This paper is concerned with the development of optimal algorithms for multi-stage flowshop scheduling problems with sequence dependent setup times. In the previous researches the setup time of a job is considered to be able to begin at the earliest opportunity given a particular sequence at the start of operations. In this paper the setup time of a job is considered to be able to begin only at the completion of that job on the previous machine to reflect the effects of the setup time to the performance measure of sequence dependent setup time flowshop scheduling. The results of the study consist of two areas; first, a general integer programming(IP) model is formulated and a nixed integer linear programming(MILP) model is also formulated by introducing a new binary variable. Second a depth-first branch and bound algorithm is developed. To reduce the computational burdens we use the best heuristic schedule developed by Choi(1989) as the first trial. The experiments for developed algorithm are designed for a 4$\times$3$\times$3 factorial design with 360 observations. The experimental factors are PS(ratio of processing time to setup time), M(number of machines), N(number of jobs).

At present, industry and researchers are looking for ways to reduce the use of lubricants because of ecological and economical reasons. Therefore, metal cutting is to move toward dry cutting or semi-dry cutting. One of the technologies is known as MQL(Minimum Quantity Lubrication) machining. This research presents an investigation into MQL machining with the objective of deriving the optimum cutting conditions for the turning process of SM4SC. To reach these goals several finish turning experiments were carried out, varying cutting speed, feed rate, oil quantity and so on, with MQL and flood coolant. The surface roughness and cutting force results of tests were measured and the effects of cutting conditions were analyzed by the method of Analysis of Variance(ANOVA). From the experimental results and ANOVA, this research proposed optimal cutting conditions to improve the machinability in MQL turning process.
Since the neural network was introduced, significant progress has been made on data handling and learning algorithms. Currently, the most popular learning algorithm in neural network training is feed forward error back-propagation (FFEBP) algorithm. Aside from the success of the FFEBP algorithm, polynomial neural networks (PNN) learning has been proposed as a new learning method. The PNN learning is a self-organizing process designed to determine an appropriate set of Ivakhnenko polynomials that allow the activation of many neurons to achieve a desired state of activation that mimics a given set of sampled patterns. These neurons are interconnected in such a way that the knowledge is stored in Ivakhnenko coefficients. In this paper, the PNN model has been developed using the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) experimental data. To characterize the PECVD process using PNN, SiO$_2$films deposited under varying conditions were analyzed using fractional factorial experimental design with three center points. Parameters varied in these experiments included substrate temperature, pressure, RF power, silane flow rate and nitrous oxide flow rate. Approximately five microns of SiO$_2$were deposited on (100) silicon wafers in a Plasma-Therm 700 series PECVD system at 13.56 MHz.

Flexibly-reconfigurable roll forming (FRRF) is a novel sheet metal forming technology conducive to produce multi-curvature surfaces by controlling strain distribution along longitudinal direction. Reconfigurable rollers could be arranged to implement a kind of punch die set. By utilizing these reconfigurable rollers, desired curved surface can be formed. In FRRF process, three-dimensional surface is formed from two-dimensional curve. Thus, it is difficult to predict the forming result. In this study, a regression analysis was suggested to construct a predictive model for a longitudinal curvature of FRRF process. To facilitate investigation, input parameters affecting the longitudinal curvature of FRRF were determined as maximum compression value, curvature radius in the transverse direction, and initial blank width. Three-factor three-level full factorial experimental design was utilized and 27 experiments using FRRF apparatus were performed to obtain sample data of the regression model. Regression analysis was carried out using experimental results as sample data. The model used for regression analysis was a quadratic nonlinear regression model. Determination factor and root mean square root error were calculated to confirm the conformity of this model. Through goodness of fit test, this regression predictive model was verified.

Cooling lubricants are used in machining operations in order to reduce friction at the tool-chip and tool-workpiece interfaces, cool both chip and tool, and remove chip. Furthermore, they influence a strong effect on the shearing mechanisms and, consequently, on the machined surface quality and tool wear. However, several researchers state that the costs related to cutting fluids is frequently higher than those related to cutting tools. Moreover, the cooling lubricants cause an increase in both worker's health and social problems related to their use and correct disposal. Therefore, many researchers have focused on the environmentally conscious machining technologies. One of the technologies is known as MQL(Minimum Quantity Lubrication) machining. In this paper, an experimental model to obtain the optimal cutting conditions in MQL turning was suggested, and the effects of cutting conditions on surface roughness and cutting force were analyzed. For these purposes, FFD (Fractional Factorial Design) and RSM (Response Surface Methods) were used for the experiment. Cutting force and surface roughness with different cutting conditions were measured through the external cylindrical turning of Al 6061 based on the experiment plan. The measured data were analyzed by regression analysis and verification experiments with random conditions were conducted to confirm the suggested experimental model.
This study is intended to empirically investigate how Korean consumers evaluate foreign CSRs conducted by Korean firms. Specifically, the study investigates the effects of domestic vs. foreign CSR targets & domestic vs. global NGO affiliations by employing a two-way 2-by-2 factorial design. Field experiments were carried out with adult consumers in Seoul aged over 25. Our findings, first, suggest that Korean consumers perceive domestic CSRs more positively than foreign CSRs. But Korean consumers were found to respond more positively to foreign CSRs when the focal firm was perceived as a global firm. As regards to NGO affiliations, the study found that consumers were partially favorable towards domestic NGOs. However, interestingly, foreign CSRs with domestic NGOs were perceived more favorably than foreign CSRs with foreign NGOs.

The inequitable flow distribution to flocculation basins is an important problem faced in many water treatment plants. This is caused by the structure of a distribution channel, the height differences of outlet weirs etc. But, a modified approach for the structures has no effectiveness to achieve flow equality. The aim of this study is to reduce the inequality by adopting optimized inlet valve opening (%) of the flocculation basins using DOE (Design of Experiments) and RSA (Response Surface Analysis). The inlet valve openings (%) and inflow distributions (%) of 6 paralleled basins were set as factors (X) and characteristics(Y) respectively. 2 level factorial experiments and RSA were conducted for optimization and regression analysis (Y = f(X) + Const.). Adopting the optimized inlet valve opening (%) at field, standard deviation of flow distribution (%) and effluent turbidity was declined from 3.80% to 0.42% and from 0.29 NTU to 0.03 NTU respectively.

Today, the principles of green chemistry are being fundamentally applied in the chemical industry, such as the nitrobenzene industry, which is an essential intermediate for various commercial products. Research on the application of response surface methodology (RSM) to optimize nitrobenzene synthesis was conducted using a sulfated silica (SO4/SiO2) catalyst and batch microwave reactor. The nitrobenzene synthesis process was carried out according to RSM using a central composite design (CCD) design for three independent variables, consisting of sulfuric acid concentration on the silica (%), stirring time (min), and reaction temperature (℃), and the response variable of nitrobenzene yield (%). The results showed that a three-factorial design using the response surface method could determine the optimum conditions for obtaining nitrobenzene products in a batch microwave reactor. The optimum condition for a nitrobenzene yield of 63.38 % can be obtained at a sulfuric acid concentration on the silica of 91.20 %, stirring time of 140.45 min, and reaction temperature of 58.14 ℃. From the 20 experiments conducted, the SO4/SiO2 catalyst showed a selectivity of 100 %, which means that this solid acid catalyst can potentially work well in converting benzene to nitrobenzene.

NIL (nanoimprint lithography) technique has demonstrated a high potential for wafer size definition of nanometer as well as micrometer size patterns. During the replication process by NIL, the stiction between the stamp and the polymer is one of major problems. This stiction problem is moi·e important in small sized patterns. An antistiction layer prevents this stiction ana insures a clean demolding process. In this paper, we were using a TCP (transfer coupled plasma) equipment and $C_4F_8$ as a precursor to make a Teflon-like antistiction layer. This antistiction layer was deposited on a 6 inch silicon wafer to have nanometer scale thicknesses. The thickness of deposited antistiction layer was measured by ellipsometry. To optimize the process factor such as table height (TH), substrate temperature (ST), working pressure (WP) and plasma power (PP), we were using a design of experimental (DOE) method. The table of full factorial arrays was set by the 4 factors and 2 levels. Using this table, experiments were organized to achieve 2 responses such as deposition rate and non-uniformity. It was investigated that the main effects and interaction effects between parameters. Deposition rate was in proportion to table height, working pressure and plasma power. Non-uniformity was in proportion to substrate temperature and working pressure. Using a response optimization, we were able to get the optimized deposition condition at desired deposition rate and an experimental deposition rate showed similar results.

Determination of ultrasonic frequency and experimental design approach to optimization of ultrasonic soil-washing process for remediation of diesel contaminated soil were investigated. Ultrasonic frequencies of 35, 72, and 100 kHz were used for determination of optimal frequency. $MINITAB^{(R)}$ program was used for experimental design of optimal washing condition. The optimal ultrasonic frequency was 35 kHz. Even though the number of cavitation bubble is little, however cavitation bubbles involving larger energy compared with high frequency was generated. Therefore, the removal efficiency at low frequency was higher than at high frequency. However the input energy has to be considered when the process is applied. The statistical tests from a factorial experiment shows that the application of ultrasound and mechanical mixing are the most important factor for design of an ultrasonic soil washing process. The lab-scale experiments are required to get the optimal condition of ultrasound and mechanical mixing for application of ultrasonic soil washing process.
