Objective : This study was performed to examine the patterns of skin disease in patients that had visited Dept. of Dermatology Hospital of Oriental Medicine, Dongguk University. We also compared on disease, age and treatment. Methods : We analysed statistic study in 505 patients, who had visited to our hospital from July, 2005 to February, 2007. Results : The results were as follows; 1. Distribution of dermatology classification was 40.6%, males were 41 % and females were 59%. 2. Distribution of aging was 18.2% in 0-9 years old and 18.8% in 10-19 years old and 17.4% in 20-29 years old. 3. Common disease group were Atopic dermatitis (24.55%); Acne (10.89%); Eczema (10.89%); Urticaria (10.30%). 4. Distribution of treatment according to diagnosis were external preparation in atopic dermatitis, acne, eczema, dermatitis seborrheica ; herbal-medication in urticaria ; herbal-medication and external preparation in facial redness. 5. Distribution of treatment according to aging were external preparation in all group except 50-59 years old; acupuncture treatment in 20-29 years old; herbal-medication in 10-19 years old; consultation in 70-79 years old. Conclusion : This study suggests that oriental medical treatments is popular in dermatologic diseases, especially atopic dermatitis and acne. We have to take steps for effective management and treatment for special diseases and ages.

A 12-year-old, female, Maltese dog was presented with otic signs, such as pruritus and malordorous discharge. Medical treatment of otitis externa had been carried out for several months at primary animal hospital. Radiography, ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), fine needle aspiration (FNA), and histopathological examination were performed for the diagnosis of ceruminous gland adenocarcinoma. Total ear canal ablation and lateral bulla osteotomy were performed for excision of the tumor. Facial nerve paralysis developed after surgery is getting better through the acupuncture therapy.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the past history of the patients with peripheral type nerve palalysis. Methods: We examined the age, sex, region, month, season, past disease and cause of 692(343 male, 349 female) patients with peripheral type nerve palalysis who visited Dept. of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Bundang Oriental Medicine Hospital, Dongguk University, from 2001-10-1 to 2004-9-30. Results: 420 patiens(60.7$\%$) were in the age between 30-59. The region, sex, and seasonal distribution didn't have a remarkable contrasts. In the past disease, Hypertension(14.5$\%$), Diabets mellitus(9.2$\%$), Gastric diseases(3.9$\%$) and Live diseases(3.8$\%$) were investigated highly than other diseases. In the distribution of cause, fatigue(36.3$\%$), unknown(34.8$\%$), stress(19.2$\%$) cold exposure(12.1$\%$) were investigated highly than other causes.

This article discusses the diagnosis, anatomic consideration, and surgical management of masseter muscle hypertrophy. Surgical correction is advised for patients who have esthetic complaints. Esthetic improvement can be achieved by surgery and not by conservative treatment. Recently, the intraoral method, which leaves no scar on the face and minimizes the possibility of injury to the marginal branch of the facial nerve, has been supported by many surgeons. Patients who complained of marked swelling of unilateral or bilateral mandibular angle area and showed abnormal bony growth at the mandibular angle area and enlarged masseter muscle received mandibular angle shaving and excision of the inner layer of masseter muscle with intraoral approach. After operation, physiotherapy was done with EAST(eletrical acupuncture stimulation therapy) for encouraging the mouth opening and reducing the swelling. They showed early maximum mouth opening and reduction of swelling.

Objective: This study presents a case of a 64-year-old Korean male with left-side hemifacial anhidrosis due to stroke who was treated with traditional Korean medical treatments.Method: The patient was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and moxibustion around the eyes, and was administered Chungpyesagan-tang and Yuldahanso-tang. We performed a sweat percentage test and compared the results with those of the other side of the face to evaluate sweat dysfunction.Results: Sweat function appeared to improve after the administration of traditional Korean medical treatments.Conclusion: Traditional Korean medical treatments may be effective in treating hemifacial anhidrosis due to stroke.

Objective : To search the trend of studying thread-embedding therapy in Korean medicine academia up to now and to expand the range of using thread-embedding therapy in the future, this study was designed. Methods : Using search portal sites the following; http://oasis.kiom.re.kr, http://www.riss.re.kr, collected 37 articles and devided those three parts and classificated those into four subsection as follows; total analysis, original article, case report. Results : The number of articles are 8 review articles, 14 original articles, 15 case reports. In the year 2013, 14 articles were published and ranked highest(37.8%). The journal of acupuncture & moxibustion medicine society ranked highest(40.5%). 5 persons ranked highest(32.4%) in number of author. Facial beauty care ranked highest(21.6%) in clssification of disease. Remedy item ranked highest(50.0%) in classification of subjects of 8 review articles. No more than 25 persons ranked highest(66.7%) and 6~12months of treatment period ranked highest(33.3%) in 14 original articles. Conclusions : Thread-embedding therapy is considered very useful on various part of Korean medicine clinic. We need to expand application scope of thread-embedding therapy in the future.

Oculomotor nerve palsy causes ptosis, limitation of eye movement, diplopia, and facial pain. Despite imaging investigation, the cause of the palsy cannot be established in most cases. We treated a patient with idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and Korean medical physical therapy. In this case, the symptoms remarkably improved after 28 days of treatment. This case report suggests that traditional Korean medicine is effective in treating ptosis and limitation of eye movement diagnosed as idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy.

Objective The case report showed that sudden hearing loss and tinnitus after trigeminal schwannoma surgery were improved with Yeoldahansotang-gamibang. Method The patient was diagnosed with Taeeumin interior heat (Ganyeol) disease based on the original symptoms of Taeeumin. He was treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture treatment. Puretone audiometry (PTA), speech audiometry, tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) and the original symptoms were investigated before and after the treatment. Results Right side PTA score was significantly reduced, speech audiometry was improved in speech reception threshold (SRT), word recognition score (WRS) and most comfortable level (MCL) and THI score decreased from 40 to 0, which showed normalizing hearing function. And the patient revealed improvements in sleeping, digestion, stooling, perspiration and facial sensation after treatment. Conclusion This study suggests that Yeoldahansotang-gamibang is effective on sudden hearing loss and tinnitus after surgery by correcting the imbalanced energy of Taeeumin.

Objectives: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an easily recurrent inflammatory skin disease. Since AD has complex pathology, people have been investigating it on different aspects with various experimental models. One of them is in vivo model which has spontaneously developed AD-like skin lesions by various inducers. Methods: In this study, two kinds of mouse species were applied in the experiment; BALB/c and C57BL/6 mice. We compared features among the animal species making AD mouse model with protein allergen, ovalbumin. AD-like skin lesions were induced by ovalbumin on two kinds of scheme and were evaluated with the histological results and size of spleen which is a critical immunological organ. Also, we measured the level of immunoglobulin E in serum. In addition, we investigated the results of ovalbumin induced-AD-like skin lesions along with obesity. Results and Conclusion: We evaluated weight of organs and thickness of epidermis. These results suggest the possibility of the appropriate in vivo experimental model for AD or the comorbidity with obesity.
