  • The safety factor of hydraulic piston pumps & motors due to high pressurization, high speedization and low weight/volume realization to enhance the output density shows a tendency to decrease. Therefore more effective test methods are necessary to predict the exact life. The failure of hydraulic pumps & motors operating in high pressure and high speed mainly occurs in piston-shoe assemblies, and the major failure mode is wearout of the shoe surface. The sensitive parameters in the endurance life test are speed, pressure and temperature, and the failure production increases in proportion to the operating time. In this research, the authors propose the combined accelerated life test model using the analysis method of the combined accelerated life test results of piston-shoe assemblies by applying simultaneously high speed, high pressure and high temperature in accordance with variation of speed, pressure and temperature to reduce the life test time.

Analytical fault tolerant navigation system for an aerospace launch vehicle using sliding mode observer

  • Aerospace Launch Vehicles (ALV) are generally designed with high reliability to operate in complete security through fault avoidance practices. However, in spite of such precaution, fault occurring is inevitable. Hence, there is a requirement for on-board fault recovery without significant degradation in the ALV performance. The present study develops an advanced fault recovery strategy to improve the reliability of an Aerospace Launch Vehicle (ALV) navigation system. The proposed strategy contains fault detection features and can reconfigure the system against common faults in the ALV navigation system. For this purpose, fault recovery system is constructed to detect and reconfigure normal navigation faults based on the sliding mode observer (SMO) theory. In the face of pitch channel sensor failure, the original gyro faults are reconstructed using SMO theory and by correcting the faulty measurement, the pitch-rate gyroscope output is constructed to provide fault tolerant navigation solution. The novel aspect of the paper is employing SMO as an online tuning of analytical fault recovery solution against unforeseen variations due to its hardware/software property. In this regard, a nonlinear model of the ALV is simulated using specific navigation failures and the results verified the feasibility of the proposed system. Simulation results and sensitivity analysis show that the proposed techniques can produce more effective estimation results than those of the previous techniques, against sensor failures.

Vibration and stability of axially loaded cracked beams

  • Structural defects such as cracks are the source of local flexibilities and cause deficiencies in structural resistance. In the engineering constructions, structural elements sometimes are subjected to axial loading. Therefore, besides crack ratios and locations, influence of applied load on the stability and dynamical characteristics should also be explored. This study offers a numerical technique for the vibration and stability analysis of axially loaded cracked beams. The model merges finite element and component mode synthesis methods. Initially, stability analysis is completed and then dynamical characteristics of beams are found. Very good conformities between outcomes of the current study and those in literature, give the confidence that proposed method is reliable and effective.

우주방사능 효과를 고려한 저가 COTS 소형위성의 신뢰성 분석 (Reliability Analysis with Space Radiation of Low-Cost COTS Small Satellite)

  • 위성개발 시 비용의 절감과 효율적인 설계 보장을 위해 신뢰성과 고장모드 분석이 필요하지만, COTS 소자를 사용하는 소형위성의 경우 통상 제작자로부터 소자에 대한 실패율이 제공되지 않기 때문에 신뢰성 계산이 어렵다. 이 논문에서는 실패율 예측을 위해 MIL-HDBK-217F의 시험적/경험적 데이터에 기초한 방법을 사용하였고, MIL-HDBK -217F에서 고려되지 않은 방사능 환경을 실패율 예측에 반영하기 위해 방사능 효과들 중 신뢰도에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 $10^-9$failures/device/$10^6$hours 이상의 발생확률을 갖는 SEL 발생확률을 실패율 예측 결과에 추가로 반영하였다. 결국 본 논문은 실패율이 제공되지 않는 COTS 소자를 사용하는 저가 소형위성에 대해 통계적 기법을 이용한 새로운 신뢰성 해석 방법을 제안하고, 현재 개발 중인 25kg급의 초소형위성인 HAUSAT-2에 이 방법을 적용하여 분석한 결과를 보여준다.

중소 제조기업의 품질비용 행태에 관한 실증 연구 (The Correlations among the Categorized Quality Cost Factors on SMEs (Small & Medium-sized Enterprises))

  • The successful and sustainable growth of SMEs depends on their ability of strengthen their competitiveness in quality and cost and service more than anything else as a fundamental of operation. Among these key competitive factors of SMEs, quality is the most critical factor in manufacturing business fields. Because quality strongly influence cost and service performance on this manufacturing business field. There are many different ways to improve the quality performance but it needs proper management decision to choose the best way what can maximize outputs with minimum inputs. And it needs effective measurement methods and some indicators to analysis the quality performance properly. The quality cost is one of the simplest key indicators to measure the quality performance and the effectiveness of quality related management decisions. The major purpose of this study is to diagnose the categorized current level of actual quality cost of local SMEs to maximize their quality management effectiveness through comparing their level with others what's expressed in early studies. In this study, through survey on local SMEs, we found that their average annual quality cost ratio versus turnover - Total amount of annual quality cost divided by annual turnover - is around 3.69% excluded some SME's performances what have different quality control measures with others. And we found some results what corresponded with the early studies on the correlations between those categorized quality costs factors and some discrepancies between some of the literature model and the early case study results as follows. There were negative correlations between the Prevention costs and the External failure costs, and the Appraisal costs and the External failure costs, and there was positive correlation between the Appraisal costs and Internal failure costs same as early studies. But, we couldn't found any strong negative correlations between the Cost of control - Preventive costs & Appraisal costs - and the Cost of Failure of control - Internal & External failure costs -. It reveals not only the lack of effectiveness on their preventive or appraisal activities but also it can reveal there were so many effective ways to prevent the failure costs properly such as some innovative investment on Factory automation includes Error Proofing and more preventive actions to improve the effectiveness of the typical management methods likes CE (Concurrent Engineering), APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), FMEA (Failure Mode & Effect Analysis) etc.

Seismic performance of RC columns retrofitted using high-strength steel strips under high axial compression ratios

  • In this paper, the impact on seismic performance of an economical effective technique for retrofitting reinforced concrete (RC) columns using high-strength steel strips under high axial compression ratios was presented. The experimental program included a series of cyclic loading tests on one nonretrofitted control specimen and three retrofitted specimens. The effects of the axial compression ratio and spacing of the steel strips on the cyclic behavior of the specimens were studied. Based on the test results, the failure modes, hysteretic characteristics, strength and stiffness degradation, displacement ductility, and energy dissipation capacity of the specimens were analyzed in-depth. The analysis showed that the transverse confinement provided by the high-strength steel strips could effectively delay and restrain diagonal crack development and improve the failure mode, which was flexural-shear failure controlled by flexural failure with better ductility. The specimens retrofitted using high-strength steel strips showed more satisfactory seismic performance than the control specimen. The seismic performance and deformation capacity of the retrofitted RC columns increased with decreasing axial compression ratio and steel strip spacing. Based on the test results, a hysteretic model for RC columns that considers the transverse confinement of high-strength steel strips was then established. The hysteretic model showed good agreement with the experimental results, which verified the effectiveness of the proposed hysteretic model. Therefore, the aforementioned analysis can be used for the design of retrofitted RC columns.

연약점토 지반에 있는 STONE COLUMN의 지지력 산정 (Bearing capacity analysis of stone column in soft clay soils)

  • Use of stone column for deep ground treatment in soft clay soils is an effective method. The stone column significantly increases load carrying capacity of the soft clay soil. A analysis method for bearing capacity of stone column in soft clay soil is developed. The capacity made by developed method are compared wity observed values from field load test and a reasonable correlation is noted.

  • 최근 철도차량은 안전성과 신뢰성 향상을 위해 점차 복잡하게 설계 제작되고, 품질에 대한 기대와 요구수준이 점차 높아짐에 따라 운영기관에서는 과학적이고 체계적인 예방 정비를 통한 안전성과 가용성 향상을 위해 노력하고 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 여러 방안들이 연구되고 있으며, 대표적으로 신뢰성 기반 유지보수(RCM; Reliability Centered Maintenance)가 철도분야에 지속적으로 도입되고 있는 추세이다. 본 연구에서는 새로운 예방정비 기술로 대두되고 있는 RCM의 기본이론에 대한 고찰과 RCM의 일반적 실시 절차를 소개하고, RCM의 국제규격인 IEC 60300-3-11, NAVAIR 00-25-403, MIL-STD-2173을 비교 분석하여 이를 바탕으로 철도차량에 RCM 도입 시 효과적이고 적합한 절차 및 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

  • In this paper, the study on development of an applicable logic on the characteristics of Rolling stocks will be proposed. In general, this logic which means decision logic or LTA(Logic Tree Analysis) is used to analyze how the failure mode have an effects on the system. The effect would be categorized as safety, operational, economical, etc. To do this, based on the typical logics which have been applied to other industries, such as plants, aero, etc. This paper emphasizes two crucial parameters that is one cost the other customer service, that have an important role in railway system operation. In conclusion, as mentioned above as the logic for which could be effectively applied for the railway system(RST) would be developed.

신뢰도 기반 정비를 위한 기기 고장 데이터 분석

  • 국내 원전에 신뢰도 기반 정비(RCM : Reliability Centered Maintenance) 기법을 도입하기 위해 수행하고 있는 영광 1,2호기 시법계통 RCM 분석에서 관련 기기의 고장데이터를 RCM 분석 방법론에 따라 분석하였다. 본 논문에서는 작업의뢰서와 작업보고서 기록내용을 토대로 지배적인 고장모드 및 다빈도 고장발생 기기를 파악하여 고장원인을 분석하였으며, 기기 유형으로 분류하여 고장들을 분석하였다. 분석결과 지배적인 고장모드는 EPRI에서 분류한 고장모드에 모두 포함되었으며, 고장빈도가 높은 기기의 고장원인은 운전환경, 사용유체, 운전형태, 기기 형식 등에 따라 고장메커니즘이 다르게 나타나는 것으로 분석되었다. 기기 유형으로 분류하여 고장모드별로 고장율을 분석한 결과 미국의 Generic Data(IEEE Std 500-1984)와 근소한 차이를 보이거나 약간 낮은 것으로 분석되었으며, 고장율이 높은 기기 유형을 단위 기기별로 세분화하여 분석한 결과 공기구동 조절벨브의 외부누설 고장율은 1.10E-06 이지만 충전유량 조절밸브의 고장율은 1.70E-05로서 약 10배 정도로 고장율이 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 기기별로 세분화한 고장을 분석 결과는 시범계통 RCM 분석시 고장모드 영향분석(FMEA. Failure Mode and Effective Analysis) 단계에서 필수기기를 선정하는 하나의 인자로 활용하였으며, 고장율의 역수로 구한 고장간 평균시간(MTBF:Mean Time Between Failure)은 정비주기 선정시 기초데이터로 활용된다.
