The paper investigates a novel detector receiver with Kalman channel information estimator and iterative channel response equalization for MIMO (multi-input multi-output) OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) communication systems in fast multipath fading environments. The performances of the existing linear equalizers (LE) are not good enough over most fast fading multipath channels. The existing adaptive equalizer with decision feedback structure (ADFE) can improve the performance of LE. But error-propagation effect seriously degrades the system performance of the ADFE, especially when operated in fast multipath fading environments. By considering the Kalman channel impulse response estimation for the fast fading multipath channels based on CE-BEM (complex exponential basis expansion) model, the paper proposes the iterative receiver with soft decision feedback equalization (SDFE) structure in the fast multipath fading environments. The proposed SDFE detector receiver combats the error-propagation effect for fast multipath fading channels and outperform the existing LE and ADFE. We demonstrate several simulations to confirm the ability of the proposed iterative receiver over the existing receivers.
A three-terminal hybrid-aligned nematic liquid crystal (3T-HAN LC) cell capable of fast turn-off switching is proposed in this paper. By employing the relaxation process initiated by an electric-field pulse, a fast turn-off time of less than 1 ms can be obtained through optically hidden relaxation. A low operating voltage and high transmittance were confirmed through simulations and experiments.

A fast tool servo (FTS) for diamond turning improves machining accuracy by quickly compensating relative position errors between the cutter and the workpiece. Therefore, the FTS needs to have large band-width with good tracking performance. Serious hysteresis nonlinearity of PZT actuators used in the FTS, however, deteriorates fast tracking performance. Several types of feedforward hysteresis compensators and feedback controllers are tested to improve tracking performance. Through simulations and experiments, control structure which yields the smallest tracking error is selected. The maximum peak to peak error in tracking a sinusoidal waveform is reduced by one fifth compared to that of a regular PID controller.
With the improvement of computer hardware, GPUs(Graphics Processor Units) have tremendous memory bandwidth and computation power. This leads GPUs to use in general purpose computation. Especially, GPU implementation of compute-intensive physics based simulations is actively studied. In the solution of differential equations which are base of physics simulations, tridiagonal matrix systems occur repeatedly by finite-difference approximation. From the point of view of physics based simulations, fast solution of tridiagonal matrix system is important research field. We propose a fast GPU implementation for the solution of tridiagonal matrix systems. In this paper, we implement the cyclic reduction(also known as odd-even reduction) algorithm which is a popular choice for vector processors. We obtained a considerable performance improvement for solving tridiagonal matrix systems over Thomas method and conjugate gradient method. Thomas method is well known as a method for solving tridiagonal matrix systems on CPU and conjugate gradient method has shown good results on GPU. We experimented our proposed method by applying it to heat conduction, advection-diffusion, and shallow water simulations. The results of these simulations have shown a remarkable performance of over 35 frame-per-second on the 1024x1024 grid.
In this study, a nonlinear wave simulation code is developed using a higher-order spectral (HOS) method. The HOS method is very efficient because it can determine the solution of the boundary value problem using fast Fourier transform (FFT) without matrix operation. Based on the HOS order, the vertical velocity of the free surface boundary was estimated and applied to the nonlinear free surface boundary condition. Time integration was carried out using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method, which is known to be stable for nonlinear free-surface problems. Numerical stability against the aliasing effect was guaranteed by using the zero-padding method. In addition to simulating the initial wave field distribution, a nonlinear adjusted region for wave generation and a damping region for wave absorption were introduced for wave generation simulation. To validate the developed simulation code, the adjusted simulation was carried out and its results were compared to the eighth order Stokes theory. Long-time simulations were carried out on the irregular wave field distribution, and nonlinear wave propagation characteristics were observed from the results of the simulations. Nonlinear adjusted and damping regions were introduced to implement a numerical wave tank that successfully generated nonlinear regular waves. According to the variation in the mean wave steepness, irregular wave simulations were carried out in the numerical wave tank. The simulation results indicated an increase in the nonlinear interaction between the wave components, which was numerically verified as the mean wave steepness. The results of this study demonstrate that the HOS method is an accurate and efficient method for predicting the nonlinear interaction between waves, which increases with wave steepness.
The current multihome-aware protocols (like stream control transmission protocol (SCTP) or parallel TCP for concurrent multipath data transfer (CMT) are not designed for high-capacity and large-latency networks; they often have performance problems transferring large data files over shared long-distance wide area networks. It has been shown that SCTP-CMT is more sensitive to receive buffer (rbuf) constraints, and this rbuf-blocking problem causes considerable throughput loss when multiple paths are used simultaneously. In this research paper, we demonstrate the weakness of SCTP-CMT rbuf constraints, and we then identify that rbuf-blocking problem in SCTP multihoming is mostly due to its loss-based nature for detecting network congestion. We present a simulation-based performance comparison of FAST TCP versus SCTP in high-speed networks for solving a number of throughput issues. This work proposes an end-to-end transport layer protocol (i.e., FAST TCP multihoming as a reliable, delaybased, multihome-aware, and selective ACK-based transport protocol), which can transfer data between a multihomed source and destination hosts through multiple paths simultaneously. Through extensive ns-2 simulations, we show that FAST TCP multihoming achieves the desired goals under a variety of network conditions. The experimental results and survey presented in this research also provide an insight on design decisions for the future high-speed multihomed transport layer protocols.
Mobile IP has been designed only to maintain communications as mobile devices move from a place to a place, so it does not guarantee Quality of Service (QoS). Hierarchical MIPv6 improved QoS somewhat using Mobility Anchor Point(MAP), but QoS guarantee problem still remains. QoS in mobile IP is important to provide multimedia and real-timeapplications services in a mobile environment, and QoS is closely related to handoff delay. Therefore, handoff delay problem is actively studied as a main issue in mobile IP research area to guarantee QoS. In this paper, we suggest SNMP Information-based routing that adds keyword management method to Information-based routing in an active network in order to resolve such a problem, Suggested QoS controlled method and existing handoff method, simulations are carried out with NS-2 for performance evaluation. The results of simulations show an improvement on handoff delay, and consequently the QoS improvement.
The thermal transport coefficients-the self-diffusion coefficient, shear viscosity, and thermal conductivity-of liquid argon at 94.4 K and 1 atm are calculated by non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations of a Lennard-Jones potential and compared with those obtained from Green-Kubo relations using equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations and with experimental data. The time-correlation functions-the velocity, pressure, and heat flux auto-correlation functions-of liquid argon obtained from the EMD simulations show well-behaved smooth curves which are not oscillating and decaying fast around 1.5 ps. The calculated self-diffusion coefficient from our NEMD simulation is found to be approximately 40% higher than the experimental result. The Lagrange extrapolated shear viscosity is in good agreement with the experimental result and the asymptotic formula of the calculated shear viscosities seems to be an exponential form rather than the square-root form predicted by other NEMD studies of shear viscosity. The agreement for thermal conductivity between the simulation results (NEMD and EMD) and the experimental result is within statistical error. In conclusion, through our NEMD and EMD simulations, the overall agreement is quite good, which means that the Green-Kubo relations and the NEMD algorithms of thermal transport coefficients for simple liquids are valid.
With the help of newly arrived technology such as PC clustering, molecular dynamics (MD) seems to be promising for large-scale materials simulations. A cost-effective cluster is set up using commodity PCs connected over Ethernet with fast switching devices and free software Linux. Executing MD simulations in the parallel sessions makes it possible to carry out large-scale materials simulations at acceptable computation time and costs. In this study, the MD computer code for fracture simulation is modified to comply with MPI (Message Passing Interface) specification, and runs on the PC cluster in parallel mode flawlessly. It is noted that PC clusters can provide a rather inexpensive high-performance computing environment comparing to supercomputers, if properly arranged.

A FastSLAM is an algorithm for SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) using a Rao-Blackwellized particle filter and its performance is known to degenerate over time due to the loss of particle diversity, mainly caused by the particle depletion problem in the resampling phase. In this paper, the GeSPIR (Geographically Stratified Particle Information-based Resampling) technique is proposed to solve the particle depletion problem. The proposed algorithm consists of the following four steps : the first step involves the grouping of particles divided into K regions, the second obtaining the normal weight of each region, the third specifying the protected areas, and the fourth resampling using regional equalization weight. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm obtains lower RMS errors in both robot and feature positions than the conventional FastSLAM algorithm.
