increased, on the anterior knee RC, NUMERI, THV was increased, on the posterior knee was 2HB, 2HG, 2HGS showed increasedgreater than any other part and on the hem of back, MMD was increased, but NUMERI was decreased. 4. The changing process of mechanical properties in the simulation testing by the fatigue tester has similar tendency to that of the wearing tester. It is concluded that this testing method is useful to predict the fatigue phenomena of fabrics caused by wearing.
