Three-Dimensional Image Registration using a Locally Weighted-3D Distance Map (지역적 가중치 거리맵을 이용한 3차원 영상 정합)

  • In this paper. we Propose a robust and fast image registration technique for motion correction in brain CT-CT angiography obtained from same patient to be taken at different time. First, the feature points of two images are respectively extracted by 3D edge detection technique, and they are converted to locally weighted 3D distance map in reference image. Second, we search the optimal location whore the cross-correlation of two edges is maximized while floating image is transformed rigidly to reference image. This optimal location is determined when the maximum value of cross-correlation does't change any more and iterates over constant number. Finally, two images are registered at optimal location by transforming floating image. In the experiment, we evaluate an accuracy and robustness using artificial image and give a visual inspection using clinical brain CT-CT angiography dataset. Our proposed method shows that two images can be registered at optimal location without converging at local maximum location robustly and rapidly by using locally weighted 3D distance map, even though we use a few number of feature points in those images.

  • Portable systems with built-in active noise control is required low power operation. Excessive anti noise search operation can lead to rapid battery consumption. A method that can adaptively cancel noise according to the operating conditions of the system is required and the methods of reducing power are becoming very important key feature in today's portable systems. In this paper, we propose the method of active noise control(ANC) using binary search algorithm in noisy systems. The implemented architecture detects a frequency component considered as noise from the input signal and by using the binary search algorithm, the system find out an appropriate amplitude value for anti-noise in a much faster time than the general linear search algorithm. Through the experimental results, it was confirmed that the proposed algorithm performs a successful functional operation.

Fast Geocoding of UAV Images for Disaster Site Monitoring (재난현장 모니터링을 위한 UAV 영상 신속 지오코딩)

  • In urgent situations such as disasters and accidents, rapid data acquisition and processing is required. Therefore, in this study, a rapid geocoding method according to EOP (Exterior Orientation Parameter) correction was proposed through pattern analysis of the initial UAV image information. As a result, in the research area with a total flight length of 1.3 km and a width of 0.102 ㎢, the generation time of geocoding images took about 5 to 10 seconds per image, showing a position error of about 8.51 m. It is believed that the use of the rapid geocoding method proposed in this study will help provide basic data for on-site monitoring and decision-making in emergency situations such as disasters and accidents.

Autofocus of Infinity-Corrected Optical Microscopes by Confocal Principle and Fiber Source Modulation Technique (공초점 원리와 광섬유 광원 변조를 이용한 무한보정 현미경 자동초점)

  • The autofocus is one of the important processes in the automated vision inspection or measurements using optical microscopes, because it influences the measuring accuracy. In this paper, we used the confocal microscope configuration based on not a pinhole but a single-mode optical fiber. A single mode fiber has the functions of source and detector by applying the reciprocal scheme. As a result, we acquired a simple system configuration and easy alignment of the optical axis. Also, we embodied a fast autofocus system by acquiring the focus error signal through a source modulation technique. The source modulation technique can effectively reduce physical disturbances compared with objective lens modulation, and it is easily applicable to general optical microscopes. The focus error signal was measured with respect to the modulation amplitude, reflectance of the specimen and inclination angle of the measuring surface. The performance of the proposed autofocus system was verified through autofocusing flat mirror surface. In addition, we confirmed that source modulation rarely degrades the depth resolution by the comparison between the FWHMs of axial response curves.

New Fast Block-Matching Motion Estimation using Temporal and Spatial Correlation of Motion Vectors (움직임 벡터의 시공간 상관성을 이용한 새로운 고속 블럭 정합 움직임 추정 방식)

  • This paper introduces a new technique that reduces the search times and Improves the accuracy of motion estimation using high temporal and spatial correlation of motion vector. Instead of using the fixed first search Point of previously proposed search algorithms, the proposed method finds more accurate first search point as to compensating searching area using high temporal and spatial correlation of motion vector. Therefore, the main idea of proposed method is to find first search point to improve the performance of motion estimation and reduce the search times. The proposed method utilizes the direction of the same coordinate block of the previous frame compared with a block of the current frame to use temporal correlation and the direction of the adjacent blocks of the current frame to use spatial correlation. Based on these directions, we compute the first search point. We search the motion vector in the middle of computed first search point with two fixed search patterns. Using that idea, an efficient adaptive predicted direction search algorithm (APDSA) for block matching motion estimation is proposed. In the experimental results show that the PSNR values are improved up to the 3.6dB as depend on the Image sequences and advanced about 1.7dB on an average. The results of the comparison show that the performance of the proposed APDSA algorithm is better than those of other fast search algorithms whether the image sequence contains fast or slow motion, and is similar to the performance of the FS (Full Search) algorithm. Simulation results also show that the performance of the APDSA scheme gives better subjective picture quality than the other fast search algorithms and is closer to that of the FS algorithm.

An Implementation of the OTB Extension to Produce RapidEye Surface Reflectance and Its Accuracy Validation Experiment (RapidEye 영상정보의 지표반사도 생성을 위한 OTB Extension 개발과 정확도 검증 실험)

  • This study is for the software implementation to generate atmospheric and surface reflectance products from RapidEye satellite imagery. The software is an extension based on Orfeo Toolbox (OTB) and an open-source remote sensing software including calibration modules which use an absolute atmospheric correction algorithm. In order to verify the performance of the program, the accuracy of the product was validated by a test image on the Radiometric Calibration Network (RadCalNet) site. In addition, the accuracy of the surface reflectance product generated from the KOMPSAT-3A image, the surface reflectance of Landsat Analysis Ready Data (ARD) of the same site, and near acquisition date were compared with RapidEye-based one. At the same time, a comparative study was carried out with the processing results using QUick Atmospheric Correction (QUAC) and Fast Line-of-sight Atmospheric Analysis of Spectral Hypercubes (FLAASH) tool supported by a commercial tool for the same image. Similar to the KOMPSAT-3A-based surface reflectance product, the results obtained from RapidEye Extension showed accuracy of agreement level within 5%, compared with RadCalNet data. They also showed better accuracy in all band images than the results using QUAC or FLAASH tool. As the importance of the Red-Edge band in agriculture, forests, and the environment applications is being emphasized, it is expected that the utilization of the surface reflectance products of RapidEye images produced using this program will also increase.

A Method of Hand Recognition for Virtual Hand Control of Virtual Reality Game Environment (가상 현실 게임 환경에서의 가상 손 제어를 위한 사용자 손 인식 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a control method of virtual hand by the recognition of a user's hand in the virtual reality game environment. We display virtual hand on the game screen after getting the information of the user's hand movement and the direction thru input images by camera. We can utilize the movement of a user's hand as an input interface for virtual hand to select and move the object. As a hand recognition method based on the vision technology, the proposed method transforms input image from RGB color space to HSV color space, then segments the hand area using double threshold of H, S value and connected component analysis. Next, The center of gravity of the hand area can be calculated by 0 and 1 moment implementation of the segmented area. Since the center of gravity is positioned onto the center of the hand, the further apart pixels from the center of the gravity among the pixels in the segmented image can be recognized as fingertips. Finally, the axis of the hand is obtained as the vector of the center of gravity and the fingertips. In order to increase recognition stability and performance the method using a history buffer and a bounding box is also shown. The experiments on various input images show that our hand recognition method provides high level of accuracy and relatively fast stable results.

Statistical Model of 3D Positions in Tracking Fast Objects Using IR Stereo Camera (적외선 스테레오 카메라를 이용한 고속 이동객체의 위치에 대한 확률모델)

  • This paper proposes a statistical model of 3-D positions when tracking moving targets using the uncooled infrared (IR) stereo camera system. The proposed model is derived from two errors. One is the position error which is caused by the sampling pixels in the digital image. The other is the timing jitter which results from the irregular capture-timing in the infrared cameras. The capture-timing in the IR camera is measured using the jitter meter designed in this paper, and the observed jitters are statistically modeled as Gaussian distribution. This paper derives an integrated probability distribution by combining jitter error with pixel position error. The combined error is modeled as the convolution of two error distributions. To verify the proposed statistical position error model, this paper has some experiments in tracking moving objects with IR stereo camera. The 3-D positions of object are accurately measured by the trajectory scanner, and 3-D positions are also estimated by stereo matching from IR stereo camera system. According to the experiments, the positions of moving object are estimated within the statistically reliable range which is derived by convolution of two probability models of pixel position error and timing jitter respectively. It is expected that the proposed statistical model can be applied to estimate the uncertain 3-D positions of moving objects in the diverse fields.

  • According to the developing advanced techniques and removal of Selective Availability, much research has been conducted to improve the accuracy of GPS positioning in absolute and relative mode by estimating the nuisance parameters such as atmospheric effect, clock errors and multipath. Especially, the continuous effort of establishing the CORS in many countries and the effort of ICS making effective global networking make more application areas and the necessity of more precise location is being increased. Some of the countries like German, Japan and Swiss already utilized the Virtual Reference System for better location accuracy and services. In this study, the VRS system is investigated in terms of system principle, required H/W and S/W, management and operation, revision of related law, expected application and market etc. and find optimal solution in each aspect for economic and fast set up of the system in this country. The analysis of Korean CORS, communication infra and market estimation is performed for the efficient system establishment. Also. the suggestion on the advertisement and education of the system is also included. It is expected that this study contributes for the establishment of effective and precise nationwide location service so that many SOC areas including navigation, GIS, Telematics, LBS can provides better service for the users.

A Study on the Availability of the On-Board Imager(OBI) and Cone-Beam CT(CBCT) in the Verification of Patient Set-up (온보드 영상장치(On-Board Imager) 및 콘빔CT(CBCT)를 이용한 환자 자세 검증의 유용성에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose: On-line image guided radiation therapy(on-line IGRT) and(kV X-ray images or cone beam CT images) were obtained by an on-board imager(OBI) and cone beam CT(CBCT), respectively. The images were then compared with simulated images to evaluate the patient's setup and correct for deviations. The setup deviations between the simulated images(kV or CBCT images), were computed from 2D/2D match or 3D/3D match programs, respectively. We then investigated the correctness of the calculated deviations. Materials and Methods: After the simulation and treatment planning for the RANDO phantom, the phantom was positioned on the treatment table. The phantom setup process was performed with side wall lasers which standardized treatment setup of the phantom with the simulated images, after the establishment of tolerance limits for laser line thickness. After a known translation or rotation angle was applied to the phantom, the kV X-ray images and CBCT images were obtained. Next, 2D/2D match and 3D/3D match with simulation CT images were taken. Lastly, the results were analyzed for accuracy of positional correction. Results: In the case of the 2D/2D match using kV X-ray and simulation images, a setup correction within $0.06^{\circ}$ for rotation only, 1.8 mm for translation only, and 2.1 mm and $0.3^{\circ}$ for both rotation and translation, respectively, was possible. As for the 3D/3D match using CBCT images, a correction within $0.03^{\circ}$ for rotation only, 0.16 mm for translation only, and 1.5 mm for translation and $0.0^{\circ}$ for rotation, respectively, was possible. Conclusion: The use of OBI or CBCT for the on-line IGRT provides the ability to exactly reproduce the simulated images in the setup of a patient in the treatment room. The fast detection and correction of a patient's positional error is possible in two dimensions via kV X-ray images from OBI and in three dimensions via CBCT with a higher accuracy. Consequently, the on-line IGRT represents a promising and reliable treatment procedure.
