  • Extraction of fabrication documents is very important because it provides information related to tasks of fabrication and construction. Therefore, in the case of a prefabricated member such as a steel structure, it is necessary to improve the productivity of fabrication documents through 3D BIM. However, research and evidence data on direct comparison analysis of 3D BIM-based documents extraction versus 2D CAD-based documents extraction are hard to find. Thus, this study focuses on productivity analysis of 3D BIM based fabrication documents extraction. In this study, the productivity data of fabrication documents extraction for module construction of EPC project was analyzed. For the productivity analysis, a case study on the fabrication documents of Module A (1,965 sheets) and Module B (1,216 sheets) was conducted. Fabrication documents for each module include general arrangement drawing, assembly drawing, single part drawing and single plate drawing. Comparison of 2D CAD based fabrication documents extraction and 3D BIM based fabrication documents extraction, the productivity for the entire work was improved from 17 hours to 16 hours for Module A and 12 hours to 7 hours for Module B. Especially, the productivity of the assembly drawings, which occupies a large part of the fabrication documents, was improved by about 48.75% from the total time required from 281 hours to 144 hours.

  • WPS/PQR is the essential documents for shipbuilding welding. WPS is the document containing the information related to welding procedure and PQR is the record of approval for welding procedure. Both documents should be approved by the ship owners and the classification societies. It is very important to manage these documents because the welding procedure using these documents could not be carried out before they are approved. Database is an useful tool to manage these documents. It can manage a number of documents and show the processing status of WPS/PQR documents. In this study, all documents related to WPS/PQR documents were investigated and analyzed in the viewpoint of DB. An appropriate DB system was designed for WPS/PQR and the related documents on the basis of CBD methodology. The DB system could make WPS/PQR documents easily and shortly. The grasp of the processing status of WPS/ PQR could help the good management of fabrication schedule in shipbuilding.

  • Current codes of practice do not exist in isolation, and rules that have been developed assume certain material properties and minimum workmanship in fabrication and erection. These are either in separate documents or different parts of the code. This paper explains the main requirements for materials and workmanship and how they can be related to design and construction in general. The use of very high strength steels is also considered and the measures that may be needed to allow their use with modern codes are also presented.

  • The cladding area of HANARO Research Reactor fuel rods should be checked not to have any defects larger than the size required at QA documents by using eddy torrent testing method doting fabrication process. To apply eddy current testing inspection to the fuel rods, encircling differential probes and standard specimen were designed and fabricated. The impedance of the fabricated probes was measured with impedance analyzer in order to cheek that the probe has a suitable impedance for the inspection frequency, and with this probe and MIZ-40A eddy current equipment, the detectability of this probes was investigated. The developed probes could detect artificial notch with 2mm length 10% depth of cladding thickness in cladding area. In addition, the probe was successfully applied to detect the defects in cladding area doting fabrication of the research reactor rods.

  • In the building construction, the steel-frame work occupies an important position in terms of structure, cost and quality. Especially in Japan, steel frames have traditionally been the main structure of many buildings. For steel-frame works in such positions, this paper investigates an existing steel fabricator to clarify the actual conditions of design decision making process and management method in steel production process. This study focuses on a steel fabricator (Company M in the following sentences), whose main market is Japan and which has facilities in Thailand, China, and Japan. Company M uses QR codes to control the production status of products, and exchanges all information between inside and outside the company via specialized departments in the form of documents. The authors have already analyzed the relationship between production lead time and defect rate based on actual project data at Architectural Institute of Japan in 2016. In 2019, we expressed the process from the confirmation of the design information of the current steel frame to the production by WBS, and clarified the relationship between the production lead time and steel frame product quality structurally. In this paper, the authors reoport the progress of the survey conducted so far, the positioning of the collected data, and the future survey policy.

  • The grade of East Asian architecture is generally classified by the size, the shape of the roof, and the type of bracket set. The craftsmanship of columns, beam, purlin, stylobate, column base stone and paintwork is also a contributing factor for such classifications. These classifications can be found not only in historical documents such as 「Oksajo(屋舍條)」 of 『Samguksagi(三國史記)』 but also in 「house details regulations of residential architecture(家舍規制)」 of Joseon Dynasty. However, there are differences in detailed designs among the same grade of architecture regardless of the classification. In this research, the Palace, the Royal Residence(宮家), and the Jaesil(齋室) are considered as the Palatial Buildings and Royal Residences. And the advanced architectural o details which appear only in the Royal Architectures are defined as the 'The Architectural Crafts as a Code of Manners'. The Architectural Crafts as a Code of Manners is detailed design, which can be seen as fabrication of materials and supplementary factors. The Architectural Crafts as a Code of Manners used in the Palatial Buildings and Royal Residences reveal the types and their historical changes. This research will present a basis for the repair and restoration of cultural heritages to be carried out in the future, and also prevent them from further damages, thus help to preserve the cultural heritages.

  • This study has researched the characteristics and elements of Chwibyeong (翠屛), a sort of trellis in the Joseon Dynasty through the old documents, and the original form of Chwibyeong at Juhapru (宙合樓) in Changdeuk Palace. The results were as follow. First, as the result of literatures analysis for Imwon-gyeongje-ji (林園經濟志) and Jeungbo-sallim-gyeongje (增補山林經濟), the plant screen was classified as kinds of support[frame] material, plants and methods of planting. It was found that the supports of Chwibyeong were made of bamboo or the material such as the Jinjangmok (眞長木: a stick of oak) and Giryu (杞柳: Salix purpurea var. japonica). The evergreen coniferous trees including Pinus densiflora, Taxus cuspidata and Thuja orientalis were mainly used for the plant material of Chwibyeong. The general planting method of Chwibyeong was to plant on the ground, but sometimes the container planting was also found on the artificial ground. Second, the term of 'Chwibyeong' in the literatures was used in only the screen made by evergreen trees, and the superordinate category term of it was indicated by 'byeong (屛)'. Therefore Chwibyeong was a compound word formed from 'chwi (翠)' which means the characteristics of evergreen and 'byeong' as tree screen which the support was made by bamboo. And Chwibyeong had semantic context which was combined with the literary symbolization to describe a landscape of green peak and Taoist ideology be inherent from 'twelve peaks of Musan[巫山十二峰]' in Sichuan sheng (四川省). Thirdly, the photograph of Chwibyeong at Juhapru taken by the 1880s, showed that Chwibyeong was made with coniferous trees and was almost 2 meters high. The Chwibyeong at Juhapru was removed during the Japanese colonial era, but a few yew trees(Taxus cuspidata) used for Chwibyeong are still remaining. And some Juniperus chinensis which the composition time is unclear, were cultivated while hung loose its branchs at the sides of Eosumun (魚水門). This Junipers were presumed to be planted by Japanese after Japanese annexation of Korea(1910), and it was judged that both of the roofs of Eosumun's side gates might have been transformed into Japanese style at the same time. Lastly, Chwibyeong at Juhapru was restored in 2008 but it was restored in wrong way from original form without precise research. Especially Chwibyeong was restored with Sasa boreralis which is damaged by frost, so it requires exertion that should revive the originals to plant original material as much as possible. And it needs the development of fabrication technique for Chwibyeong and the application to current landscape architecture.
