소형 무인 항공기 탐지를 위한 인공 신경망 기반 FMCW 레이다 시스템 (Neural Network-based FMCW Radar System for Detecting a Drone)

  • Drone detection in FMCW radar system needs complex techniques because a drone beat frequency is highly dynamic and unpredictable. Therefore, the current static signal processing algorithms cannot show appropriate detection accuracy. With dynamic signal fluctuation and environmental clutters, it can fail to detect a drone or make false detection. It affects to the radar system integrity and safety. Constant false alarm rate (CFAR), one of famous static signal process algorithm is effective for static environment. But for drone detection, it shows low detection accuracy. In this paper, we suggest neural network based FMCW radar system for detecting a drone. We use recurrent neural network (RNN) because it is the effective neural network for signal processing. In our FMCW radar system, one transmitter emits FMCW signal and four-way fixed receivers detect reflected drone beat frequency. The coordinate of the drone can be calculated with four receivers information by triangulation. Therefore, RNN only learns and inferences reflected drone beat frequency. It helps higher learning and detection accuracy. With several drone flight experiments, RNN shows false detection rate and detection accuracy as 21.1% and 96.4%, respectively.

Study on the Failure of Autonomous Mobility in World Network Cities

  • Globalized cities are currently showing changes due to autonomous driving (AD). It is also maximizing globalization connections in cities where autonomous mobility is as complex as AD. The purpose of this study is to reveal that cities that realize AD and mobility will grow into globalized cities. Several cities, including New York and Shanghai, have attempted and are in progress, but failed cities are increasing. Although the technology of AD and the trust of citizens are prioritized, the city that has built the city's infrastructure is expected to be a city that has succeeded in AD. This is because commercialized cities or AVs will become hubs for mobility globalization, excluding rapid climate change or AV companies, and empirical analysis has been conducted that if AVs fail in metropolitan New York due to urban complexity (population density), urban economy size (GRDP), patents, number of consumers, infrastructure public EV chargers, and road quality. It examines whether the realization of AD by region and country affects overall national innovation. As a result, even if AV succeeds in large cities such as New York, Seoul, which has a higher population density (complexity), has a negative meaning, and a more similar Tokyo has a positive meaning. It can be seen that regional research on AV should also be prioritized in large cities such as Shanghai. This means that in order for AV to be realized in each city, the construction of AI infrastructure data must be actively changed to establish globalization of cities for economic growth as autonomous mobility.

Comparison of event tree/fault tree and convolution approaches in calculating station blackout risk in a nuclear power plant

  • Station blackout (SBO) risk is one of the most significant contributors to nuclear power plant risk. In this paper, the sequence probability formulas derived by the convolution approach are compared with those derived by the conventional event tree/fault tree (ET/FT) approach for the SBO situation in which emergency diesel generators fail to start. The comparison identifies what makes the ET/FT approach more conservative and raises the issue regarding the mission time of a turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater pump (TDP), which suggests a possible modeling improvement in the ET/FT approach. Monte Carlo simulations with up-to-date component reliability data validate the convolution approach. The sequence probability of an alternative alternating current diesel generator (AAC DG) failing to start and the TDP failing to operate owing to battery depletion contributes most to the SBO risk. The probability overestimation of the scenario in which the AAC DG fails to run and the TDP fails to operate owing to battery depletion contributes most to the SBO risk overestimation determined by the ET/FT approach. The modification of the TDP mission time renders the sequence probabilities determined by the ET/FT approach more consistent with those determined by the convolution approach.

Preemptive Failure Detection using Contamination-Based Stacking Ensemble in Missiles

  • In modern warfare, missiles play a pivotal role but typically spend the majority of their lifecycle in long-term storage or standby mode, making it difficult to detect failures. Preemptive detection of missiles that will fail is crucial to preventing severe consequences, including safety hazards and mission failures. This study proposes a contamination-based stacking ensemble model, employing the local outlier factor (LOF), to detect such missiles. The proposed model creates multiple base LOF models with different contamination values and combines their anomaly scores to achieve a robust anomaly detection. A comparative performance analysis was conducted between the proposed model and the traditional single LOF model, using production-related inspection data from missiles deployed in the military. The experimental results showed that, with the contamination parameter set to 0.1, the proposed model exhibited an increase of approximately 22 percentage points in accuracy and 71 percentage points in F1-score compared to the single LOF model. This approach enables the preemptive identification of potential failures, undetectable through traditional statistical quality control methods. Consequently, it contributes to lower missile failure rates in real battlefield scenarios, leading to significant time and cost savings in the military industry.

컨조인트 분석을 이용한 노약자를 위한 접근가능한 주택의 시장 세분화 연구 (A Study on the Market Segmentation of Accessible Housing for the Elderly Using Conjoint Analysis)

  • Due to the mass production of housing in Korea, homogeneous current housing may fail to represent residents' preferences, especially for the elderly. The purpose of this study is to identify the preferred properties of consumers for accessible housing and to examine whether cluster analysis can identify groups of residents with similar accessible housing preferences. Using a conjoint method, prospective users can jointly consider all accessible attributes, with cost attributes suggested by this study. Four categories (accessibility, safety, convenience, cost), 7 attributes (clear width, level difference, installation of grab bars, installation of elevators: only for single house type, non slippery floor materials, safety alarms, service control devices, cost) and 2 levels for each attribute were chosen. A total of 374 questionnaires were collected through a questionnaire survey method. This study employed ratings-based Conjoint analysis and the respondents ranked each card, which consisted of a set of accessible housing attributes. The data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0. The findings of this study have identified 3-4 clusters for each housing sub market. Each cluster has a different combination of socio-demographic characteristics and residential characteristics, and showed the relative importance or preference values for each accessible attribute of the segmentation. For the single housing, one group of people strongly preferred installation of elevator. The results suggested that better customization of housing could be more appealing to the different clusters of residents, providing accessible housing with cost limitations.

ANSYS를 이용한 스캐폴딩 시스템 타워 구조 건전성 평가에 관한 법공학적 연구 (Forensic Engineering Study on Structural Integrity Evaluation of Scaffolding System Tower using ANSYS)

  • Forensic engineering is the application of engineering principles covering the investigation of constructed facilities and systems that fail to perform as intended, causing personal injury or damage to property, environmental, economy etc. In the year 2012, two collapsed accidents of the large scaffolding system in national thermal power station occurred one after another, causing many casualties. In this study, we had performed to investigate the collapsed accident of scaffolding system occurred in the a thermal power station of two accidents. First, the investigation about the collapsed accidents site had performed to understand collapsed state and structures of the scaffolding system. Second, reviewing the materials concerning about the applied weight on the scaffolding system had performed. The applied weight is sum of the weights of the 15 workers, additional materials for coating work and dispersed and loaded shot ball on the foothold etc. the applied weight that calculated exceed more three times than the safe working load. Third, we had confirmed the install state of the materials of the scaffolding system by reviewing the quantity of the materials on the manual and the real system. Last, structural analysis had performed to evaluate structural integrity of the scaffolding system using Ansys. Through a series of this processes, the definite accidents causes of the collapsed scaffolding system revealed. Through these studies, the collapse accident that may occur in the scaffolding system in thermal power station can be minimized by performing specialized and systematic investigation on the accidents in terms of Forensic engineering.

Interfacial properties of composite shotcrete containing sprayed waterproofing membrane

  • This study evaluates the interfacial properties of composite specimens consisting of shotcrete and sprayed waterproofing membrane. Two different membrane prototypes were first produced and tested for their waterproofing ability. Then composite specimens were prepared and their interfacial properties assessed in direct shear and uniaxial compression tests. The direct shear test showed the peak shear strength and shear stiffness of the composites' interface decreased as the membrane layer became thicker. The shear stiffness, a key input parameter for numerical analysis, was estimated to be 0.32-1.74 GPa/m. Shear stress transfer at the interface between the shotcrete and membrane clearly emerged when measuring peak shear strengths (1-3 MPa) under given normal stress conditions of 0.3-1.5 MPa. The failure mechanism was predominantly shear failure at the interface in most composite specimens, and shear failure in the membranes. The uniaxial compression test yielded normal stiffness values for the composite specimens of 5-24 GPa/m. The composite specimens appeared to fail by the compressive force forming transverse tension cracks, mainly around the shotcrete surface perpendicular to the membrane layer. Even though the composite specimens had strength and stiffness values sufficient for shear stress transfer at the interfaces of the two shotcrete layers and the membrane, the sprayed waterproofing membrane should be as thin as possible whilst ensuring waterproofing so as to obtain higher strength and stiffness at the interface.

냉동 및 해동속도가 우육표면 대장균군의 반치사적 손상율에 미치는 영향 (the Effect of Freezing and Thawing Rates on the Percentage of Sub-lethally Injured Total Coliform on Beef Surface)

  • Most of meat spoilage bacteria area Gram negative, which are very sensitive to freezing ; for instance , 90% of E. coli cells are killed or sub-lethally injured by freezing at -3$0^{\circ}C$, and the freeze-injury rate is dependent upon freezing rate. Since the injured bacterial cells are sensitive to selective agents, they fail to multiply in selective media. Injured bacterial cells are, however, capable of spontaneous repair at appropriate environmental and nutritional conditions . Enumeration of injured bacterial cells involves artificial induction of repair at these conditions. Cubic beef samples(3$\times$3$\times$3cm) were frozen at -6$0^{\circ}C$, -4$0^{\circ}C$, or -18$^{\circ}C$. The samples frozen at each temperature were thawed at 4$^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$, or by microwave . After these respective freezing an thawing treatments, the percentage of sub-lethally injured total coliforms out of total surviving ones was measured and compared. The results were as follows: 1. The interaction between freezing and thawing on injury rate was not significant. 2. The injury rates(as means of all three thawing treatments post-freezing) by freezing at -6$0^{\circ}C$, -4$0^{\circ}C$, or -18$^{\circ}C$ were 32.2$^{\circ}C$ and 19.2$^{\circ}C$ respectively . 3. The injury rates(as means of all three freezing treatments)by thawing at 4$^{\circ}C$, 2$0^{\circ}C$, or by microwave were 49.3%, 11.7% and 21.0% respectively. The highest injury rate was caused by freezing at -6$0^{\circ}C$ and subsequent thawing at 4$^{\circ}C$. However since the injury rates by freezing treatment were not significantly different, freezing at -18$^{\circ}C$ and subsequent thawing at 4$^{\circ}C$ can also be recommended , from an economic perspective.

고속도로상의 차량간 통신에서 에러에 강한 긴급메시지 전달 기법 (A Robust Scheme for Emergency Message Delivery in Vehicle Communications on Freeway)

  • VSC(Vehicle Safety Communications)는 차량 사고를 방지하기 위한 VANET 응용 중 하나이며, 차량간 통신을 통해 안전과 관련된 메시지들을 주고받는다. 이를 위하여, VSC에서는 여러 종류의 Selective Flooding 기법들이 제안되었다. Selective Flooding 기법은 긴급메시지를 수신한 차량들 중에서 한 차량만이 릴레이 노드로 선정되는 기법이다. 하지만 이러한 기법들은 전송에러 및 동일 긴급 상황에 대한 메시지 중복 생성을 고려하고 있지 않다. 만일 하나의 차량이 전송 에러가 존재하는 환경에서 위험요소를 발견한 경우, 기존의 기법에서는 응급 메시지를 수신하지 못하는 차량들이 존재할 수 있다. 만일 k개의 차량이 위험요소를 발견한다면, k개의 긴급메시지가 중복 생성되고 후방으로 전파되어 메시지 전달의 신뢰성을 증가할 수 있으나 효율성이 감소한다. 본 논문에서는 전송 에러에 강하며 효율적인 긴급메시지 전달 기법을 제안한다. 제안기법은 클러스터링을 활용하여 메시지 통합 및 클러스터 내 재전송을 수행하며, 신뢰성 있는 클러스터간 통신을 위하여 Acknowledgment 기법을 사용한다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안기법이 Selective Flooding 기법인 Least Common Neighbor Flooding 보다 나은 성능을 보인다.

전기비저항 물성 분석을 통한 제체의 안정성 검토 (Safety Assessment of Embankment by Analysis of Electrical Properties)

  • 제체의 안전진단을 위해 많이 적용되고 있는 전기비저항 탐사 자료 해석의 효율성을 높이기 위해, 제체의 상태에 따른 전기비저항 물성의 변화 양상을 실내시험 및 실측 자료의 분석을 통해 파악하였다. 이를 위해 제체의 심벽 재료와 유사한 성질을 가지는 kaolinite를 이용하여 압밀조건에 따른 비저항 변화를 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 일축 압축에 의하여 전단강도가 떨어지는 경우에는 함수량에 관계없이 비저항 값이 상승하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 사실은 제체 내의 심벽부분에 공극이 크게 발달하는 경우, 함수량에 상관없이 비저항은 상승할 가능성이 있다는 것이다. 코어부의 누수 현상과 관련한 이러한 관측은, 단순히 비저항이 낮은 곳만을 탐지하는 것이 누수대역을 조사하는데 있어 목표가 되어서는 안 된다는 것을 암시한다. 또한 전기비저항 물성이 지반 강성도와 갖는 상관성을 파악하기 위해, 제체에 대한 시추를 통해 표준관입시험을 수행하였다. 마지막으로, 제체 보강을 위해 수행된 그라우팅 효과의 검증을 위해, 그라우팅에 따른 비저항변이 알고리듬을 제안하고, 실제 관측 자료와의 비교를 통해 알고리듬을 파악하였다.
