  • Cotton fabric was treated with $TiO_2$-PEG600 dispersion colloid by pad-dry-cure and wet-fixation process to improve the performance properties as well as UV-cut effect. As the concentration of $TiO_2$/PEG increased tensile strength, crease resistance, stiffness of treated cotton fabric increased. Application of wet-fixation method provided a further improvement in tensile strength, crease resistance, stiffness of treated cotton fabric. Cotton fabric treated with $TiO_2$/PEG was more efficient in UV-cut property than untreated cotton.

  • The stretch fabrics were made by the use of PTT[Poly(trimethylene terephthalate)] fibers and changes in their physical properties were analysed. Tenacity and elongation of D-1(PTT DTY) yarn were 3.32 g/d and 50.4%, respectively, while these of D-2(PTT+CDP DTY) yarn were 2.46 g/d and 32.1%, respectively. The tenacity of PTT-1 and PET-1 fabrics was similar, but the elongation of PTT-1 and PET-1 fabrics was 75% and 44%, respectively. Thus, the elongation of PTT-1 fabric was two times higher than those of PET-1 fabric. In addition, the elastic recovery at 20% elongation of PTT-1, PTT-2 and PET-1 fabric was 85.0%, 80.5% and 60.0%, respectively, indicating that so PTT-1 fabric showed better elastic recovery. The light, wash, and abrasion fastness of PTT-1 and PTT-2 fabrics were above Grade 3, Grade 4-5, and Grade 4-5, respectively. Therefore, there was little effect of substance on the fastness.

  • In this paper, a representative unit volume (RUV) model was employed to simulate thermoforming process of carbon fabric-polymeric foam sandwich structures. Thermoforming simulations, which capture crimp angles and amplitude changes of carbon fabric with respect to different types of foams under the operating pressure were conducted with the help of RUV model. Changed shapes of tow structure after thermoforming were reflected in the two dimensional to determine mechanical properties of skin parts, i.e_ carbon fabric composites after thermoforming. Bending simulations with respect to different foam systems as well as different moduli of carbon fabric composites were successfully carried out by using properties obtained from two-dimensional analyses.

  • For the modification of wool surface, wool fabrics treated with oxygen low-temperature plasma(LTP) and dichloroisocyanuric acid(DCCA) were dyed with milling type acid dye. The difference of dyeing properties on modified and control wool fabric were investigated. DCCA treated wool showed that saturation dye uptake and dyeing desorption ratio were higher than LTP treated wool. Dyeing transition temperatures of DCCA and LTP treated wool fabrics were 20$^{\circ}C$ degree lower than control wool fabric. In light color fastness test, DCCA treated wool fabric was 1 grade lower than LTP or control wool fabric.

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate dyeing properties and color fastness of Ainus firma sieb. et Zucc. Fruit, according to dyeing temperature, dyeing time, dyeing concentrations and various mordants. The results were as follows ; 1. The dyeabilities of the natural colorants extracted from Alnus firma fruit were investigated under various dyeing temperature, dyeing time and dyeing concentration. As a result, the optimum dyeing temperature, time and concentration of silk fabric with Alnus firma fruit were $60^{\circ}C$, 60min and 100%(o.w.f.) respectively. 2. Alnus firma fruit extract dyed reddish purple (RP hue) on the Fe-mordanted silk fabric. In the case of other mordants, silk fabrics dyed yellow (Y hue). 3. Generally, the light color fastness was relatively fair in the silk fabric dyed with the Alnus firma fruit and Fe mordant. The washing color fastness of color change of silk dyeings mordanted with Al, Sn showed 4 grade. However, the dry cleaning color fastness of the silk fabric was fastness was excellent. The rubbing color fastness showed 4 grade at the most of mordants except Cu.

  • The repeatability of fabric drape was studied. Two methods for draping were used and the relation between node distributions was investigated using statistical analysis. With this, the relationship between node distribution and fabric mechanical properties was studied. The repeated measurements showed that there was no evidence that fabric has intrinsic node number and the mechanical properties influence on the number of nodes.

  • The thermoelastic behaviors of an inflatable fabric membrane structure for use in a stratospheric airship envelope are experimentally and numerically investigated. Mechanical tensile properties of the membrane material at room, high, and low temperatures are measured using an $Instron^{(R)}$ universal testing machine and an $Instron^{(R)}$ thermal chamber. To characterize the nonlinear behavior of the inflated membrane structure due to wrinkling, the bending behavior of an inflated cylindrical boom made of a fabric membrane is observed at various pressure levels. Moreover, the envelope of a stratospheric airship is numerically modeled based on the thermoelastic properties of the fabric membrane obtained from experimental data, and the wrinkled deformed shape induced by a thermal load is analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of chemical finishes on performance characteristics of microfiber blend fabrics. A 60% polyester microfiber /40% cotton blend woven fabric was finished by ten chemicals: three silicone softeners, one fluorochemical, and their mixtures. Performance characteristics examined were fabric hand attributes. Fabric hand was evaluated by instrumental measures using Kawabata KES-F system instruments. Silicone-only finishes did not change the bending properties significantly from those of the control fabric. The fluorochemical-only finish made the fabric stiffer and crisper. When the two chemicals were mixed they tended to offset this adversary effect. Most of the chemical finishes made the surface finer and smoother. Fluorochemical-only finish improved fabric strength. Likewise, dimethylpolysiloxane silicone improved fabric strength. Amino-functional hydrophilic and diamino-functional silicone softeners, on the other hand, reduced fabric strength. However, when mixed with the fluorochemical, the adversary effect was diminished.

  • The dimensional properties on polyester warp knitted fabrics with various lengths of underlap were studied. The results indicated that loop density increased with decreasing loop length and loop density of satin warp knitted fabric are a little higher than that of reverse satin warp knitted fabrics at a constant loop length. As the distance of underlap becomes shorter, the weight per unit area and thickness increases, the bulkiness decreases and the shrinkage of knitted fabrics become larger toward wale in satin warp knitted fabric and toward the course in reverse satin warp knitted fabric.
