  • (-)-${\alpha}$-narcotine( 1 R.9S) is one of the major bases in Papaver somniferum L.. the sourse plant for opium. while (-)-${\beta}$-narcotine(1R.9R) is a synthetic phthalideisoquinoline alkaloid. Although some advanced methods for the preparation of $\alpha$-narcotine have been developed using modified Bischler-Napieralski cyclization. the facile synthesis of $\beta$-narcotine has not further been attempted. supposingly because of its no clinical efficacy contrary to $\alpha$-narcotine having an antitussive effect. • A facile and efficient synthesis of dronedarone hydrochloride starting from commercially available 4-nitrophenol is described. This approach features a tandem-type synthesis of 3-carbonylated benzofuran involving cyclization of 2-ethynylphenol followed by $CO_2$ fixation at the 3-position of the benzofuran ring mediated by potassium carbonate without the addition of any transition metal catalyst.

  • Facile methods are reported for the synthesis of optically pure derivatives of (2S,3R)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-4-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)b utanoic acid. To avoid troublesome synthesis of O-benzyl-N-Boc-D-tyrosine, without the protection of phenolic OH group of tyrosine N-Boc-D-tyrosine methyl ester was reduced with DiBAL to the aldehyde. The aldehyde was converted via the cyanohydrin to (2S,3R)-3-amino-2-hydroxy-4-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)butanoic acid (AHpHBA). The mixture of diastereomers was converted to the corresponding Boc-AHpHBA methyl ester derivatives and separated by chromatography over silica gel. Optically active (2S,3R)-AHpHBA was used to synthesize aminopeptidase inhibitors.

  • Recently, synthesis of low-dimensional nanostructures is gaining more importance due to their structural properties and growing potential applications. On the other hand, luminescent materials doped with rare earth ions have drawn immense attention. The commercial phosphors are based on many host materials. Among them, tungstates are being currently investigated by many research groups owing to a wide range of applications. Tungstates are formed by different metal cations (e.g., SrWO4, Na2WO4, NiWO4, Cr2WO6, and ZrW2O8) and their structure depends on the size of the metal cation. Tungstates with large bivalent cations (${\gg}0.1\;nm$) have the scheelite structure and the wolframite structure with smaller ions (<0.1 nm). Strontium tungstate has the scheelite structure which is tetragonal with space group I41/a. The luminescent properties of the tungstate have been extensively explored in application fields such as sensors, detectors, lasers, photoluminiscent devices, photo catalysts, etc. In this work, we synthesized SrWO4 phosphors with different Eu3+ concentrations by using a facile route. The morphology was analyzed by using a field-emission scanning electron microscope, which exhibits the spherical shape. Transmission electron microscope image revealed the spheres composed of nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction patterns confirmed their tetragonal shape. The photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra were analyzed by varying the Eu3+ concentration, which shows a dominant red emission.

  • We demonstrate a facile route to synthesize silver chloride nanocubes and derivative nanomaterials. For the synthesis of silver chloride nanocubes, silver nitrate and hydrochloric acid were used as precursors in ethylene glycol, and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) as a surfactant. Molar ratio of the two precursors greatly influenced the morphology and composition of the final products. As-synthesized silver chloride nanocubes showed size-dependent optical properties in the visible region of light, which is likely due to a small amount of silver clusters formed on the surface of silver chloride nanocubes. Moreover, we show for the first time that simple reduction of silver chloride nanocubes with different reducing reagents leads to the formation of delicate nanostructures such as cube-shaped silver-nanoparticle aggregates, and silver chloride nanocubes with truncated corners and with silver-nanograin decorated corners. Additionally, we quantitatively investigated for the first time the evolution of silver chloride nanocubes to silver chloride nanocubes decorated with silver nanoparticles upon exposure to e-beam. Our novel and facile synthesis of silver chloride related nanoparticles with delicately controlled morphologies could be an important basis for fabricating efficient photocatalysts and antibacterial materials.
