  • The recent entry and heated competition of numerous fashion brands in the luxury fashion market have all compelled luxury businesses to change. The issue of brand equity has emerged as one of the most critical areas for luxury marketing management. Despite strong interest in the subject, there is little evidence of how brand equity is created by marketing activities and what their effects are. This study identifies the effects of luxury marketing activities on the brand equity of luxury items, utilizing Keller's (2001) 'CBBE (Customer Based Brand Equity) Model' as a theoretical framework. Based on literature review, a conceptual model for brand signature, heritage, premium price, controlled distribution, and promotion on customers' view on brand equity was tested. To test the hypothesized building paths of luxury brand equity, statistical analysis were performed with an AMOS 7.0 program using a confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model. The results were: First, luxury brand equity was defined in terms of four components (brand awareness/association, customer judgment, customer feeling, and customer-brand resonance). Second, the proposed conceptual framework of this study was partially significant. We can provide an effectiveness of Keller's CBBE model to conceptualize the building process of luxury brand equity; subsequently, marketers should develop core elements to position a brand strategy to create a competitive advantage.

And the explanatory factor which has the strongest influencing power to continuing brand loyalty was symbolism involvement. • The economy blocking and price competitiveness caused by globalization has generated an on-going controversy of global sourcing among high-priced luxury brands. The consumers in the global market purchase luxury goods based on both craftsmanship and the reputation of luxury brands. Factors such as the origin, brand and pricing can affect the intention of consumers to buy luxury goods. This study analyzed the optimum brand combination using conjoint analysis. The analysis was based on the selection of origin, brand name and price as extrinsic factors among attributes of customer choice. These factors were subdivided into Italian and Chinese origins, Gucci, Prada, and Miu Miu in terms of brand names, and 450,000, 750,000, and 1,500,000 Won in terms of price levels. The result showed that origin was considered the most important factor followed by brand name and pricing. This tendency tells us that customers consider origin, brand name and price in that order when purchasing luxury brands. In regards to each factor, respondents preferred Italian to Chinese origins, the Gucci to Miu Miu brand name, and 750,000 to 450,000 won for price level. Generally, women in their 20s and 30s preferred products from advanced nations at a medium-level price.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of perceived fit and brand transfer on extension evaluation in luxury fashion brands. The instrument for this research was a self-administered questionnaire based on a previously developed scale. The variables addressed in this scale included perceived fit, brand value for both parent brand (clothing) and extension brand (home line), extension brand association, and purchase intention of the product in extension brands. The participants in this research comprised of 215 female consumers between the ages of 19 and 51 demographically distributed nationwide. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, paired t-test, factor analysis, and regression analysis via SPSS 12.0. Findings showed that brand value consisted of two factors: cognitive and hedonic value in luxury fashion brands. Parent brand value was significantly related to perceived fit with a positive effect on brand association and hedonic value in extension brands. With respect to brand transfer, cognitive value of the parent brand increased the extension brand's cognitive value, while hedonic value of the parent brand increased the extension brand's hedonic value. In addition, purchase intention of the product in the extension brands was determined by the perceived fit and hedonic value of extension brands. This study also discusses the managerial implications for marketers in developing effective luxury brand extensions into new product categories, which leads to a synergy effect in building brand equity in the luxury fashion market.

  • As generations Y and Z gain influence, luxury fashion brands are interacting with younger digital consumers through fashion film, seeking to offer them a differentiated brand experience. Using a literature review addressing characteristics of fashion films as a communication medium and luxury fashion brands' heritage in the digital era, this study examines how brands express their heritage through fashion film, categorizing those expressions in terms of implicit meaning. The case study analyzed films from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, and Burberry uploaded to YouTube between 2018 and 2020. First, to retain their status as luxury, brands emphasize historical legitimacy. Specifically, they highlight their iconic historical image, their succession of creative directors, valuable historic locations, and diversity of consumer's brand experiences. Second, by stressing craftsmanship, integrating contemporary art and local culture, and utilizing a museum aura, they use brand heritage to acquire luxury status. Third, they attempt to mythify the founders by creating the persona of the fashion designer and the artist. The results show that the heritage depicted in fashion films is a key way in which luxury fashion brands resolve the tension between accessibility and exclusivity that they encounter and to get consumers emotionally engaged with brands.

  • This study investigates Korean consumers' general perception on brand authenticity, tests the influences of authenticity determinants on the evaluation of fashion brand authenticity and compares the influences in terms of brand category (luxury/non-luxury). A three-stage methodological approach was adopted: (1) A literature review identifies authenticity determinants and generates measurement items. (2) A preliminary study uses a quantitative survey (n=50) to purify the determinants. (3) A quantitative consumer survey (n=150) identifies general perceptions on brand authenticity by measuring the perceived relevance of brand authenticity on determinants and explores the influence of determinants on authenticity evaluations using purified measurements of authenticity determinants. The results of general perception on brand authenticity show that Korean consumers deem authentic brands as honest, sincere and socially responsible. The results indicate obvious differences between luxury and non-luxury brands towards the influence of perceived authenticity determinants (genuine, consistent, original, traditional and authoritative) on authenticity evaluation of luxury/non-luxury brands. In non-luxury brands, only 'genuine' and 'consistent' have significant effects that are similar to the results of the general perception on brand authenticity. However, only 'consistent' and 'authoritative' have significant effects for luxury brands and are different from the general perception.
