On this study, the fatigue crack propagation of super duplex stainless steel is investigated in conditions of various volume fraction of austenite phase by changing heat treatment temperature. And we analysed acoustic emission signals during the fatigue test by time-frequency analysis methods. As the temperature of heat treatment increased, volume fraction of austenite decreased and coarse grain was obtained. The specimen heat treated at $1200^{\circ}C$ had longer fatigue life and slower rate of crack growth. As a result of time-frequency analyze of acoustic emission signals during fatigue test, main frequency was $200{\sim}300kHz$ having no correlation with heat treatment and crack length, and 500kHz was obtained by dimple and separate of inclusion

The stochastic properties of variation in fatigue crack growth are important in reliability and stability of structures. In this study, the stochastic model for the variation of fatigue crack growth rate was proposed in consideration of nonhomogeneity of materials. For this model, experiments were ocnducted on 7075-T6 aluminum alloy under the constant stress intensity factor range. The variation of fatigue crack growth rate was expressed by random variables Z and r based on the variation of material coefficients C and m in the paris-Erodogan's equation. The distribution of fatigue life with respect to the stress intensity factor range was evaluated by the stochastic Markov chain model based on the Paris-Erdogan's equation. The merit of proposed model is that only a small number of test are required to determine this this function, and fatigue crack growth life is easily predicted at the given stress intensity factor range.

In this study, to investigate the fatigue crack retardation behavior and the variability of retardation cycles, fatigue crack growth tests were conducted on 7075-T6 aluminum alloy under single tensile overload. A retardation coefficient, D was introduced to describe fatigue crack retardation behavior and a random variable, Z to describe the variability of fatigue crack growth. The retardation coefficient was separately formulated according to retardation behavior which is composed of delayed retardation part and retardation part. The random variable, Z was evaluated from experimental data which was obtained from fatigue crack growth tests under constant amplitude load. Using these variables, a probabilistic model was developed on the basis of the modified Forman's equation, and retardation behavior and cycles were predicted under certain overload condition. The predicted retardation curve well agrees with the trend of experimental crack retardation behavior. And this model well predicts the scatter of experimental retardation cycles.

To demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing FCAD chart proposed in our previous work, series of crack growth/arrest behavior in the integrally stiffened panels were simulated by numerical method using upper mentioned FCAD charts and a new crack growth rate equation. It is concluded that proposed family of FCAD curves, in the form of non-dimensional arrest load ranges, are reliable indicators of fatigue crack growth/arrest behavior of integrally stiffened panels considered here.

Prediction of fatigue duration is attainable from the analysis of the growth rate of the fatigue crack, and the property of the fatigue crack growth is determined by the calculation of the stress intensity factor. And the evaluation of the stress intensity factor, K comes from the stress analysis of the vicinity of crack tip of the continuum. This study describes a simple method to decide the stress intensity factor for the small crack at the sharp edge notches. The proposed method is based on the similarities between elastic stress fields of the notch tip described by two parameters, the stress concentration factor K, the radius of arc of the notch. And it is applicable to the analysis of the semi-elliptical penetration cracks and the edge notches.
The main purpose of this study is to derive a law of fatigue crack growth rate in the region of elastic or elasto-plastic fracture mechanics at elevated temperatures through the application of dimensional analysis. An equation of elasto-plastic fatigue crack growth rate at elevated temperatures appeared a new Arrhenius type equation containing J-integral range and absolute temperature. The elastic or elasto-plastic crack growth rate equation shows a fairly good agreement with the experimental results for Cr-Mo-V rotor steel and Hastelloy-X alloy in the comparatively wide temperature ranges.

An elastic-plastic finite element analysis is performed to investigate detailed closure behaviour of fatigue cracks in residual stress fields and the numerical results are compared with experimental results. The finite element analysis performed under plane stress using contact elements can predict fatigue crack closure behaviour. The mesh of constant element size along crack surface can not predict the opening level of fatigue crack. Specially, the mesh of element sizes depending upon the reversed plastic zone size included the effect of crack opening point can precisely predict the opening level. By using the concept of the mesh of element sizes depending upon the reversed plastic zone size included the effect of crack opening point, the opening level of fatigue crack can be determined very well.

The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of welding residual stresses on the fatigue crack growth behavior of cracks located transverse to the weld bead. For this purpose, G. T. A (Gas Tungsten Arc) welding was performed on hte Al alloy 1100-O plate and the same initial crack is made on HAZ(Heat Affected Zone), weld metal and base meta respectively. Specimens were used CT(Compact Tension) specimens. Initial welding residual stresses were measured by using strai gage sectioning method. All specimens were tested under constant amplitude load with stress ratio R=0.1, It is possible to predict fatigue crack growth behaviors and the fatigue life, using numerical analysis together with distribution of initial residual stress and the values of C and m obtained from $da/dN-{\Delta}K$
The effect of loading waveform on elevated temperature low-cycle fatigue crack growth behavior in a SUS 304 stainless steel have been investigated under symmetrical trangular (fast-fast), trapezoidal and asymmetrical(fast-slow, slow-fast) waveforms at 650.deg. C. It was found that the crack growth rate in fast-slow loading waveform appeared to be higher a little and the crack growth rate in slow-fast loading waveform much higer than that in fast-fast loading waveform, and difference in crack growth rate between fast-show and slow-fast waveforms nearly didn't appear in the region of da/dN>10/sup -2/ The crack growth rate in the trapezoidal loading waveform with t/sub h/=500sec appeared to be faster than that in slow(500sec)-fast(1sec). In addition, parameter modified J-integral could be considered as useful parameter for fatigue crack growth rate in all waveforms. The result obtained are as follow. da/dN=4.91*10/sup -3/ (.DELTA. J/sub c/)/sup 0.565/.
The application of fracture mechanics have traditionally concentrated on cracks leaded by tensile stresses, and growing under an opening or mode I mechanism. However, many cases of failures occur from growth of cracks subjected to mixed mode loading. Several criteria have been proposed regarding the crack growth direction under mixed mode loadings. This paper is aimed at prediction of fatigue crack growth behaviour under mixed mode(I+II) in two dimensional branched type precrack. In this paper, the maximum tangential stress(MTS) criterion was used to predict crack growth direction. Not only experiment but also finite element analysis(FEA) was carried out. The theoretical predictions were compared with experimental results in this paper
