We performed comprehensive quality control for eddy-covariance measurements from 3 farmland sites and 1 industrial site adjacent to Nakdong river. The quality control program is based on Foken and Wichura (1996) and Vicker and Mahrt (1997) and we added criteria for trend and standard deviation for scalar variables and modified criteria for non-stationarity condition of Foken and Wichura (1996) to consider random error of fluxes. The classification of data quality is designed for the raw data and the processed flux data, separately. Use of added criteria efficiently reduces the number of outlier for water vapor and $CO_2$ fluxes and use of modified criteria for non-stationarity reduces the number of outlier for scalar fluxes and increases the number of data with accepted quality for further work. Energy balance ratio is higher in farmlands than industrial site, which is due to neglect of heat storage term in industrial site. Among farmland sites, C4 site shows higher energy balance ratio than other sites. This is due to more homogeneous surface of C4 site than other farmland sites. However, energy balance ratio is very low or even negative at night. Mismatch between the flux footprint and the other energy component footprint over the heterogeneous surface is main cause for energy imbalance at night. Other possible causes are also discussed.
Waterlogging and unintended lake formation become the main problem in some parts of the world. Starting from 1989, the waterlogging problem was observed in the farmland of the Jarso community of Konso Woreda adjacent to the Segen River in Ethiopia. Therefore, the objectives are determining the extent and causes of unintended lake formation using GIS/RS in addition to a preliminary field survey to mitigate the problem. The analysis of satellite images revealed that over the years invasion of the irrigable land by unwanted water had increased, as, in 1989, the size of the wetland area was about 8 Km2; in 2000 the size of the un-intended lake was only 8.23 ㎢. Alarmingly the size of the lake increased to 19.68 Km2 in 2014. Silting up of Weir and changing the flow of River Segen and Human Intervention and changing the natural flow of River Yanda were the main causes of this unwanted prolonged water-logging. The ecological and social environment has been degrading as the people of the waterlogged area have been experiencing some settlement and losing their land. Another problem encountered was flooding from River Barka and invasion of the farmland. Sediment control best management practices (BMPs) i.e, Removal of sediment, providing sandbags and well-scheduled maintenance; Changing the junction point of Yanda and Segen River were suggested for the long-term and short term possible remedial measures. Gabion retaining wall on the bank of the Segen River to the face of Barka River was suggested to protect the farmland from flooding.
As a pre-step research to make land-use planning in the region level, this study aims to analyze some probability pattern representing transition probabilities from farmland to others using the sequential detailed digital land-use maps. Kinki and Chubu regions of Japan, which have Osaka and Nagoya cities as their center places respectively, were selected as test regions in this study. The 10m grid land-use maps for four time series at every 5 year from 1977 to 1992 were used. In this study, the regions were divided into three sub-areas 10km, 20km, and 30km according to distance from center cities, respectively. The correlation coefficient (CC) between sub-areas with same distance in the two regions was calculated to analyze whether or not the two regions have common points in the pattern of land-use conversion probability from farmland to other types. The probability distribution of the converted areas which were moved to the urbanized area (residential, commercial, industrial, road, park and public facility areas) was about $40{\sim}70%$ for both all periods and sub-areas. According to distance from city centers, the probability moved to the urbanized area was about 60% at 10km area, and 40% at the 30km area, which means that the values we decreased gradually, while in the case moved to the forest and the etc areas, the values were increased slightly. The CC analysis from the paddy field and the dry field to the others separately showed that there is high correlation in the probability pattern between the two regions.

This study estimates how much climate variables affect the land price and acreage of rice paddy and dry farm field in agriculture with the case of Gangwon-do in Korea. To this end, we capitalize upon the Ricardian approach based upon the panel data on climate, soil and geography, farmland prices and acreage, other economic and social variables for 11 municipal units comprising Gangwon-do during the period of 1992-2010. Our empirical analysis shows that the temperature variable has negative economic impacts on the price and acreage of rice paddy and dry farm field, confirming that the temperature variable is much significant than that of precipitation in global warming. On the other hand, the other determinants of farmland price and acreage are different with the type of farmland in Gangwon-do.
This study was carried out to developed that appraisement model of Potential Productivity Index(PPI). PPI model was used Farmland Productivity Index(FPI) and Labor Productivity Index(LPI) by GIS, and PPI model applied to farm land consolidation region which has been completed recently. FPI was determined by overlapping Poly Grid of the soil properties at the analyzed project region. LPI was estimated by addition productive wages ratio of total direct productive cost. Addition productive wages determined by GIS Network analysis GIS Network analysis of working distance between farm house to paddy and each paddy. PPI variation of each the analyzed paddy of Masu and Weoncheon region was 0.967~0.780 respectively, and could be showed relative largely PPI value. PPI will provide basic element for large scaling and gathering of farm land and a substitute lot of farm land consolidation, and will be maximize productivity of paddy.

This study estimates the characteristics of flow loads by classification items of the Ministry of Environment and by land cover change using HyGIS-SWAT. The result of analyzing the land cover change using the classification items shows that the urban area and the farmland area in Mishim-cheon and Gap-cheon are expanding while the forest area is decreasing. The result of analyzing the characteristics of classification items shows that peak discharge increases and total yearly discharge decreases in Mushim-cheon. The result of analyzing the characteristics by data-construction period shows that peak discharge decreases but total discharge increases in Gap-cheon. Three land cover change scenarios are applicable to the expansion of urban area and farmland area. According to the result of application, urbanization influences and Farmland area expansion influences increase peak discharge, total yearly discharge and sediment concentration.
This study evaluates the water quality of the river near the alpine farmland in the upper Naerin stream, which is a typical stream of the upper Bukhan River with muddy water generation, by the flow examination, it aims to estimate the characteristics of nonpoint sources flowing out from the investigated area and figure out effective methods to reduce them. According to the result of water quality examination, the average BOD of the area not affected by the cultivated land among the areas of the upper Naerin River was 0.47mg/l, and total phosphorous was 0.007mg/l; thus, it maintained the cleanliness level of Ia. The average BOD of the area with the alpine farmland was 0.52mg/l, which was similar to the one of the non-cultivated land. But total phosphorous concentration was 0.023mg/l, which was more than three times higher than the area belonging to level II due to the effect of fertilizer ingredients discharged from the cultivated land. About the loadings of the investigated area generated from each of the pollution sources, BOD was 878.5kg/day and total phosphorous was 79.7kg/day. Moreover, for the load density, BOD was $2.22kg/day.km^2$ and total phosphorous was shown as $0.20kg/day.km^2$. Regarding the rates generated from nonpoint sources like land among the loadings per pollution sources, BOD was 54%, total nitrogen was 91%, and total phosphorous was 73.4%. Therefore, it was shown that most of the nutrients were produced from the nonpoint sources. The level of BOD runoff loading in the Jaun River area, where nonpoint sources were mainly generated, was 37.1kg/day and total phosphorous was 1.33kg/day. The flow rates to the generated amount were estimated as 10.5% and 4.7% each.
Hydrogeochemistry of groundwater was studied in order to identify the influence of cow manure, distributed to a farmland as organic fertilizer, on nitrate concentrations in shallow groundwater and its spatio-temporal variations. From monitoring wells, water levels were measured using automatic data loggers, and water samples collected and analyzed in Feb., April, June and Oct. 2007. The average electric conductivity and concentration of nitrate in the groundwater show the highest levels in April and decline in subsequent sampling times. Decreases in dissolved oxygen(DO) and nitrate concentrations from April to Oct. and corresponding increases in $HCO_3$ concentrations indicate denitrification processes by microorganisms. Spatial variation of nitrate concentration appeared to be affected by the redox conditions of groundwater controlled by geochemical reactions of Mn, Fe and DOC contents.
The value of Jeju Batdam has been reexamined as it is listed as a nationally important agricultural heritage and globally important agricultural heritage systems. However, it is already exposed to threats such as reduction of agricultural population and cultivation area. Despite efforts like the agricultural heritage system to preserve traditional agriculture, there is few basic investigation into the current status of Jeju Batdam. The purpose of this study is to estimate the length of Jeju Batdam. We used the continuous cadastral map of Jeju area to extract the boundaries of the field lot. In the cadastral map, the farmland was selected by selecting dry fields, paddy fields and orchards. 300 sample site were selected from the extracted farmland, and the boundaries between the Internet map and the parcels were superimposed and the differences were confirmed on the drawing. After that, field survey was conducted to confirm the boundary of the parcels and the existence of actual Batdam. It is estimated that the length estimated from this study is at least 23,983km and maximum 142,353km, which is at least 1,830km longer than 22,108km announced in 2007. Since Jeju Batdam is based on land parcel boundary, it is an objective and efficient method to utilize intellectual information. In addition, because it is subordinate to farmland, new information can be extracted reflecting the change of land use and make the spatial database based on the cadastral maps.
A long-term field demonstration experiment on selected stabilization methods to reduce the heavy metal mobility in farmland soil contaminated by heavy metals was conducted. The field demonstration experiment was established on the contaminated farmland with wooden plates (thickness = 1 cm), of which the dimension were width = 200 cm, Length = 200 cm, height = 80 cm, filled with treated soil, which was mixed with lime stone and steel refining slag except on control plot. Soil samples in the plots were collected and analyzed during the experiment period (6 months) after the installation of the plots. The field demonstration experiment results showed that the application lime stone at the ratio of 5% was effective for immobilizing heavy metal components in contaminated farmland soil.
