  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate abdominal muscles in chronic low back pain patients by meridian-electromyograph. Methods : Sample group of 11 with from low back pain during three months and control group of 10 subjects without low back pain have been recruited. Outcomes were assessed using meridian-electromyograph, visual analogue scale, and oswestry disability index. Results : Contraction power of external oblique abdominalis in control group was significantly higher than sample group, but there was no significant difference in muscle fatigue. Conclusions : According to above results, there are correlations between abdominal muscles and low back pain.

  • Surface micro-crack grows along intergranular or transgranular region of crystal grains. But if it meets the barrier such as sessile dislocation and precipitates it loses straightness and deflects. Investigators had many difficulties in estimating fatigue life of smooth specimen because of the random distribution growth and coalescence of surface micro-cracks. The path of surface micro-crack has irregularity due to nonhomogeneous microstructure. Euclidian geometry can't quantify the shape of surface micro-crack but fractal geometry can. Therefore in this paper fractal dimension is measured at various stage of cycle ratio and estimated cycle ratio in 2024-T3 aluminium, alloy.

  • In workplace design, an ergonomic solution should ensure low postural stress in the operator during his/her work. Stress caused by awkward working postures of the trunk, shoulders and legs can result in fatigue, discomfort, musculo-skeletal disorders and nerve entrapment syndromes. Since discomfort and musculo-skeletal disorders are both related to exposure to biomechanical load on the musculo-skeletal system, minimization of discomfort will contribute to reduction of the risk for musculo-skeletal disorders as well. Therefore, in this study, perceived discomfort on the human body joints was measured in the standing postures using the magnitude estimation in order to have a standardized numerical scale for joint discomfort. Nine healthy graduate students participated voluntarily in the laboratory study. The results revealed that perceived discomfort of all the joints increased as the joints deviated from neutral position. Especially, it showed drastic increment on perceived discomfort when deviation from neutral position in each human body joint increased from 75% to 100%. in terms of relative range of motion(R0M). On the basis of these experimental results, a preliminary ranking for assessment of stressfulness of non-neutral postures around the human body joints was suggested.

  • When PCB soldering is performed with microscope due to the electronic components' microminiaturization, workers' awkward upper body postures and difficulties being in focus among lens, object and eyes are one of reasons for productivity decline. The object of this study is to investigate the level of difficulties of work and the extent of productivity improvement by changing work interfaces from the work using microscope to the work using LCD monitor. Independent variables was usage of microscope and image system and dependent variables were upper body segments including neck, shoulder, back, and waist, task convenience and eye fatigue. The Visual Analogue Scale (10cm) was used for questionnaire and one way ANOVA (two levels) and two sample t-test were conducted. In addition, RULA rating was conducted for working postures. The result showed that interface changes of LCD monitor, suggested by productivity comparison per one Man Hour, highly contributed to work convenience and productivity improvement.

  • This study includes the experimental investigation on the fatigue-bond behavior with respect to the various rates of steel corrosion. Major criteria of test variables are the rates of steel corrosion by chloride ion and the ratio of the applied stress to the bond failure stress. According to the test results, the slip versus number of load cycles relation was found to be approximately linear in double logarithmic scale, not only without steel corrosion but also with steel corrosion. This research will be helpful for the realistic durability design and condition assessment of reinforced concrete structures.

  • Perineal pain is a significant diagnostic challenge to the pain practitioner, and accurate diagnosis and treatment is essential. We report a case of 42-years old female patient suffering from excruciating vulvodynia for 5 years. Her pain on the visual analogue scale was 10 out of 10 and her pain was associated with sleep disturbance, dyspareunia, and chronic fatigue. She was diagnosed with a bladder stone by imaging, and The pain was relieved by cystolitholapaxy.

  • In the field of composite structures, the use of carbon tube for the confinement of concrete has been arisen since 1990's. However, experimental and analytical studies were limited to those of reinforced concrete and concrete filled steel tube. The carbon tube provides excellent confinement capabilities for concrete cores, enhancing compressive strength and ductility of concrete significantly. The carbon tube has high tensile strength, light weight, corrosion immunity and high fatigue strength properties. Since carbon fiber is an anisotropic material, carbon tube could be optimized by adjusting the fiber orientation, thickness and the number of different layers. In this study, both experimental and analytical studies of axial and lateral behavior of full-scale CFCT (Concrete Filled Carbon Tube) columns subjected to monotonic axial load were carried out using Drucker-Prager theory. And, based on comparison results between experiment results and analytical results, k factor estimation was proposed for effective analysis.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to report a case of improving various symptoms such as polyarthritis, dyspnea, fatigue, heat sensation. In addition, the promising explanation on the perspective of the heat and cold syndrome could be elicited. Methods Dokhwaljihwang-tang was prescribed for an outpatient for 3 weeks without any other therapy such as acupuncture, moxibustion and Western medicine. To evaluate the results of this treatment, polyarthritis was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). The patient's general condition such as digestion and defecation discomfort is assessed by the progress notes. Results&Conclusions Most of the various symptoms have improved by about 80 percent. It is more important to observe defecation, urine, cold symptoms and condition of hands and feet synthetically.

  • The welding deformation and its prediction method at the HAZ (Heat-Affected Zone) are presented in this paper. The inherent strain method is well known as analytical method to predict welding deformation of large scale welded structure. Depend on the size of welding deformation in welding joints, the fatigue life, the stress concentration factor and the manufacturing quality of welded structure are decided. Many welded joints and its manufacturing control techniques are also required to railway rolling stock and its structural parts such as railway carbody and bogie frame. Proposed methods in this paper focus on the two different the inherent strain area at HAZ. This is main idea of proposed method and it makes more reliable result of welding deformation analysis at the HAZ.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to report on the alleviation of symptoms of a myasthenia gravis (MG) patient after Korean medicine treatment. Methods: A 39 year-old male patient who suffered from MG was examined. The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and pharmacopuncture. The Myasthenia Gravis Composite (MGC) scale and Myasthenia Gravis Activities of Daily Living (MG-ADL) profile were used to assess the change of MG symptoms after Korean medicine treatment. Results: The MGC and MG-ADL scores indicated significant improvement after 14 days of treatment. In addition, the degrees of fatigue, dyspepsia, vomiting, sweating, and dizziness were decreased. Conclusion: This study may suggest that Korean medicine treatment could be effective in treating the symptoms of MG.
