  • This paper deals with modeling and simulation of an industrial benzene-toluene-xylene plant. Because the fractionation unit of benzene-toluene-xylene plant has a narrow range of boiling point and doesn't have any sidecut and side reboiler, we employed boiling point estimation method in the modeling and simulation of the plant. Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation was used in the computation of thermodynamical properties. We solved resulting nonlinear equations by using Newton-Raphson method which is known to show fast convergence. Results of simulation showed good agreement with actual plant operation data.

  • A new motion estimation algorithm with lower computational complexity and good image quality when compared to the FBMA will be presented in this paper. In the proposed method, by considering the relation between neighboring blocks, the searching area in the algorithm is adjustable according to mean absolute difference of the block. By the computer simulation the computation amount of the proposed than that of the FBMA and the good result of the PSNR can be attained.

  • This paper introduces a new algorithm to calculate distortion power using complex THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) index. The proposed algorithm involves FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) to compute real and imaginary THDs of voltage and current. Case studies are presented to show the availability of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a development of the sensor fusion algorithm for a visual control of mobile robot is presented. The output data from the visual sensor include a time-lag due to the image processing computation. The sampling rate of the visual sensor is considerably low so that it should be used with other sensors to control fast motion. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a method which constitutes a sensor fusion system to give the optimal state estimates. The proposed sensor fusion system combines the visual sensor and inertial sensor using a modified Kalman filter. A kind of multi-rate Kalman filter which treats the slow sampling rate ...

  • $\textbullet$ The topological map using a thinning needs much simpler computation than that using a Voronoi. $\textbullet$ A thinning can provide much information on the environment (additional nodes). $\textbullet$ Each node created in a local map is considered as temporary and redundant nodes are discarded. $\textbullet$ A global topological map can be built fast and correctly through a thinning algorithm. $\textbullet$ Path planning can be easily achieved with a topological map.

  • This work deals with fast-to-compute global control laws for time-optimal motion of strongly nonlinear dynamic systems like resolute robots. the theory of cell-to-cell mappings for dynamical systems offer the possibility of doing the vast majority of the control law computation offline in case of time optimization with constrained inputs. These cells result from a coarse discretization of likely swaths of state space into a set of nonuniform, contiguous volumes of relatively simple shapes. Once the cells have been designed, the bang-bang schedules for the inputs are determined for all likely starting cells and terminating cells. the resulting control law is an open-loop optimal control law with feedback monitoring and correction.

  • Communications, data storage or computation by manipulating the optical signals have the strong advantages over the traditional electronic circuits in regard to the data handling speed and capacity. Effective manipulation of the optical signals, however, requires materials of large nonlinear coefficients and of fast response time. Polymeric materials are one of the promising materials to meet the requirements for nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. (omitted)

  • In this paper, we propose a key agreement protocol using Sylvester Hadamard matrices. Users obtain their common key by using a matrix shared in advance. Matrix construction is very simple, and the computation is quite fast. The proposal will be useful for communication between two users, especially for those having low computing power.

  • Comparing to the conventional adaptive filters using LMS algorithm, the proposed adaptive filters can reduce the amounts of computation and have robustness to variance of characteristics of input signals. LMS algorithm is performed in the domain of Hadamard transform after a reference signal and input signal are transformed by fast Hadamard transformation. As a transformation from time domain to Hadamard transformed domain, the proposed filter not only maintains the performance of estimating an input signal but also greatly reduces the number of multiplication. Moreover, the effect of characteristic changes of input signal is decreased. Computer simulation shows the stability and robustness of the proposed filter.

  • State-space techniques are employed to derive an equivalent nonlinear recurrent time-domain model that describes the series resonant converter behavior exactly. This model is employed effectively to analyze large signal behavior by propagating the recurrent equation and matching boundary conditions through digital computation. The model is verified with a laboratory converter for a steady-state operation.
