Rotor Fault Detection System for the Inverter Driven Induction Motor using Current Signals

  • The induction motor rotor fault diagnosis system using current signals, which are measured using an axis-transformation method, is presented in this paper. In inverter-fed motor drives, unlike line-driven motor drives, the stator currents are rich in harmonics; therefore fault diagnosis using stator current is not trivial. The current signals for rotor fault diagnosis need precise and high resolution information, which means the diagnosis system demands additional hardware such as a low pass filter, high resolution ADC, and encoder, etc. The proposed axis-transformation method with encoder and without encoder is expected to contribute to a low cost fault diagnosis system in inverter-fed motor drives without the need for any additional hardware. In order to confirm the validity of the developed algorithms, various experiments for rotor faults are tested and the line current spectrum of each faulty situation using Park transformation is compared with the results obtained from fast Fourier transforms.

  • New Image registration techniques are developed for determining geometric distortions between two images of the same scene. First, the properties of the Fourier transform of a two dimensional function under the affine transformation are given. As a result, techniques for the estimation of the coefficients of the distortion model using the spectral frequency information are developed. Image registration can be achieved by applying the fast Fourier transform (FFT) technique for cross correlation of misregistered imagery to determine spatial distances. The correlation results may be rather broad, making detection of the peak difficult, what can be suppressed by enhancing cross-correlation technique. Yield greatly improves the delectability and high precision of image misregistration.

  • Recently the subject of "wavelet analysis" has be drawn by both mathematical and engineering application fields such as Signal Processing, Compression/Decomposition, Wavelet-Neural Network, Statistics and etc. Even though its similar to Fourier analysis, wavelet is a versatile tool with much mathematical content and great potential for applications. Especially, wavelet transform uses localizable various mother wavelet functions in time-frequency domain. Therefore, wavelet transform has good time-analysis ability for high frequency component, and has good frequency-analysis ability for low frequency component. Using the discriminative ability is more easy method than other conventional techniques. In this paper, Morlet wavelet transform was applied to discriminate the kind of line fault by acquired data from real power transformation network. The experimental result presented that Morlet wavelet transform is easier,and more useful method than the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform).

Spiral motion of the oblate rising bubble (자유 상승하는 편구형 기포의 나선운동)

  • An experimental study of the dynamic characteristics of the free rising oblate spherical bubble is investigated. As noted by Saffman, the characteristics of the spiral motion are defined with parameters of the spiral frequency, spiral radius, and rising velocity. High speed camera recorded every detail information of free rising bubble. The spiral number, the bubble rise velocity, and the angular velocities were measured for the bubble size between 1.0mm to 20.0mm in diameter. In order to make clear trajectory, we employed the Fast Fourier Transformation for the normal digital camera data to synchronize with the high speed camera data. It was found that the spiral number suggested here was monotonically decreased as the bubble size increases. The present observation, however tells us that previous Saffman's formulation shows a good agreement with the trend, but over estimated spiral number. Therefore, it is recommended that Saffman's theoretical study is needed to be improved.

  • 본 논문에서는 시변자계측정을 위한 센서와 형광등의 점등에 의하여 발생되는 자계의 특성에 대하여 기술하였다. 자계측정계는 동축케이블을 사용한 자기적분형 자계센서와 증폭기, 적분기로 구성하였으며 교정실험 결과, 주파수대역은 약 40Hz∼100kHz이었다. 수동점등식, 고주파점등식과 글로우점등식 등 여러 가지 점등방식의 형광등에 의하여 발생되는 자계의 파형을 측정하고, 측정된 자계의 주파수성분을 고속푸리에변환(fast Fourier transformation: FFT)기법으로 해석하였다. 형광등의 점등중에 발생되는 자계성분은 주로 기수고주파 성분이 많이 포함되어 있으며, 인덕션칵에 의하여 점등순간에는 급변성의 과도성분이 나타났다. 전자회로나 제어기기의 보호를 위한 자계차폐장치를 설계할 때에는 반드시 자계의 기수고조파성분을 고려하여야 됨이 확인되었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 생물의 2차원영상에서 4가지의 특징을 추출한 다음 약품에 대한 생물의 행동 패턴 반응에 대하여 의사결정나무를 적용하여 패턴의 인식 및 분류를 하였다. 생물의 행동패턴을 대변하는 물리적인 특징인 속도, 방향전환 각도, 이동거리에 대하여 각각 중간이상속도비율, FFT(Fast Fourier Transformation), 2차원 히스토그램 면적, 프렉탈, 무게중심을 사용하여 특징을 추출하였다. 이렇게 추출된 4가지의 특징변수들을 사용하여 의사결정나무 모델을 구성한 다음 생물의 약품 첨가에 대한 반응을 분석하였다. 또한 결과에서는 기존의 생물의 행동패턴 구분에 쓰였던 전형적인 기법(conventional methods)보다 본 연구에서 적용한 의사결정나무가 생물의 행동패턴이 가지는 물리적 요소에 대한 독해력을 가짐을 보임으로써 특정환경에서 이동행동에 대한 분석을 용이하게 하고자 하였다.

Thermo-Elastic Analysis for Chattering Phenomenon of Automotive Disk Brake

  • This study investigates the effects of operating conditions on the chattering of an automotive disk brake by experimental and computational methods. Design factors, which cause chattering in automobiles, have attracted great attentions for long time; but they are not well understood yet. For this study, we construct a brake dynamometer for measuring the disk surface temperature during chattering, and propose an efficient hybrid algorithm (combining FFT-FEA and traditional FEA program) for analyzing the thermo-elastic behavior of three-dimensional brake system. We successfully measure the judder in a brake system via the dynamometer and efficiently simulate the contact pressure variation by the hybrid algorithm. The three-dimensional simulation of thermo-mechanical interactions on the automotive brake, showing the transient thermo-elastic instability phenomenon, is presented for the first time in this academic community. We also find from the experimental study that the disk bulk temperature strongly influences the brake chattering in the automotive disk brakes.

  • Fast Fourier Transformation(FFT) is one of the most useful way to analyze response signal for the purpose of grasping the dynamic characteristics of system. Vibration test using impact hammer is typical and simple experimental method widely used for catching hold of dynamic peculiar characters and modal behaviors of system. In this thesis, impact testing module for NI-PXI equipment is developed. The analyzing and visualizing module are developed with LabVIEW tool. A user can see quickly and easily modal shape of system after analyzing acquired data. This developed module will be expected to build up more convenient and serviceable measurement system.

  • This study deals with the viability of using a designed geometrical model consists of plane, polar coordinates (PC) and span length in the determination of bridges deformation. The data of a Tianjin Yonghe bridge located in the southern part of China as collected by RTK-DGPS technique and Accelerometer were used in the analysis. Kalman filter and fast Fourier transformation (FFT) analyses were used to determine the frequency. The results indicate that the designed plane and PC geometrical model are easy to calculate the long-time structural deformation monitoring. In addition, the observed frequency using GPS with the rate of 20 Hz doesn't give correction natural frequency of the observation structures.

  • We developed the experimental function (ERF) which can be used for the numerical curve fitting analysis in photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). We selected the core-levels of Ag 3d5/2 and Au 4f7/2 to obtain the ERF from the measured core-level spectra. For the numerical fourier transformation we applied the fast transform (FFT) algorithm. we considered optical (Wiener) filtering with the FFT due to noise and used Hann window function to remedy the information leakage in frequency domain due to discrete and finite sampling of measurement. The comparison of the curve fitting results using the ERF obtained in this work and the mathematical response function with a gaussian in the conventional approach shows clearly the improvement of the curve fitting analysis.
