In this paper, we propose an enhanced AGC (Automatic Gain Control) structure and P-SCH detection method for initial cell search in 3GPP (3rdGenerationPartnershipProject) LTE (Long Term Evolution) FDD(Frequency Division Duplex) / TDD (Time Division Duplex) dual mode system. Since TDD frame structure consists of uplink subframe and downlink subframe, conventional AGC structure causes P-SCH detection performance degradation by increase of AGC variation due to signal power difference between uplink and downlink subframe. Also, P-SCH detection performance is degraded by distortion of P-SCH correlation characteristic in frequency offset and multipath fading channel environments. Therefore, we propose an AGC structure which can minimize P-SCH detection performance degradation with stable operation in 3GPP LTE TDD mode as well as FDD mode. Also we propose a P-SCH detection method which can reduce distortion of correlation chareteristics in frequency offset and multipath fading environments and obtain good P-SCH detection performance. Simulation results show that the proposed AGC structure and P-SCH detection method have stable AGC operation and excellent P-SCH detection performance for 3GPP LTE TDD / FDD dual mode downlink receiver in various channel environments.
This paper presents a structure of the searcher using the space diversity in array antenna system operating in the DS/CDMA signal environments. The new technique exploits the fact that the In-phase and Quadrature components of interferers can respectively be viewed as independent Gaussian noise at each antenna element in most practical CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) signal environments. The proposed PN acquisition scheme is a single dwell serial PN acquisition system consisting of two stage, that is, the searching stage and the verification stage. The searching stage correlates the received signals with the local PN oscilator for obtaining the synchronous energy at the entire uncertainty region. The verification stage compares the searching energy with the optimal threshold, which is pre-designed in the Lock-Detector, and decides whether the acquisition is successful or fail. In this paper, we analyzed the relationship of both diversity order and the mean acquisition time. In general, It is known that the mean acquisition time decreases significantly as the number of antenna elements increases. But, the enhancement of the performance is saturated in terms of PN acquisition scheme. Therefore, to decrease the mean acquisition time, we must design the optimal array antenna system by considering the operating SNR range of the receiver, the detection probability, and the false alarm probability. The performance of the proposed acquisition scheme is analyzed in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, the effect of the number of antenna elements on acquisition scheme is considered in terms of the detection probability, false alarm probability. and the mean acquisition time.

Multi antenna techniques using space-time codes can achieve diversity gains in a multi-path environment without additional bandwidth requirement. Most of the 4G candidate standards including the IEEE 802.16e adopt multi-input multi-output (MIMO) schemes to achieve either high throughput performance or diversity gains. In these 4G candidate standards, turbo codes using an iterative decoder with soft input soft output are used to overcome serious channel fading. For this reason, the estimated signal values from MIMO detectors should be soft decision detection values. In this paper, we propose efficient methods to estimate soft decision detection values for various space time coding schemes, and provide the simulation results of turbo coded space time coding scheme over an IEEE 802.16e link.

Time-reversal (TR) precoding focuses the energy of the effective channel in time and improves receive performance of a single tap receiver. Frequency-domain equal-gain-combining (FD-EGC) TR scheme, which works in linear block precoding fashion, has better temporal focusing performance than the traditional TR. Also, the FD-EGC improves receive performance of minimum mean square error receiver with distributed antenna systems (DAS). The detailed receive performance of the FD-EGC was analyzed in our previous work. In this paper, we focused on capacity analysis of the FD-EGC in DAS. We derived a scaling law which shows how the use of multiple antenna can increase the capacity of the FD-EGC precoding compared with that of no precoding. In addition, we analyze the secrecy rate of the FD-EGC which shows how high-rate messages can be transmitted towards an intended user without being decoded by the other users from the view point of information theoretic security.

Space-time coding was designed for an efficient transmit diversity technique to improve performance of wireless communication. For the transmit diversity using space-time coding, the receiver requires to estimate channel parameters corresponding to each transmit antennas. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel estimation scheme based on trigonometric polynomial approximation in OFDM systems with transmit diversity using space-time coding. The proposed scheme is more efficient than the conventional scheme in terms of the computational complexity. For QAM modulation, when the size of FFH is 128, the conventional scheme with significant tap caching of 7 requires 9852 complex multiplications for TU, HT and BU channels. But the proposed scheme requires 2560, 7680 and 3584 complex multiplications for TU, HT and BU channels, respectively. Especially, for channels with smaller Doppler frequency and delay spreads, the proposed scheme has the improved BER performance and complexity. In addition, we evaluate the performance of maximum delay spread estimation in unknown channel. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated by computer simulation in various multi-path fading environments.

This paper proposes an efficient scheme to track the time variant channel induced by multi-path Rayleigh fading in mobile wireless Multiple Input Multiple Output-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems with null sub-carriers. In the proposed method, a blind channel response predictor is designed to cope with the time variant channel. The proposed channel tracking scheme consists of a frequency domain estimation approach that is coupled with a Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) time domain estimation method, and does not require any matrix inverse calculation during each OFDM symbol. The main attributes of the proposed scheme are its reduced computational complexity and good tracking performance of channel variations. The simulation results show that the proposed method exhibits superior performance than the conventional channel tracking method [4] in time varying channel environments. At a Doppler frequency of 100Hz and bit error rates (BER) of 10-4, signal-to-noise power ratio (Eb/N0) gains of about 2.5dB are achieved relative to the conventional channel tracking method [4]. At a Doppler frequency of 200Hz, the performance difference between the proposed method and conventional one becomes much larger.

In this paper, an OFDM-CDMA broadband system is considered for a possible candidate of fixed wireless broadband access network applications. With an emphasis on a preamble design for multi-channel separation, we address a channel estimation based on the time-domain windowing and its imperfectness in OFDM-based multiple-antenna transmission systems. By properly designing each preamble for multiple antennas to be orthogonal in the time domain, the channel estimation can be applied to the ETSI HlPERLAN/2 and IEEE-802.11a standards in the case of more than two transmit antennas. Also, an effect of diversity techniques on the performance of OFDM-CDMA based broadband wireless access networks is investigated and the maximum achievable diversity gain for a two-path Rayleigh fading environment is evaluated Simulation results show that the OFDM-CDMA system applying a space-time-frequency diversity with a full-rate full diversity code can give the diversity of D = 4 and D = 8 for both multi-user cases of maximum user and half user capacities, respectively.

Wireless network has high BER characteristic because of path loss, fading, noise and interference. Many packet losses occur without any congestion in wireless network. Therefore, many wireless TCP algorithms have been proposed. SNOOP, one of wireless TCP algorithms, hides packet losses for Fixed Host and retransmits lost packets in wireless network. However, SNOOP has a weakness for bust errors in wireless network. This paper proposes the SACK-SNOOP to improve TCP performance based on SNOOP and Freeze-TCP that use ZWA messages in wireless network. This message makes FH stop sending packets to MH. BS could retransmit error packets to MH for this time. SACK-SNOOP use improved Selective ACK, thereby reducing the number of packet sequences according to error environment. This method reduces the processing time for generation, transmission, analysis of ACK. This time gain is enough to retransmit local burst errors in wireless link. Furthermore, SACK-SNOOP can manage the retransmitted error by extending delay time to FH. The simulation shows that our proposed protocol is more effective for packet losses in wireless networks.

To achieve the required services in the next-generation cellular telephone systems, the size of the cell become smaller and/or is of mixed macrocells and microcells. For more efficient system control, We make use of the mobile position and velocity information, provided that the mobility information is relatively accurate. In this paper, we propose an improved version of path-loss measurement algorithm introduced in literature[11]. The microcellular structure with severe multipath fading, reflection and refraction make mobile position and velocity estimation very difficult. In the proposed method, the pre-recorded path-loss informations, called the discrete position data base, are searched to estimate the position. Velocity estimation is obtained as a difference of the position values with respect to the time difference. Moving average filter is applied to smooth the estimated velocity and to reduce the error in the estimates. We also propose a method to simplify system implementation by reducing search area for discrete area database.

The underwater channel is known to offer poor communications channel. The channel medium is highly absorptive and the transmission bandwidth is limited. In addition, the channel is highly frequency selective; the degree of selectiveness depends on a detailed geometry of the channel. Furthermore, the response changes over time as the channel conditions affecting the response such as water temperature, sea surface wind and salinity are time-varying. The transceiver design to deal with the frequency and time selective channel, therefore, becomes very challenging. It has been known that deep fading at certain specific sub-carriers are detrimental to OFDM systems. To mitigate this negative effect, the proposed coded OFDM system employs an LDPC code based modulation. In this paper, we aim 1) to provide a detailed underwater channel model; 2) to design a robust LDPC coded OFDM system; 3) to test the proposed system under a variety of channel conditions enabled by the channel model.
