This study was designed to examine the effect of joint participation in decision-making on the home management satisfaction of new-generation married women, which will issue basic data for improving the quality of new-generation home life. The sample was composed of 371 married women under 39years old, selected by age and the local distribution. Major findings are as follows. 1) New-generation married women’s joint participation in decision-making showed a significant difference by degree of communication, perception of the adequacy of resources, perception of the level of living. Home management satisfaction shoed a significant difference by state of employment, existence of children, sex role attitudes, degree of communication, perception of the adequacy of resources, perception of the level of living. 2) The more a couple participated in decision-making about eating and children, the higher level a new-generation married women showed in home management satisfaction. 3) The main variables predicating new-generation married women’s home management satisfaction was perception of the adequacy of resources, perception of the level of living, gender role attitudes, existence of children, joint participation in decision-making about eating and children. They accounted for 36% of the variance.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore decision making experiences of Korean women with breast cancer who underwent breast reconstruction with/after a mastectomy. Methods: Data were collected during 2015-2016 through individual in-depth interviews with 10 women who had both mastectomy and breast reconstruction, and analyzed using phenomenological method to identify essential themes on experiences of making a decision to have breast reconstruction. Results: Five theme clusters emerged. First, "expected loss of sexuality and discovery of autonomy" illustrates various aims of breast reconstruction. Second, "holding tight to the reputation of doctors amid uncertainty" specifies the importance of a trust relationship with their physician despite a lack of information. Third, "family members to step back in position" describes support or opposition from family members in the decision making process. Fourth, "bewilderment due to the paradox of appearance-oriented views" illustrates paradoxical environment, resulting in confusion and anger. Lastly, "decision to be made quickly with limited time to oneself" describes the crazy whirling process of decision making. Conclusion: Findings highlight aims, worries, barriers, and facilitators that women with breast cancer experience when making a decision about breast reconstruction. Deciding on breast reconstruction was not only a burden for women in a state of shock with a diagnosis of breast cancer, but also an opportunity to decide to integrate their body, femininity, and self which might be wounded from a mastectomy. These findings will help oncology professionals provide effective educational counselling before the operation to promote higher satisfaction after the operation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate if recommendation selling (methods of recommendation selling, a key word used for recommendation, and employee attitude) influences the customers' menu decision. The results of the study are as follows: 'Menu picture' and 'explanation by word' among the tools used by employees for recommendation were found to influence customers' menu decision. The words such as 'new menu' and 'special only today' used by employees for recommendation were found to influence customers' menu decision. Employees' attitude elements such as 'interesting explanation', 'dressed up tidy', 'strong intention', and 'patience' were found to influence customer's menu decision. 'Recommendation selling' in the food and beverage industry means 'employees help customers make a good decision on food and beverage service'. This study makes an important contribution to the food industry in terms of providing substantial marketing strategies.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of social support and, career decision-making self-efficacy on career maturity of adolescents of different gender and grades. Further, it aims to provide basic information for career maturity to create career educational program for adolescents. The participants of the study were 447 middle and high school students who were selected from second grade of five schools in Daegu. All participants were tested on social support, career decision-making self-efficacy and career maturity scale. The results were analyzed using two-way ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation Analysis, Regression Analysis with SPSS 18.0. The results of the present research are summarized as follows: first, the results of the ANOVA subscales revealed that there were significant gender and grade main effects and interaction effects of social support, career decision-making self-efficacy and career maturity. Second, the results of the correlation analysis among of the social support, career decision-making self-efficacy and career maturity showed a positive and negative correlation. Third, in terms of the influence of social support, career decision-making self-efficacy had a significant meaningful influence on career maturity. The results of this study can be used as a fundamental reference in career counseling at school for enhancing adolescent's career development and success.
The purposes of this study were to explore decision-making patterns of rural couples and to clarify the differences between socio-demographic variables related to the patterns. The data were gathered from 1,870 rural households through interviews with structured questionnaire in the 187 rural communities sampled by multi-staged cluster stratified sampling method in November 2005. A total of 1,106 farm households including householder and spouse participated in the interview. The results of this study were as follows: First, in general, mainly householder made decision-making in the areas of dealing with real estate and selling farm products, while spouse decided in the areas of choosing television channel and deciding living expenses. Second, there were no significant differences of patterns by age, education and income level. Third, decision-making patterns were significantly different by sex and family type. According to the results of the study, in farm household, 'pattern of mainly householder or husband decision-making' was high yet as regarding agricultural decision making. Therefore, researchers suggested that educational program could be helpful for rural couples to participate in practicing gender equity decision- making.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the differences in preference for terminal care between hospitalized patients and nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive design was used in 79 patients and 107 nurses. The data were collected from August to October 2011, using the Preference for Care near the End of life Scale - Korean Version (PCEOL-K) with 5-point scale of 26 items. The reliability of the tool was Cronbach's ${\alpha}=.74$. Results: The mean score (SD) of PCEOL-K's sub-dimensions in nurses' priority was: (a) pain $3.70{\pm}0.63$, (b) spirituality $3.63{\pm}0.61$, (c) family $3.40{\pm}0.70$, (d) autonomous decision making $2.30{\pm}0.66$, and (e) decision making by healthcare professionals $2.14{\pm}0.64$. In patients' priority, the $M{\pm}SD$ score of each sub-dimension was: (a) pain $3.86{\pm}0.65$, (b) family $3.83{\pm}0.57$, (c) decision making by healthcare professionals $3.37{\pm}0.85$, (d) spirituality $3.01{\pm}0.80$, and (e) autonomous decision making $2.43{\pm}0.63$. Results indicated significant differences between nurses and patients regarding decision making by healthcare professionals (t=-11.28, p<.001), family (t=-4.66, p<.001), and spirituality (t=5.71, p<.001). Conclusion: The PCEOL-K of patients was higher than nurses'. A terminal care program for hospitalized patients at the end of life should be planned according to the results of PCEOL-K in nurses and patients.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of fashion information source in the stage of purchase decision-making and difference by stage of purchase decision-making and difference by stage of the effect extend, and to analyze the difference by fashion information source. For this study, the data were collected through the questionnaire distributed to 337 female students from five universities. The results are as follows: 1) There was significant difference among the effect to fashion information source according to the purchase decision-making stage. At the adoption stage, fashion information source have the most effect on clothing purchase. 2) The effect of Impersonal Source in the purchase decision-making stage was gradually decreased fro the initial (awareness, interest) sage to the late stage. 3) The effect of Personal Source in the purchase decision-making stage was gradually increased from the initial (awareness, interest) stage to the late stage. 4) Addition stage was highly influenced by friend and family that was Personal Independent Source than other fashion information source. However the final selection on clothing purchase was not influenced by friend and family. 5. There was significant difference among the effect of fashion information source according to the grade. Low garde students were highly influenced by Personal Source on clothing purchase, but high grade students were highly influenced by Impersonal Sources on clothing purchase. 6) There was significant difference among the effect of fashion information source according to the major. The students a majored clothing & textile-design were highly influenced by Impersional Source. These results suggest that fashion information source was significantly different according to purchase decision-making stage and was influenced by grade and major of subjects.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify clinical decision making pattern of pediatric nurses and analyze how it shows the differences in types of decision making pattern by nurses characters. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was used to pediatric nurses of 4 general hospitals in Seoul from February 2004 to April 2004. The data of 251 nurses was analyzed by varimax rotation factor analysis, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: 6 decision making patterns were identified: Individual Patient-oriented, Pattern-oriented Intuitive, Typical Nursing Knowledge-oriented, Nursing Model-oriented, Medical Knowledge-oriented, and Patient-Family-Nurse Collaborative. Individual Patient-oriented, Pattern-oriented Intuitive, Typical Nursing Knowledge-oriented, and Nursing Model-oriented decision making pattern got meaningful differences in age, marital status, total number of years in nursing practice, and number of years in pediatric nursing practice. Conclusion: We expect the result of this study can be applied for promotion of understanding the decision making of nurses that occurs in pediatric nursing practice and also can be used as foundation data for development and expansion of pediatric nursing practice.
This study aims at providing the data in order to understand home management and to mange home efficiently through attempting systems approach to home management focused on purchase decision making and marital role structure. For the purpose of this study, regarding housing purchase decision making process as a system, environmental characteristics as inputs, marital role structure and the satisfaction of purchase management as outputs, relation between inputs and outputs; the understanding about these components was established as research problem. And then the framework of analysis being based on theoretical references was suggested, and questionnaires were administrated to housewives. The result of this study is as follows: 1) Marital role structure was differently shown according to the phases of decision making process. 2) Marital role structure was differently shown according to the level of environmental characteristics. 3) The statisfaction of purchase manag ment was influenced by environmental characteristics. According to these results, home management can be understood in the view of system. That is, the morphostatic characteristics of family system can be grasped in environmental supra system in conideration of the structure of managerial sub system; the morphogenic characteristics of family system can be grasped centering on the relationship to environment.
The purpose of this study was to identify the influences of psychological independence(functional independence and emotional independence) and career decision-making self-efficacy(self-estimation, career goal, occupational-knowledge, and problem solving) on career maturity(preparation, objective, decisiveness, and certainty) among adolescents. The subjects were 447 students in the second grade of middle school and high school in D. The questionnaire consist of measures of psychological independence, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career maturity. The data were analysed with factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression by using the SPSS(SPSS/WIN 19.0) program. The major results were as follows. First, adolescents' the career maturity was significantly different depending on the socio-demographic variables. Second, it was shown that middle and high school students have a statically relation, in a relation among psychological independence, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career maturity. Third, it was found that psychological independence and career decision-making self-efficacy gave statistically meaningful influence on the career maturity of adolescents. This study is significant in that it suggests a plan for improving career maturity, and provides a basic material to improve one's active role in their parents. In addition, the results of this study can be used as a fundamental reference in career development programs and career-counseling centers at schools for enhancing adolescents' career development and success.
