A Planar Curve Intersection Algorithm : The Mix-and-Match of Curve Characterization, Subdivision , Approximation, Implicitization, and Newton iteration (평면 곡선의 교점 계산에 있어 곡선 특성화, 분할, 근사, 음함수화 및 뉴턴 방법을 이용한 Mix-and-Mntch알고리즘)

  • There are many available algorithms based on the different approaches to solve the intersection problems between two curves. Among them, the implicitization method is frequently used since it computes precise solutions fast and is robust in lower degrees. However, once the degrees of curves to be intersected are higher than cubics, its computation time increases rapidly and the numerical stability gets worse. From this observation, it is natural to transform the original problem into a set of easier ones. Therefore, curves are subdivided appropriately depending on their geometric behavior and approximated by a set of rational quadratic Bezier cures. Then, the implicitization method is applied to compute the intersections between approximated ones. Since the solutions of the implicitization method are intersections between approximated curves, a numerical process such as Newton-Raphson iteration should be employed to find true intersection points. As the seeds of numerical process are close to a true solution through the mix-and-match process, the experimental results illustrates that the proposed algorithm is superior to other algorithms.

  • An adaptive echo canceller is necessary for an application such as a speakerphone, 3G image telephony and VoIP service system. These echo cancellers need to have many taps for filtering echo signals. Many taps cause computation data to increase and convergence speed to be low. To overcome these problems, An adaptive echo canceller with the advanced convergence speed is proposed in this paper. To improve the speed, we divide an echo band into subbands and place a subband filter to be adaptive for each subband. Each subband filter recognizes the echo signal as subband echo signals. So, dynamic range of subband is small, the convergence speed is fast. Moreover, as the number of Tap and weight update are estimated in each subband, the implementation complex of a adaptive filter is low.

  • Genetic Algorithm (GA) which imitates the process of nature evolution is applied to various fields because it is simple to theory and easy to application. Recently applying GA to hardware, it is to proceed the research of Evolvable Hardware(EHW) developing the structure of hardware and reconstructing it. And it is growing a necessity of GAP that embodies the computation of GA to the hardware. Evolving by GA don't act in the software but in the hardware(GAP) will be necessary for the design of independent EHW. This paper shows the design GAP for fast reconfiguration of EHW.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a new method to extract the fetal ECG from a pregnant woman's abdominal signal using least square acceleration (LSA) filter and adaptive impulse correlation (AIC) filter. To evaluate the performance, the proposed method and other fetal ECG extraction techniques were processed using the real ECG data and then the results were compared. According to comparative results, the proposed method is powerful and successful for extracting the fetal ECG. It was able to separate perfectly even though the fetal beats overlap with the QRS wave of the maternal beats and to extract fetal ECG using any single-channel abdominal signal measured from pregnant woman's abdominal surface. Also, it could be implemented easily by fast computation time and simple structure. It is sure that our method could be useful for portable fetal monitoring system.

  • A Fresnel lens is an optical component which can be used as a cost-effective, lightweight alternative to conventional continuous surface optics. Fresnel lens solar concentrators continue to fulfill a market requirement as a system component in high volume cost effective Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) electricity generation. The basic principles of the fresnel lens are reviewed and some practical examples are described. To investigate the performance space of the Fresnel lens, a fast simulation method which is a hybrid between raytracing and analytical computation is employed to generate a cache of simulation data. Injection molders are warming up to the idea of cycling their tool surface temperature during the molding cycle rather than keeping it constant. Heat and cool process are now also finding that raising the mold wall temperature above the resin's glass-transition or crystalline melting temperature during the filling stage and product performance in applications from automotive to packaging to optics. This paper deals with the suitability of Fresnel lenses of imaging and non-imaging designs for solar energy concentration. The concentration fresnel lens confirmed machinability and optical transmittance and roughness measure through manufactured the prototype.

  • Recently, a method using a fringe pattern is widely used for 3D measurements. This is a method of measuring by using a phase value obtained by projecting a pattern to an object to be measured. This method requires many operations such as calculating the phase value and calculating the height. It takes a lot of time depending on the amount of computation. In this paper, we present a method using NVIDIA's CUDA to reduce this time. And we introduce the method of calculating phase value and height. It also shows the exact time difference between the CPU version and the CUDA version. This method is very effective because it can process the same operation in a shorter time.

  • In this paper, we propose a motion estimation method that is important in performance of video encoding. Conventional motion estimation methods have serious problems of low prediction quality and problems of much computation increase. In the paper, we propose a method that reduces unnecessary computations only using optimal candidate points, while keeping prediction quality almost similar to that of the full search. The proposed method takes only 3~5% in computational amount and has decreased prediction quality about 0~0.01dB compared with the fast full search algorithm.

  • In this paper, a new fully digital current control method of UPS inverter, which is based on an internal model control, is proposed. In the proposed control system, overshoots and oscillations due to the computation time-delay are compensated by explicit incorporation of the time-delay in the current control loop transfer function. The internal model controller is adopted to a second order deadbeat reference-to-output response which means that its response reaches the reference in two sampling time including computational time-delays. That is, the average current of filter capacitor is been exactly equal to the reference current with a time lag of two sampling intervals. Therefore, this method has an essentially overshoot free reference-to-output response with a minimum possible rise time. The effectiveness of the proposed control system has been verified by the simulation and experimental respectively. From the simulation and experimental results, the proposed system is achieved the robust characteristics to the calculation time delay and parameter variation as well as very fast dynamic performance, thus it can be effectively applied to the power supply for the critical load.

Collision detection algorithm by using mesh grouping (메쉬 그룹화를 이용한 충돌 검출 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we propose a fast collision detection method for interacting with objects in virtual space. First, in the mesh grouping step, the entire space is divided into small spaces of a predetermined size, and the positions and sizes of the smallest basic stereoscopic shapes (cube or sphere) including all of the meshes belonging to each small space are determined. In the collision detection step, it is checked whether a haptic interface point (HIP) is included in a three-dimensional figure representing a group. When a collision with a specific three-dimensional figure is confirmed, searching is performed only for the meshes in the group to find a mesh on which a possible real collision with HIP occurred. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by measuring and comparing the computation time of the proposed method with and without the proposed method.

Generalized IHS-Based Satellite Imagery Fusion Using Spectral Response Functions

  • Image fusion is a technical method to integrate the spatial details of the high-resolution panchromatic (HRP) image and the spectral information of low-resolution multispectral (LRM) images to produce high-resolution multispectral images. The most important point in image fusion is enhancing the spatial details of the HRP image and simultaneously maintaining the spectral information of the LRM images. This implies that the physical characteristics of a satellite sensor should be considered in the fusion process. Also, to fuse massive satellite images, the fusion method should have low computation costs. In this paper, we propose a fast and efficient satellite image fusion method. The proposed method uses the spectral response functions of a satellite sensor; thus, it rationally reflects the physical characteristics of the satellite sensor to the fused image. As a result, the proposed method provides high-quality fused images in terms of spectral and spatial evaluations. The experimental results of IKONOS images indicate that the proposed method outperforms the intensity-hue-saturation and wavelet-based methods.
