  • Fast operation of a CNN based object detection is important in many application areas. It is an efficient approach to reduce the size of an input image. However, it is difficult to find an area that includes a target object with minimal computation. This paper proposes a ROI detection method that is fast and robust to noise. The proposed method is not affected by a flicker line noise that is a kind of aliasing between camera and LED light. Fast operation is achieved by using down-sampling efficiently. The accuracy of the proposed ROI detection method is 92.5% and the operation time for a frame with a resolution of 640 × 360 is 0.388msec.

  • Recently, the importance of on-site detection of pathogens has drawn attention in the field of molecular diagnostics. Unlike in a laboratory environment, on-site detection of pathogens is performed under limited resources. In this study, we tried to optimize the experimental conditions for on-site detection of pathogens using a combination of ultra-fast convection polymerase chain reaction (cPCR), which does not require regular electricity, and nucleic acid lateral flow (NALF) immunoassay. Salmonella species was used as the model pathogen. DNA was amplified within 21 minutes (equivalent to 30 cycles of polymerase chain reaction) using ultra-fast cPCR, and the amplified DNA was detected within approximately 5 minutes using NALF immunoassay with nucleic acid detection (NAD) cassettes. In order to avoid false-positive results with NAD cassettes, we reduced the primer concentration or ultra-fast cPCR run time. For singleplex ultra-fast cPCR, the primer concentration needed to be lowered to $3{\mu}M$ or the run time needed to be reduced to 14 minutes. For duplex ultra-fast cPCR, $2{\mu}M$ of each primer set needed to be used or the run time needed to be reduced to 14 minutes. Under the conditions optimized in this study, the combination of ultra-fast cPCR and NALF immunoassay can be applied to on-site detection of pathogens. The combination can be easily applied to the detection of oral pathogens.

  • We present a fast algorithm for CDMA (code division multiple access) multiuser detection using the gradient guided search. The fast algorithm calculates the maximum likelihood (ML) metric so efficiently that it needs only O(K) additions in the presence of K users once some initialization is completed. The computational advantages of the fast algorithm over the conventional method are more noticeable as more iterations are required to obtain a suboptimal solution as in the initialization with matched filters.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fast Hough transform to improve the processing time and line detection of Hough transform that is widely used in various vision systems. First, for the fast processing time, we reduce the number of features by using multi-statistical methods and also reduce the dimension of angle through six separate directions. Next, for improving the line detection, we effectively detect the lines of various directions by designing the line detection method which detects line in proportion to the number of features in six separate directions. The proposed method was evaluated with previous methods and obtained the excellent results. The processing time was improved in about 20% to 50% and line detection was performed better in various directions than conventional methods with experimental images.

  • Several works help make sliding window object detection fast, nevertheless, computational demands remain prohibitive for numerous applications. This paper proposes a fast object detection method based on three strategies: cascade classifier, selective window search and fast feature extraction. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the compared methods and achieves both high detection precision and low computation cost. Our approach runs at 17ms per frame on 640×480 images while attaining state-of-the-art accuracy.

  • In this paper, we propose fast object detection method of the cars by applying YOLOv2(You Only Look Once version 2) and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) while on the highway. We operated Darknet, OpenCV, CUDA and Deep Learning Server(SDX-4185) for our simulation environment. YOLOv2 is recently developed fast object detection algorithm that can detect various scale objects as fast speed. YOLOv2 convolution network algorithm allows to calculate probability by one pass evaluation and predicts location of each cars, because object detection process has simple single network. In our result, we could find cars on the highway area as fast speed and we could apply to the real time.

  • In this paper, we propose a time-varying modified minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) detector for the detection of higher data rate signals in a multirate asynchronous code-division multiple-access (CDMA) system which is signaled in a fast Rayleigh fading channel. The interference viewed by a higher data rate symbol will be periodic due to the presence of a lower data rate symbol which spans multiple higher data rate symbols. The detection is carried out on the basis of a modified MMSE criterion which incorporates differential detection and the ratio of channel coefficients in two consecutive observation intervals inherently compensating the fast variation of the channel due to fading. The numerical results obtained by the MMSE detector with time-varying detection show around 3 dB (M=2) and 6 dB (M=4) performance improvement at a BER of $10^{-3}$ in the AWGN channel, while introducing more computational complexity than the MMSE detector without time-varying detection. At a higher $E_b/N_0$, the proposed scheme can achieve a BER of approximately $10^{-3}$ in the presence of fast channel variation which is an improvement over other schemes.

  • Fast Fourier Transformation is employed to convert the head variation of a pipeline in the time domain to the amplitude of the frequency domain. Applying method of characteristics to a pipeline provides a significant frequency range for a surge introduced from the valve modulation. Inverse Fast Fourier Transformation and a Finite Impulse Response Filter can be used to remove any possible noise existing from the significant frequency range of an unsteady condition. A filtered signal shows higher potential for the inverse calculation of leakage detection than the noise-added signal does. The respective performances of Inverse Fast Fourier Transformation and a Finite Impulse Response Filter are compared in terms of leakage detection capability. Characteristics of the frequency range for multiple leakages were investigated to validate the effectiveness of the noise control method in the frequency domain.

  • In this article, we propose a new protocol at fast scan mode for a sea-surface small target detection. The conventional fast scan mode is composed of coherent intrascan integration to suppress sea clutter and non-coherent interscan integration to exclude sea spikes. The proposed method realizes the coherent interscan integration by the new Fourier relationship between carrier-frequency and initial-radial-range, which can be analytically derived by using multiple carrier frequencies at fast scan mode, leading to improved detection performance, compared to the conventional non-coherent methods. In simulations, our proposed method is verified.

  • Data races are one of the most difficult types of bugs in concurrent multithreaded systems. It requires significant time and cost to accurately detect bugs in complex large-scale programs. Although many race detection techniques have been proposed by various researchers, none of them are effective in all aspects. In this paper, we compare the performance of five recent dynamic race detection techniques: FastTrack, Acculock, Multilock-HB, SimpleLock+, and causally precedes (CP) detection. We experimentally demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of these dynamic race detection techniques in terms of their detection capability, running time, and runtime overhead using 20 benchmark programs with different characteristics. The comparison results show that the detection capability of CP detection does not differ from that of FastTrack, and that SimpleLock+ generates the lowest overhead among the hybrid detection techniques (Acculock, SimpleLock+, and Multilock-HB) for all benchmark programs. SimpleLock+ is 1.2 times slower than FastTrack on average, but misses one true data race reported from Mutilock-HB on the large-scale benchmark programs.
