  • In this paper, we propose a study related to the development of a Digital-Twin platform using a smart factory based CPPS (Cyber Pysical Production System) using ICT (Information Communication Technology) technology. The platform developed through this study performs a 3D model simulation function in conjunction with P3R (Product, Process, Plant, Resource) including BOP (Bill of Process) management function from the preceding manufacturing process planning stage. In addition, we propose a digital twin platform that can predict production processes, equipment, layout, and production. The platform proposed through this paper proposes a feature that can manage the entire smart factory manufacturing process from the initial planning design stage to the manufacturing, production, operation, and maintenance stages.

  • This paper presents a structure and architecture of an integrated simulation method (ISM) to meet the requirements of virtual factory engineering (VFE). Combining CAD, VR and discrete event simulation techniques, the ISM provides static and dynamic simulation functions for implementation of VFE throughout the lifecycle. The static simulation can be used to evaluate the factory layout. The dynamic simulation enables us to evaluate ergonomics of factory, process performance of production system, feasibility of production plan and operation of factory, and to train operators safely, which cover the whole VFE lifecycle. The principles of the key techniques of VFE, including virtual factory data management system (VFDMS), static and dynamic simulation, are also discussed. To demonstrate and validate the ISM, a case study has been carried out in an assembly factory.

  • The objective of the study is to investigate the distribution patterns of airborne bacteria and fungi in the feedstuff manufacture factory. The mean levels of airborne bacteria and fungi in the feedstuff manufacture factory were $113({\pm}18)cfu/m^3$ and $89({\pm}5)cfu/m^3$ for pelleting process and $198({\pm}5)cfu/m^3$ and $124({\pm}12)cfu/m^3$ for powdering process, respectively. The percentage of respirable and total concentration of airborne bacteria and fungi in the feedstuff manufacture factory ranged from 60% to 90% and were higher in pelleting process than powdering process. The ratio of indoor and outdoor airborne microorganism exceeded 1.0 regardless of types of feedstuff manufacture process. Based on the result of the study, there would be an association between environmental factors such as relative humidity and carbon dioxide and airborne microorganism's bioactivity.

  • This study was carried out to assess worker exposure to vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and to present control measures in the factories processing and producing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin. The conclusion remarks are as follows. Only two personal samples in the factory ("E") processing polyvinyl chloride resin were analysed to be 27.6 ppm and 12.6 ppm, respectively. But, these concentration exceed 1 ppm, Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL) of OSHA. So, worker's exposure to VCM at "E" factory should be reevaluated. In "A", "B" and "C" factory producing polyvinyl chloride resin, the average worker's exposures to VCM were 0.12 ppm, 0.86 ppm and 1.23 ppm, respectivery. Worker exposure to VCM at distillation and dry process was higer than other processes at "A" factory. The average exposure concentration of worker at polymerization process of "B" and "C" factory was 1.23 ppm, and 1.46 ppm respcetively. These concentration exceed 1 ppm, Permissible Exposure Limits of OSHA. Control room of "B" and "C" factory had 0.91 ppm and 0.65 ppm of worker's exposure concentration respectively. "A" factory was evaluated to be "acceptable", but "B" and "C" factories were evaluated to be "not acceptable", by the workplace exposure assessment program of AIHA. Process other than bagging and control room of "A" factory was evaluated to "not acceptable". Immediate correction measures for preventing workers from exposure to VCM should be performed in the factories or process that were evaluated to be "not acceptable". After these control measures are taken, worker exposure to VCM must be reevaluated through personal air monitoring. Control measures presented by this study are complete sealing of connecting pipe lines, flanging, packing, bolting and nutting. Periodic leak test for leak parts is also required. And positive pressure facility should be constructed at control room of "B" and "C" factory. Fresh air through cleaner such as HEPA filter should be supplied to control room. In addition to these control measures, periodic personal monitoring for evaluating worker exposure to VCM should be performed.

  • The marine leisure industry in Korea has been the focus of the power of economic growth and the creation of jobs in recent years. In this regard, many studies concerning marine leisure are on-going in various fields. In this paper, developed a layout system and algorithm can resolve the factory and facility layout problem. For a layout design of leisure-boat factories, the leisure-boat production process is analyzed in order to derive standard production space elements for the layout of the factory. Based on the results, a draft design of the factory layout is carried out based on the manpower planning data, as well as the characteristics and relationships of each process data. A layout design of this paper can be verified through a factory simulation solution and we suggest the verification method using a SBD(simulation based design) methodology. The layout system takes into account the user's accessibility and extendibility, so it is web-oriented and uses RIA (rich Internet Application) technology. Furthermore, the system and layout algorithm of this paper are verified with samples data that show the efficient factory arrangement and practical application method.

  • This study deals with the formation of Jongyeonbangjeok's Gwangju Factory in the 1930's to 80's, and the findings are shown below: In the period of formation, the factory was rectangular-shaped from north to south, and the structure was located at the center of the site, and in the east of it, there was a dormitory connected from south to north. The building was arranged with an open area on the south. In the east of the site where company houses were located, same-sized structures were arranged along the axis.In the period of change, the factory was restored about the damage from the Korean War, and it went through the process of division into two companies. As a result, the factory in the center of the site was divided into left and right ones, and the dormitory and the group of company houses were, too, divided into two, so division was made largely into southern and northern parts. In the period of stabilization, along with factory extension in each of the companies, welfare for factory workers was expanded by building more houses or opening sport facilities. After the 1980's, too, the existing factories were either extended or remodeled according to the induction of equipment, and some showed changes in their functions due to a fire or such.

  • In the field of display, a smart factory means more efficient display manufacturing using AI/BIG DATA technology not only for job automation, but also for existing process management, moving facilities, process abnormalities, and defect classification. In the past, when defects appeared in the display manufacturing process, the classification of defects and coping with process abnormalities were different, a lot of time was consumed for this. However, in the field of display manufacturing, advanced process equipment must be used, and it can be said that the competitiveness of the display manufacturing industry is to quickly identify the cause of defects and increase the yield. In this paper, we will summarize the cases in which smart factory AI/BIG DATA technology is applied to domestic display manufacturing, and analyze what advantages can be derived compared to existing methods. This information can be used as prior knowledge for improved smart factory development in the field of display manufacturing using AI/BIG DATA.

  • Digital twin, which is evaluated as the core of smart factory advancement, is a technology that implements a digital replica in the virtual world with the same properties and functions of assets in the real world. Since the smart factory to which digital twin is applied can support services such as real-time production process monitoring, production process simulation, and predictive maintenance of facilities, it is expected to contribute to reducing production costs and improving productivity. AAS (Asset Administration Shell) is an essential technology for implementing digital twin and supports a method to digitally represent physical assets in real world. In this paper, we design AAS for manufacturing data gathering to be used in real-time CNC (Computer Numerical Control) monitoring system in operation by considering manufacturing facility in smart factory as assets.
