  • When a satellite image has low spatial resolution, it is difficult to detect small objects. In this research, we aim to check the effect of super resolution on object detection. Super resolution is a software method that increases the resolution of an image. Unpaired super resolution network is used to improve Sentinel-2's spatial resolution from 10 m to 3.2 m. Faster-RCNN, RetinaNet, FCOS, and S2ANet were used to detect vessels in the Sentinel-2 images. We experimented the change in vessel detection performance when super resolution is applied. As a result, the Average Precision (AP) improved by at least 12.3% and up to 33.3% in the ship detection models trained with the super-resolution image. False positive and false negative cases also decreased. This implies that super resolution can be an important pre-processing step in object detection, and it is expected to greatly contribute to improving the accuracy of other image-based deep learning technologies along with object detection.

  • Incidents, which is unexpected unusual events such as traffic accidents, have increased on the most roads in Korea. The obstruction of a fluent traffic flow occurred by incidents causes the traffic congestion and decreases the capacity. The Wavelet technique was applied to detect the road section and the happening time of incidents on urban freeways in this study, and this technique has been widely used in many engineering fields such as an electrical engineering, etc. The availability and validity of the Wavelet technique to the detection of incidents was examined by the occupancy rate, the important element of traffic flows, which is extracted from the data of detectors installed on Seoul Urban freeways. Then, this result is compared to the California Algorithm and the Low-Pass Filtering Algorithm among basic present detection algorithms, which are based on the occupancy rate. As a result, the false alarm rate of this method was similar as that of the California algorithm and the Low-Pass Filtering algorithm, but the detection rate is higher.

  • This paper introduces the method for detect voices and exact end point at low SNR by maximizing voice energy. Conventional VAD (Voice Activity Detection) algorithm estimates noise level so it tends to detect the end point inaccurately. Moreover, because it uses relatively long analysis range for reflecting temporal change of noise, computing load too high for application. In this paper, the SEM-VAD (Speech Energy Maximization-Voice Activity Detection) method which uses psycho-acoustical bark scale filter banks to maximize voice energy within frames is introduced. Stable threshold values are obtained at various noise environments (SNR 15 dB, 10 dB, 5 dB, 0 dB). At the test for voice detection in car noisy environment, PHR (Pause Hit Rate) was 100%accurate at every noise environment, and FAR (False Alarm Rate) shows 0% at SNR15 dB and 10 dB, 5.6% at SNR5 dB and 9.5% at SNR0 dB.

  • The static analysis of the source code is to find the remaining security weaknesses for a wide range of source codes. The static analysis tool is used to check the result, and the static analysis expert performs spying and false detection analysis on the result. In this process, the amount of analysis is large and the rate of false positives is high, so a lot of time and effort is required, and a method of efficient analysis is required. In addition, it is rare for experts to analyze only the source code of the line where the defect occurred when performing positive/false detection analysis. Depending on the type of defect, the surrounding source code is analyzed together and the final analysis result is delivered. In order to solve the difficulty of experts discriminating positive and false positives using these static analysis tools, this paper proposes a method of determining whether or not the security weakness found by the static analysis tools is a spy detection through artificial intelligence rather than an expert. In addition, the optimal size was confirmed through an experiment to see how the size of the training data (source code around the defects) used for such machine learning affects the performance. This result is expected to help the static analysis expert's job of classifying positive and false positives after static analysis.

  • Adaptive constant false alarm rate(CFAR) algorithm is used for good detection probability as well as constant false alarm rate in clutter background. Especially, filtering technique adaptive to spatial variation is necessary for improving detection quality in non stationary clutter environment which has spatial correlation and large magnitude deviation. In this paper, we propose a two-dimensional block interpolation(TBI) adaptive CFAR algorithm that calculates the node estimate in the fred two dimensional region and subsequently determines the final estimate for each resolution cell by two-dimensional interpolation. The proposed method is efficient for filtering abnormal ejection by adopting distribution median in fixed region and also has advantage of reducing required memory space by using estimation method which gets final values after calculating the block node values. Through simulations, we show that the proposed method is superior to the traditional adaptive CFAR algorithms which are transversal or recursive in aspect of the detection performance and required memory space.

  • We analyze the performance of an adaptive hybrid search code acquisition algorithm for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems under slowly-moving mobile environments. The code acquisition algorithm is designed to provide the desired feature of constant false alarm rate (CFAR) to cope with nonstationarity of the interference in CDMA forward links. An analytical expression for the mean acquisition time is first derived and the probabilities of detection, miss, and false alarm are then obtained for frequency-selective Rayleigh fading environments. The fading envelope of a received signal is assumed to be constant over the duration of post-detection integration (PDI), considering slow fading environments. Finally, the performance of the designed code acquisition algorithm shall be evaluated numerically to examine the effect of some design parameters such as the sub-window size, size of the PDI, decision threshold, and so on, considering cdma2000 environments.

  • In this paper, efficiency in the acquisition of the PN code of the DS/CDMA system was analyzed by using the Nakagami-m probability density function that can model diverse fading channels. The system considers the fading environment that inevitably exists in the mobile communications channel environment. To analyze the efficiency of the system, the equations related to detection probability PD and false alarm probability PFA required for the acquisition of the PN code were induced by using the Nakagami-m probability density function. They were verified through simulation. For the DS/CDMA system an adaptive serial search technique was applied to acquire the PN code. To correct phase error, the equations related to detection probability PD and false alarm probability PFA that influence the time to acquire codes were induced after adding the PLL to each branch of the Rake Receiver. By using an induced equation, detection probability PD and false alarm probability PFA were verified through simulation.

  • In this paper, Ultra Wide-Band(UWB) radar sensor is employed to detect flying drones and avoid collision in dense clutter environments. UWB signal is preferred when high resolution range measurement is required for moving targets. However, the time varying motion of flying drones may increase clutter noises in return signals and deteriorates the target detection performance, which lead to the performance degradation of anti-collision radars. We adopt a dynamic clutter suppression algorithm to estimate the time-varying distances to the moving drones with enhanced accuracy. A modified Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) is developed using an adaptive filter algorithm to suppress clutter while the false detection performance is well maintained. For this purpose, a velocity dependent CFAR algorithm is implemented to eliminate the clutter noise against dynamic target motions. Experiments are performed against flying drones having arbitrary trajectories to verify the performance improvement.

  • Enterobacter sakazakii (Cronobacter spp.) causes meningitis, necrotizing enterocolitis, sepsis, and bacteremia in neonates and children and has a high mortality rate. For rapid E. sakazakii detection, various differential and selective media containing α-glucosidase substrates, such as 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-α-D-glucopyranoside (BCIG) or 4-methylumbelliferyl-α-D-glucoside (α-MUG), have been developed as only E. sakazakii exhibits α-glucosidase activity in the genus Enterobacter. However, Escherichia vulneris (family: Enterobacteriaceae) can also utilize α-glucosidase substrates, thereby resulting in false positives. Various iron sources are known to promote the growth of gram-negative bacteria. This study aimed to develop a selective medium containing α-glucosidase substrates for E. sakazakii detection that would eliminate false positives, such as those of E. vulneris, and to determine the role of iron source in the medium. Three previously developed (TPD) media, i.e., Oxoid, OK, and VRBG, and the medium developed in this study, i.e., NGTE, were evaluated using 58 E. sakazakii and 5 non-E. sakazakii strains. Fifty-four E. sakazakii strains appeared as fluorescent or chromogenic colonies on all four media that were assessed. Two strains showed colonies on NGTE medium and not on TPD media. In contrast, the remaining two strains showed colonies on TPD media and not on NGTE medium. None of the non-E. sakazakii strains showed fluorescent or chromogenic colonies on any of the evaluated media except E. vulneris, which showed colonies on TPD media and not on NGTE medium. This study demonstrated that the newly developed NGTE medium was not only equally efficient in promoting the growth of bacterial colonies when compared with the currently available media but also eliminated false positives, such as E. vulneris.

  • Increasing demands on the safety of public train services have led to the development of various types of security monitoring systems. Most of the surveillance systems are focused on the estimation of crowd level in the platform, thereby yielding too many false alarms. In this paper, we present a novel security monitoring system to detect critically dangerous situations such as when a passenger falls from the station platform, or when a passenger walks on the rail tracks. The method is composed of two stages of detecting dangerous situations. Objects falling over to the dangerous zone are detected by motion tracking. 3D depth information retrieved by the stereo vision is used to confirm fallen events. Experimental results show that virtually no error of either false positive or false negative is found while providing highly reliable detection performance. Since stereo matching is performed on a local image only when potentially dangerous situations are found; real-time operation is feasible without using dedicated hardware.
