The purpose of this study is to investigate recognition degree and acceptability of fashion trends of new consumers who live in digital era, and to determine how these factors have influence on their use of fashion trend information. The study was conducted with 696 people from 15 to 34 years old. A self-administrated questionnaire based on the results of previous researches was developed. The data were analyzed with statistical analyses such as frequency analysis, mean, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and regression analysis. The results are as follows: first, new digital consumer's recognition degree (RD) of fashion trends is 7.85 on the average, given that the top of scale is 20.0, it is quite low. Of fashion trend RD, fashion item RD is the highest. The female subjects recognize fashion trends better than the male subjects. Second, fashion trend acceptance of new digital generation is classified into 5 factors: 'search acceptance', 'lead acceptance', 'follow acceptance', 'non-acceptance', and 'delay acceptance'. The female subjects show higher degree in the factors of 'search acceptance', 'lead acceptance' and 'follow acceptance' of fashion trend than the males; hence it means that the females have more positive attitudes in fashion trend acceptance than the males. Third, there are significant differences between genders in the fashion information utilization. Compared to the males, the females more use fashion information on style, fabrics and color. Concludingly, their fashion trend recognition degree and acceptance made an influence in part on their utilization of fashion information.
This research investigates the effect of fashion leadership on Word of Mouth (WOM) communications on the Internet. This research categorizes consumers into groups by fashion leadership and compares the groups regarding the WOM behavior (degrees of WOM acceptance and delivery as well as the motivations of WOM acceptance and delivery). The subjects of the study were 325 males and females. Major statistical methods used for the study were factor analysis, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$'s test, and chi-square test. The results categorized consumers into five groups by fashion leadership (dual leaders, fashion innovators, fashion opinion leaders, fashion followers, and fashion laggards). There were significant differences among fashion leadership groups over WOM behavior (acceptance and delivery) and monthly clothing expenditures. Fashion dual leaders had a higher degree of WOM acceptance with motivation of fashion information acquisition and compliance, and they had a higher degree of WOM delivery through motivation of economic compensation, pleasure, and advice. In addition, they had a higher expenditure for clothing products. Fashion innovators had a lower degree of compliance in WOM acceptance. Fashion opinion leaders had a higher degree of WOM delivery through motivation from advice. Fashion followers delivered WOM through motivation of economic compensation and advice. Fashion laggards had a lower degree of WOM acceptance and delivery.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-esteem and the body cathexis on consumers' attitude in acceptance of fashion trends. The subjects were 460 women from in their 20's to 60's living in Daegu area. The scale for self-esteem and the body cathexis were used and self-report questionnaires were applied to measure the acceptance of fashion trends. The data were analysed by frequency, mean, factor analysis, ANOVA and Duncan-test using SPSS-package. The results were as follows. First, the results of analysing the factor of the response of acceptance of fashion trends identified three attitudes; 'active to fashion trends', 'passive to fashion trends' and 'unconcern to fashion trends'. Secondly, there were significant differences in the acceptance of fashion trends in accordance with an age. Thirdly, there were significant differences in the acceptance of fashion trends and clothing shopping orientation according to one's self-esteem and the body cathexis. It appeared that higher the level of self-esteem and the body cathexis predicts an 'active to fashion trend' attitude in acceptance of fashion trends.
The current study tests the effect of fashion product knowledge and confidence in fashion coordination on innovative fashion product acceptance, mediated by creative fashion consumer efficacy. Creative fashion consumer efficacy refers to a consumers' belief in the ability to consume fashion products in a creative way. The survey was conducted on 474 people between 20 and 40 years of age in a panel of online survey firms. Data was analyzed using reliability analysis and frequency analysis by SPSS 20.0 along with confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling done by AMOS 20.0. The results reveal that creative fashion consumer efficacy consists of original thinking efficacy, usage expansion efficacy, problem solving efficacy, and method variation efficacy that is consistent with the original structure of creative consumption efficacy. In addition, fashion product knowledge and confidence in fashion coordination do not affect innovative fashion product acceptance. The effects of fashion product knowledge and confidence in fashion coordination on innovative fashion product acceptance are fully mediated through creative fashion consumer efficacy. The results of this study demonstrate that people who are knowledgeable, confident and associated with fashion product consumption can have a high level of creative fashion consumer efficacy that increases innovative fashion product acceptance.
This study identified the appropriateness of acceptance models of smart clothing and differences in the hypothesis of the path to clothing acceptance by classifying consumers depending on the level of technology innovation and fashion innovation through the extended TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) presented by Chae (2009). 815 copies of data were collected from adults over twenty living in major South Korean cities and analyzed them using a SPSS 15.0 and AMOS 5.0 package. Based on the average value of technology innovation and fashion innovation, the respondents were classified into: Group 1 with high technology innovation and fashion innovation, Group 2 with high technology innovation but low fashion innovation, Group 3 with low technology innovation but high fashion innovation, and Group 4 with low technology innovation and fashion innovation. The appropriateness of models for the four classified groups was verified. The analysis proved that an extended TAM for each classified group explains the acceptance process of smart clothing; especially the appropriateness of model of Group 1 and Group 4 was comparatively higher than other groups. Perceived usefulness was revealed as the key variable that affects consumer attitudes to accept smart clothing. Perceived ease of use has indirect positive effects on consumer attitudes passing through perceived usefulness and clothing involvement partly exerted impacts on consumer attitudes and the intention of acceptance. The mediating role of attitudes to explain the intention of the acceptance of smart clothing is high and suggests that it is necessary to take a positive role to help the consumer perceive the functional and useful aspects of the clothing.
This study investigated the role of YouTube in providing fashion information and explored how fashion companies and individual YouTubers used this platform to communicate with consumers and disseminate fashion contents. This research identified two main types of YouTube information providers: fashion companies and fashion YouTubers. It focused on characteristics of YouTube fashion information (such as informativity, novelty, usefulness, authenticity, and enjoyment) and their impact on consumer needs satisfaction, information satisfaction, and information acceptance. An online survey was conducted with female consumers aged 20 to 39 years, analyzing responses to assess how YouTube fashion information affected consumer behavior and decision-making. Using SPSS for statistical analysis, results indicated that usefulness and enjoyment significantly influenced information acceptance, particularly with fashion companies showing a stronger impact from usefulness, while authenticity and enjoyment were more influential for fashion YouTubers. Moreover, mediating effects of consumer needs satisfaction and information satisfaction on the relationship between fashion information characteristics and information acceptance were examined. Findings revealed that various characteristics had different mediating effects based on whether the information provider was a fashion company or a fashion YouTuber. Notably, enjoyment and authenticity played crucial roles in mediating consumer needs satisfaction. Overall, this study provides insights into how YouTube serves as a vital channel for fashion information, influencing consumer satisfaction and behavior. It also offers practical implications for fashion marketers on how to leverage YouTube effectively to meet consumer needs and enhance information acceptance, thereby proposing strategic marketing recommendations for fashion companies and YouTubers.
This study explores aspects of Vietnamese students' acculturation and acceptance behavior of K-fashion, based on the theory of planned behavior (TPB). In-depth interviews were conducted with 8 Vietnamese international students in Korea. The results of the study firstly indicate that K-fashion acceptance behavior of Vietnamese students reflected eight values of K-fashion, two motives of behavior, and two types of K-fashion acceptance behavior. Vietnamese students generally displayed a favorable attitude toward K-fashion. They all switched to K-fashion styles and actively showed their styles through SNS. Second, there was a difference in K-fashion behavior depending on whether the motivation for acculturation was of an active or inactive nature. The distinction between these two groups was determined by applying behavioral reasoning theory (BRT). Students whose motivation for learning Korean was an interest in Korean culture were characterized by active behavior in adapting to Korean culture, while those whose motivation for learning Korean was for strategic reasons, such as finding a good job, exhibited inactive K-fashion acceptance. This study has academic significance in that it enhances the understanding of Vietnamese consumers through the K-fashion acceptance behavior of Vietnamese students in Korea. Vietnamese students who actively embrace K-fashion play an important role in spreading K-fashion, so it could be beneficial to establish a strategy for promoting K-fashion in collaboration with them.
The objective of this study were to (1) investigate the relationship between evaluations of apparel advertising, fashion involvement, and social attitudes, (2) examine how evaluation of apparel advertising, fashion involvement, and social attitudes vary according to gender, and (3) investigate the possible differences in purchase attitudes toward the advertised apparels according to gender and advertisement slogan. Questionnaire for evaluations of apparel advertising was comprised of four sections; apparel advertising acceptance, evaluation of advertisement slogan, purchase attitude toward the advertised apparels, and perception of effective media for apparel advertising. For evaluation of advertisement slogan, 5 sets of apparel advertisements were selected. Each set had two advertisements; one advertisement contained an image-oriented slogan, while the other had a quality-oriented slogan. "The Social Attitude Scale' by Kerlinger and 'Fashion Involvement Index' by Tigert, Ring & King were used. All the items were selected on the Cronbach's alpha reliability. The subjects were 217 college male and famale students in Seoul; 60 were asked about purchase attitude toward the image-oriented slogan, 60 purchase attitude toward the quality-oriented slogan, and 97 all the items included in evaluation of the two slogans. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient, X2-test, t-test, two-way ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. The results of the study were the followings. 1. Fashion involvement had positive relationship with apparel advertising acceptance. The higher the level of conservative attitude males had, the more positive attitude they had in fashion involvement and apparel advertising acceptance. Subjects high in conservative attitude, fashion involvement, and apparel advertising acceptance. Subjects high in conservative attitude, fashion involvement, and apparel advertising acceptance had more positive in purchase of the advertised apparels. 2. Females high in apparel advertising acceptance were more favorable toward image-oriented advertisements. 3. Fashion involvement and apparel advertising acceptance were significantly higher in females than in males. Liberal attitude was significantly higher in males than in females. Evaluation of advertisement slogan did not differ according to gender. 4. Males perceived 'TV' was the most effective media for apparel advertising while females perceived 'display' was the most effective. 5. No significant interactions between advertisement slogan and gender were found in purchase attitude of the advertising apparels. 6. Apparel advertising acceptance was influenced by fashion involvement, social attitude, and sex. The explanatory power of the three variables was 17%.
The purpose of the present study was to analyze the acceptance level of forecasted information of casual wear in tate 1990s in Korea and the way of utilizing fashion trends information by casual wear industries. The Present study was implemented by content analysis and descriptive survey using questionnaire and interview. Trends information in fashion journals published by fashion institute and articles in daily newspapers were analyzed in terms of fashion image, color, fabric, and silhouette. The data collected from questionnaire and interview with 113 fashion specialists were analyzed through frequency, percentage. The results indicated that among the forecasted information regarding fashion image, romantic and feminine images showed a high level of acceptance to national brand women's casual wear in the late 1990s, while mannish image showed a low level of acceptance. For men's casual wear in the same time period, androgynous trends appeared most frequently, not only in forecasted information, but also in actual trend. it was forecasted that yellow, white, and gray would be in trend and those colors appeared frequently in actual trend. On the other hand pastel tone appeared much more frequently than forecasted. Natural, thin - transparent (S/S) and stretch fabrics (F/W) were in actual trend as it was forecasted. Fit and Pare (woman), and long and slim (man) silhouettes were in actual trend as if was forecasted, but barrel silhouette appeared only in forecasted information. Most of the information forecasting fashion trends for next season were applied to the product planning of the season, right after the information comes out.
The purpose of this study were to examine fashion information acceptance and fashion information sources and to analyze the difference according to clothing shopping orientation among digital generation male consumers. The subject were 349 male who were belonging to digital generation as the digital era's new consumers familial with internet and various kinds of digital media. A self-administrated questionnaire was developed based on the results of previous researches. The data were analyzed by using frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, $\chi^2$ test, multiple regression analysis by SPSS WIN 12.0 package. The results of this study are as follows: First, clothing shopping orientation of digital generation males were classified into 6 factors: fashion oriented, impulse buying, aesthetic pursuit, individuality pursuit, practical type and reasonable economy. Based on the factor scores, 3 clusters were identified; independent, unconcern, high involvement. Second, the high involvement shopping group utilized various information sources. On the other hand, the unconcerned shopping group was passive in utilizing information sources. Third, the fashion information acceptance of digital generation was classified into 5 factors: searching, leading, following, non-accepting, and delaying acceptance. All fashion information acceptance factors were affected by the information and communication media. Finally, The high involved type of shopping group accepted fashion information at its most and actively.
