  • CJ-50001 is a recombinant granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (rG-CSF) synthesized by recombi-nant DNA technology using E. coli as an expression system. The general pharmacological properties of CJ-50001 were evaluated in mice, rats, dogs and isolated guinea pig ileum. The doses are 100, 300 and 1, 0007g/kg, i.v. for mice and rats, 1, 10 and 100$\mu$g/kg, 1.v. for dogs and 1 and 10$\mu$g/ml for isolated guinea pig ileum. Intravenous administration of CJ-50001 at this dose range did not affect general behavior, central nervous system, smooth muscles, gastrointestinal system, cardiovascular and respiratory system and water and electro-lytes excretion. In summary, CJ-50001 had no harmful pharmacological erect in these studies even up to the 200-fold expected clinical dose, 2507g/man.

  • A new improved PCR method has been developed for the rapid, reliable, and sensitive detection of Venturia nashicola, a destructive pathogen of scab disease in Japanese pear. The translation elongation factor-1 alpha gene-derived PCR primers specifically amplified a 257-bp-sized DNA band of the target gene from the genomic DNA of V. nashicola. No amplicon was produced from the genomic DNA of other Venturia spp. and reference fungal species tested. With the high detection limit of 10 fg DNA content, our real-time method could be used for the quarantine inspection and field monitoring of V. nashicola.

  • In this article, a reduction method for nominal variables is presented and its use illustrated. Factor analysis model (FAM) generally enables us to reduce variables having interval or ratio scale based on their correlation coefficients. We developed an extensive method that makes FAM applicative to the case of nominal variables which does not give correlation coefficients, but only the degree of association. Cramer's V coefficient is a well-established measure that provides the strength of association for nominal variables with a range of [0,1]. When Cramer's V coefficient can logically substitute for correlation coefficient, FAM would be extensively used for reduction of nominal variables.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the Daily Hassles Scale for children in Korea. The subject were 444 children of 184 fourth graders and 260 sixth graders selected form five elementary schools in Seoul(217 male and 227 female). A questionnaire consisting of 90-item daily hassles scale, demographic questions, and some additional questions was used as a methodological instrument. statistics used for data analysis were X2, cramer's V, factor analysis, multi-regression, Pearson's r, Cronbach's α. The major findings of this study were as follows. 1) 87 items of the 90-item scale were acceptible through item discriminant method. The discriminant coefficients of the items(Cramer's V) ranged form .28 to .73. 2) 6 factors(parents, home environment, friends, studies, teachers & school, the surroundings) were extracted from factor analysis. Multi-regression analysis conducted to reduce the length of scale have drawed 42 items for 'the Daily Hassles Scale for Children in Korea'. The correlation between this scale and the Quality of Life Scale(Olson & Barnes, 1982) was conducted to test the criterion-related validity, and the coefficient was significant(r=-.52, p<.001).3) Finally, reliability coefficients(Cronbach'α) of this scale was. 85.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop 「the Self-Esteem Inventory」(SEI). The 2,451 subjects were selected randomly from 4, 5 and 6th grades of elementary schools and the first and second grades of middle schools in the city to Taegu. Factor analysis, Pearson's r, Cramer's V, and Cronbach's αwere conducted for the statistical analysis. It was found that (1) Factor analysis showed that SEI consisted of 4 factors (global, social-peers, home-parents, and school-academics), (2) The discriminant coefficients of the items (Cramer's V)ranged from 0.25 to 0.71, (3) The reliability coefficients of the scale (Cronbach's α) ranged from 0.69 to 0.84, and (4) The correlation coeffcients of the SEI with RSES and CSEI ranged from 0.47 to 0.78.

  • An analysis of mean procedure is presented for testing the significance of two factor interactions for unbalanced case. When at least one factor if at only two levels, the technique is the same as that of Ott(1967) and Nelson(1988) except that we have used the critical value by using the Sidak's multiplicative inequality. The technique can be extended to the case in which both factors more than two levels. Tables of critical values g($\alpha ; (p, q) ; v$) are given for $\alpha$=0.05 and 0.01 ; (p, q) combinations satisfying $3 \leq p \leq q \leq 5$ ; and various degrees of freedom v. We present and prove the formula of the variance of the interactions for the n-way model.

  • In this paper, minimal balanced $2^t$ fractional factorial designs which permit the estimation of main effects and 2-factor interactions are developed by using a partially balanced array. Such designs are characterized by a minimum number of runs and some balancedness property of the variance-covariance matrix of the estimates. In addition to describing the designs, optimality criteria are discussed and the trace-optimal designs are presented. The proposed designs are especially useful in Taguchi method, where we need to investigate up to 2-factor interactions of the control factors.

  • Current-voltage (I-V) measurements of crystalline silicon solar cells was conducted under dark conditions with the temperature range of 260 K~350 K. Using the calculation method, we extracted the crucial factors of ideality factor (n) and activation energy (Ea) to investigate the carrier conducting path in the space charge region (SCR) and the quasi-neutral region (QNR). Values of n were decreased with increasing temperature in both SCR and QNR. We also conformed that the value of Ea of SCR was larger than that of QNR about 0.4 eV. The temperature dependence of n indicates that the carrier conducting path is dominated by carrier recombination-generation in the SCR region than in the QNR region.

  • This study presents a single-phase power factor correction AC-DC converter that operates in discontinuous conduction mode. This converter uses the pulse-width modulation technique to achieve almost unity power factor and low total harmonic distortion of input current for universal input voltage $90V_{rms}$ to $264V_{rms}$) applications. The converter has a simple structure and electrical isolation. The magnetizing-inductor energy of the transformer can be recycled to the output without an additional third winding. The steady-state analysis of voltage gain and boundary operating conditions are discussed in detail. Finally, experimental results are shown to verify the performance of the proposed converter.
