  • The remaining life of ACSR exposed to the atmosphere for a long period may rely on deterioration caused by environmental indices such as atmospheric corrosion, galvanic corrosion, crevice corrosion and fatigue corrosion. One of reduction of useful life in overhead transmission lines built on the ridge of mountain is often caused by forest fires. This paper deals with investigation of strength deterioration performance of ACSR due to fires through several testing and analyzing data for both tension load and material analysis. Test samples are ACSR $480[mm^2]$ conductors, which are artificially fired to regular durations. As a result, it can be verified that tension load of ACSR are reduced by increasing fro duration. Hence, it is obvious that ACSR due to forest fires may lead to mechanical deterioration.

  • Form the application of long rail system the non-ballast steel plate bridges, fatigue strength increase and rail noise reduction can be expected. This is mainly form the reduction of the rail impact at the rail joint locations which already made to behave together from welds. In the high speed rail, application of long rail system is essential because without long rail system, the required serviceability level can not be achieved. But even with this long rail systems, the thermal expansion from the girder can not be absorbed in the normal bearing systems, and these expansion cause between girder and rail. Also unexpected rail buckling and fracture through rail thermal tension may happen. It was found through numerical analysis and field measurement that these problems can be avoided by semi-fixed bearing system. In this study, the benefits of non-ballast plate bridge through long rail system, especially at the point of girder stability, girder stiffness increase and bearing maintenance will be reviewed.

  • Both analytical and experimental studies are presented to investigate the strength of the membrane which is designed by Kogas and will be used as a sealing for a LNG tank. Kogas has already developed the Ring-Knot type membrane, but new type had yet to be developed. This paper reports on the results of investigations into this new type of membrane. Various theorical analyses using FEM and experiments are conducted on the basis of RPIS, and it is found that the RPIS is fully satisfied.

  • Turbine blade is subject to torsional load by torsion-mount, centrifugal load by rotation of rotor and repeated bending load by steam pressure. Turbine with partially cracked blade has normal working condition at initial repair time but vibratory working condition at middle repair time due to crack growth. Finite element analysis on turbine blade indicates that repeated bending load out of all loads is the most important factor on fatigue strength of turbine blade. Therefore, this study shows root mean square roughness has linear relation with stress intensity factor range in 12% Cr steel and can predict loading condition of fractured turbine blade.

  • Railway wheel is the important element of rolling-stock in the viewpoint of running safety. Thus, the material properties of strength, fatigue crack, durability are needed, and the standards for test and criteria of whee] are established to guarantee quality of wheel. In the meantime, the suppliers for wheel in domestic are varied from domestic monopolization to diverse company of China, Russia, Czech Republic, etc. The uniform quality of wheel is important from a maintenance point of view. We collected wheel samples of diverse vendors to analyze the uniformity of wheel on the basis of korea national standard. We tested material properties and analyzed the test data statistically.

  • A seat frame structure in automotive vehicles made of polymer matrix composite to achieve weight reduction at low cost was developed. In order to design and manufacture the actual product, studies on material selection, and structural analyses were performed. Structural analyses were performed with a finite element analysis. Analyses were done for several cases suggested in various safety regulations of FMVSS(Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards). Each result was utilized to modify the actual shape to obtain a lighter, safer and more stable design. The final design was used to produce a sample bottom plate of the seat structure. Substitution of the material resulted in a weight reduction effect with equivalent strength, fatigue and impact characteristics. Furthermore, several effects from the replacement of the material besides weight reduction were also examined.

  • The knowledge of interaction of electromagnetic waves in composite structures is important for designing the shielding structure for antenna such as radome. Recently, radomes are constructed in the form of foam core sandwich structures that have many mechanical advantages such as high strength, long fatigue life, low density and adaptability to the intended function of structure. However, the propagation of electromagnetic waves is affected by high anisotropic permeability and loss tangent of the composite skin. In this study, the analytical model to understand the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the anisotropic composites and foam core sandwich structures with composite skins was proposed. Numerical analyses of unidirectional composites and foam core sandwich structure as a function of incident angle were performed. From the results of analysis, the general tendencies of transmittance of electromagnetic wave through composites and foam core sandwich structure were obtained.

  • Usually the status of a bridge is determined by its structural capability and material strength. Consequently a lot of researchers have studied the failure, the fatigue, and the deterioration of the structure in terms of the structural function of a bridge. However, the overall performance of a bridge may be affected simply by the damage of one of its components. Therefore this study utilized a systematic classification and statistical analysis based on the existing bridge inspection data collected in Taiwan to reach the following goals: (1) assess the performance distribution and deterioration rate for bearing and expansion joint of bridge; (2) find out the right time to do the preventive and essential maintenance for the component of bridge with an empirical method, and to decide what time and which component of a bridge will receive preventive maintenance or regular maintenance.

  • Pipeline steels for hydrogen transmission may cause hydrogen embrittlement due to absorption and diffusion of hydrogen through metals. Hydrogen pipes exhibited similar mechanical properties to atmospheric conditions in terms of tensile and yield strength in a hydrogen atmosphere. This paper aims to provide relevant information regarding hydrogen embrittlement in hydrogen transmission pipeline.
