  • 8 Wall specimens (1/2 scaled) used welded wire fabric (Ф=6mm) and ordinary deformed reinforcement(D6) of which their ultimate tensile strength were almost same were tested to investigate the inplane-flexural behavior. Test results show that : 1. The wall strength with welded wire fabric was 20% less than that with deformed bar. 2. The wall ductility ratio of welded wire fabric was 1/3 times than that of deformed bar, approximately. 3. It is recommened that lap splice of welded sire fabric should be avoided in critical fracture zone.

  • This research is undertaken to the flexural strength, failure mode and ductile capacity of one way concrete slabs, with without splices, reinforcement with Wire-Fabric. Test results are as fallows : (1) Crack of the simple slabs is occured at a position of transerve wire and sntirely crack interval of the fixed slabs is taken place about 20cm, (2)Maximum load of slab with splices has showed almost similar to that of slab without splices, but ductile capacity increased according to rising of splices, (3) Ductile capacity of slab with Deformed Bar is higher 1.44 times than that of slab with Wire-Fabric, and it is higher 3.74 times than that of slab with Loop-wire fabric, but that of specimens of using Wire-Fabric is average 4.6.

  • A numerical investigation of the impact of steel ductility on the strength and ductility of two-way corner and edge-supported concrete slabs containing low ductility welded wire fabric is presented. A finite element model was developed for the investigation and the results of a series of concurrent laboratory experiments were used to validate the numerical solution. A parametric investigation was conducted using the numerical model to investigate the various factors that influence the structural behavior at the strength limit state. Different values of steel uniform elongation and ultimate to yield strength ratios were considered. The results are presented and evaluated, with emphasis on the strength, ductility, and failure mode of the slabs. It was found that the ductility of the flexural reinforcement has a significant impact on the ultimate load behavior of two-way corner-supported slabs, particularly when the reinforcement was in the form of cold drawn welded wire fabric. However, the impact of the low ductility WWF has showed to be less prominent in structural slabs with higher levels of structural indeterminacy. The load-deflection curves of corner-supported slabs containing low ductility WWF are brittle, and the slabs have little ability to undergo plastic deformation at peak load.

  • In these day, there have been shortage of construction workers and an increase of labor cost in our county. In order to overcome these problems, prefabricated and mechanized system of bar placing have been used in the construction fields. As a part of this tendency, welded wire fabric(WWF) reinforcement were studied several years ago. In this study, the required working hour. the labor power and the construction process of WWF reinforcement for the apartment building slabs are reported. From the result of field investigations, it is showed that the WWF reinforcement facilitates the field placing and the working time of WWF placing is saved, and then the labor cost of WWF reinforcement is less than that of the conventional bar reinforcement.

  • The main objectives of this research work are to develop conductive glass fiber woven roving and carbon fiber unidirectional fabric composite materials and to determine their electromagnetic shielding effectiveness(EMSE). Epoxy is the matrix phase and glass, carbon fiber are the reinforcement phase of the composite material. Carbon black are incorporated as conductive fillers to provide the electromagnetic shielding properties of the composite material. The amount of carbon black in the composite material is varied by changing the carbon black composition, woven roving and unidirectional (fabric) structure. The EMSE of various fabric composites is measured in the frequency range from 300MHz to 800MHz. The variations of EMSE of woven roving and unidirectional composites with fabric structure, metal powder composite are described. Suitability of conductive fabric composites for electromagnetic shielding applications is also discussed.

  • Three-dimensional formability of the thermoplastic laminar composite was studied according to manufacturing conditions. Five different types of the plain weave fabric were used as reinforcement with PET matrix. The square blank was made by press consolidation technique and formed in the type hemisphere. B-factor defined as the ratio of width of yarn and distance between yarns was used as the factor of formability in the type of plain weave fabric. The formability of PET/Glass fabric laminar composite was estimated in terms of forming rate and B-factor with the thickness distribution, area ratio of blank, and intra-ply shear angle. The thickness distribution across hemisphere was strongly affected by the B-factor, forming rate and blank thickness. The area ratio of blank was increased with B-factor, forming rate and blank thickness. Also, it was found that the intra-ply shear angle depends on the B-factor and forming rate.

  • Current dental restorations present a relatively weak resistance to fracture. Owing to their unique mechanical properties, fibre-reinforced polymers are now being considered. Unidirectional or woven continuous fibres, made of glass, polyethylene, carbon or Kevlar, have been evaluated. This study focused on the use of glass fibre knitted fabrics to reinforce acrylate resins, in order to investigate the possibility to construct single crowns as well as three unit bridges. Some points affecting the final composite system were tested ; 1) static strength, with focus on the stress transfer under a occlusal contact point ; 2) modelling of a three nit bridge ; 3) fatigue strength as a posterior three unit bridge material. The study demonstrated that knitted fabric reinforcements are showing an interesting compromise between stiffness, static strength for single crown. For three unit bridge applications in the posterior arch, however knitted glass fabric reinforcements were not strong enough in fatigue An additional reinforcement in the posterior arch fixed partial denture design was recommended.

  • Meta-aramid fabric has been widely used as the reinforcement of composites due to its high flame resistance and tearing strength. Functionality such as abrasion resistance of fabric is very important for specialty fabrics used in car racing suits. In this study, to improve abrasion resistance property of meta-aramid fabric, silicon deposition was conducted by utilizing RF magnetron sputtering. The sputtering process parameters effects were investigated as sputtering power and substrate temperature. The obtained results suggest that the silicon deposition on the meta-aramid fabric has obvious effect upon increasing the abrasion resistance, the thermal insulation and the electric resistance condition for silicon deposition was established. In conclusion, the results of this study have made it possible to manufacture meta-aramids with higher abrasion strength.

  • One of the many dilemmas that the clinical restorative dentist must face is treating young adolescent patient who prematurely loses his permanent teeth. Temporary prosthetic replacement can be achieved with removable denture, orthodontic band-wire fixed denture, adhesion bridge, composite resin splint with reinforcing material until the patients go through growth and development. But, all of these have limitations. Advances in restorative materials and reinforcement materials have made possible new techniques which are as much esthetic, conservative and more economic and stronger than adhesion brides. Two cases are being presented where gas-plasma treated, woven polyethylene fabric to reinforce composite resin was used to fabricate a temporary prosthetic restoration to replace a missing maxillary central incisor. This relatively noninvasive and basically reversible procedure allows the patient to decide the final restoration as he or she goes thorough maturation of the hard and soft tissues.

  • This study is for quality standard establishment of urethane waterproofing membrane method which is mostly applied to waterproofing method for underground parking lot and rooftop. The experiments were carried out on color differences, membrane thickness, tensile property by curing period of liquid urethane before placing protective concrete, and resistance of crack movement according to different substrate surface and reinforcement of non-woven fabric. As a result of experiments, it was found that color differences is increase, membrane thickness is thick, tensile property is low as concrete placing period is shorter. In the fatigue property, membrane thickness of 3 mm was not broken, but 1~2 mm was broken and in the case of the membrane reinforced with non-woven fabric was more stable comparatively non-reinforcement one.
