This study described about preparation of the cross-linked silk fibroin (SF) film by ${\gamma}$-irradiation of the casted SF film, which is fabricated from aqueous solution regenerated via fibers of cocoons and their application as supports for human cell culture. The properties of cross-linked SF film were evaluated by FT-IR spectroscopy, contact angle, solubility to water, thermal analysis, surface area analyzer, and morphology via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The cross-linked SF films were not dissolved in water and exhibited the rough surface morphology, large surface area, and good thermal properties. The human fibroblast cell (CCD-986sk) and embryo kidney-ft cell were well growed on the surface of cross-linked SF film supports prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation. The cross-linked SF film prepared by ${\gamma}$-irradiation can be used as biomaterials for human cell culture.
We fabricated thermaly evaporated 10 nmNi/(poly)Si films to investigate the energy saving property of silicides formed by rapid thermal annealing (RTA) at the temperature of $300{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$ for 40 seconds. Moreover, we fabricated $10{\sim}50$ nm-thick ITO/Si films with a rf-sputter as reference films. A four-point tester was used to investigate the sheet resistance. A transmission electron microscope (TEM) and an X-ray diffractometer were used for the determination of cross sectional microstructure and phase changes. A UV-VISNIR and FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared rays spectroscopy) were employed for near-IR and middle-IR absorbance. Through TEM analysis, we confirmed $20{\sim}70nm-thick$ silicide layers formed on the single and polycrystalline silicon substrates. Nickel silicides and ITO films on the single silicon substrates showed almost similar absorbance in near-IR region, while nickel silicides on polycrystalline silicon substrate showed superior absorbance above 850 nm near-IR region to ITO films. Nickel silicide on polycrystalline substrate also showed better absorbance in middle IR region than ITO. Our result implies that nano-thick nickel silicides may have exellent absorbing capacity in near-IR and middle-IR region.

Inorganic materials, including gemstones, also have characteristic vibrational energies in the infrared that can be used for identification. For infrared spectroscopy, absorptions associated with the vibrations of the crystal structure (lattice vibrations) are characteristic of the given combination of atoms constituting the gemstone. Natural turquoise $CuAl_6(PO_4)_4\cdot(OH)_8\cdot 5H_2O$ can be distinguished easily from its common substitutes in the infrared range 2000~450$\textrm{cm}^{-1}$ by features in the mid-infrared. Gilson turquoise, which is a synthetic, exhibits a significantly smoother pattern when compared with natural turquoise, because of a different state of aggregation. Also, because the natural turquoise and gibbsite are so different chemically, their patterns are very different. The technique, which is infrared spectroscopy, is nondestructive and, with Fourier transform instrumentation, extremely rapid.
Polyurethane microcapsules containing functional oil (citronella oil) were successfully prepared by conventional interfacial polymerization of tolulene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) and ethylene glycol (EG) and characterized by Fourier transform (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Ultraviolet spectroscopy, particle size analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Tile effects of polymerization variables, such as surfactant concentration and agitation speed, on the particle size and particle size distribution were investigated. FT-IR spectroscopic data showed that citronella oil was successfully encapsulated in the microcapsule. Thermogravimetric analysis data showed that the microcapsule was thermally stable up to $220^{\circ}C$. The controlled release of the citronella oil present in the microcapsule core in a methanol medium was demonstrated by ultraviolet spectroscopy showing that the amount of released citronella oil was increased with increasing time. It was observed that the amount of released citronella oil was increased with increasing stirring speed and emulsifier concentration in the rnicrocapsule preparation step. Polyurethane microcapsules containing citronella oil showed excellent anti-moth property.

Oxidized polyethylene wax (OPEW) is, one of the food additives, used as a coating agent in citrus fruits and nuts. OPEW is authorized to quantum satis in EU, USA, and is acceptable less than 250 mg/kg in Australia and New Zealand. But OPEW is unauthorized as a food additive in Korea. This study was to establish the analytical method of OPEW and demonstrate the effective application of various food samples. We first conducted to compare the various analytical method including acid value (AV), high temperature gel permeation chromatography (HT-GPC), matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/MS), gas chromatography flame ionization detector (GC-FID) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). This result indicated that FT-IR spectrum of OPEW treated food sample displayed absorption bands for carbonyl group (C=O, $1714cm^{-1}$), ester group (C-O, $1463cm^{-1}$), aliphatic group (C-H, $2916cm^{-1}$). Furthermore, IR spectrum of OPEW treated food sample showed similar tendency with IR spectrum of OPEW standard. Therefore, it is confirmed that analytical method using FT-IR can be detected on analysis of OPEW in food. As a result of monitoring of 111 samples using established analytical method, OPEW was not detected in the food samples.

Humic substances(HS) from raw and process waters at a conventional water treatment plant were isolated and extracted by physicochemical fractionation methods to investigate their characteristics. They are characterized for their functionality, chemical composition, and spectroscopic characteristics using FT-IR(Fourier transform infrared) and $^1H-NMR$(proton nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy. Humic fraction gradually decreased from 47.2% to 26.4%(from 0.97 to 0.54 mgC/L) through conventional water treatment processes. Concentration of phenolic groups in the HS fraction gradually decreased from 60.5% to 21.8%(from 12.2 to $6.0\;{\mu}M/L$ as phenolic-OH) through water treatment. In the case of carboxylic groups, the concentration increased from 39.5% to 46.9%(from 7.9 to $10.6\;{\mu}M/L$ as COOH) by pre-chlorination, but gradually decreased to 34.2%($9.4\;{\mu}M/L$ as COOH) through sedimentation and sand filtration. From the results of the FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ spectra of HS, the content of carboxylic groups increased and ratio of aliphatic protons to aromatic protons($P_{Al}/P_{Ar}$) also increased through water treatment, which indicated the increase of aliphatic compounds.
Modern cultural heritage were made with various materials. But there are no certain analysis for modern cultural heritage. Analysis on rickshaw from National Museum of Korean Contemporary History were carried out using P-XRF, species identification, paint film analysis, FT-IR and microscope observation. As a result Copper and Zinc were measured in metal parts. Nickel alloys were first used in the modern era for rickshaw. Wooden parts, Oak(Quercus spp.), bamboo(Phyllostachys spp.) and Hinoki cypress(Chamaecyparis spp.) were identified. Outer films were painted by 5 layers and inner films were painted by 3 layers. More simple painting process were performed on the inner part. Cotton and wool were identified by FT-IR. Also, cowhide were identified. Authenticity conservation and restoration could be carried out with the results.
In this study, we investigated the curing properties of UV-LED curable color coating. Specially, the effects of UV-LED wavelength (365, 395, and 405 nm), inert gas, the concentration of photosensitizer, and dual curing on the curing behavior of UV-LED coating systems were studied. The photopolymerization behaviors and the unreacted acrylate groups at Film-air (FA) interface and Film-substrate (FS) interface were investigated by photo differential scanning calorimetry (Photo-DSC) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection (FT-IR/ATR), respectively. Photo-DSC results showed that the heat flow and the ultimate conversion for coating system cured by 405 nm UV-LED were higher than the corresponding values for coating systems cured by 395 and 365 nm UV-LED. FT-IR/ATR results showed that the UV-LED curing systems improved interior and through curing of the coating film, but significantly are affected by oxygen inhibition at FA-interface. The inert environment such as nitrogen purging and the dual curing improved the surface and interior curing of the coating films.

Adsorption characteristics for homologous xanthates on quartz surface has been investigated by FT-IR spectroscopy to understand the adsorption mechanism in relation with verification of the influence of surfactants on the stability of hydrophilic suspended solids in aqueous system. Contact angle measurement for water droplets on quartz surface treated with xanthate was also conducted as a supplementary study for spectroscopic investigation to grant a reliability to the interpretation of experimental results. It has been observed that monolayer of ethyl xanthate was formed on quartz surface as the adsorption progressed and double layer of ethyl xanthate was formed eventually through the reverse oriented adsorption of xanthate molecules on the monolayer. Similar trend of adsorption to the case of ethyl xanthate was found for propyl and butyl xanthates and adsorption was observed to occur more rapidly as the number of carbon atom in alkyl group of xanthate homologs increased. Thermodynamic aspect of adsorption was discussed using Young's equation and the variation in adsorption rate was examined according to the concentration of ethyl xanthate. Based on the result, it has been concluded that the adsorption features of surfactant on substrate in aquatic system is governed by molecular structure and concentration of surfactant and its residual time in aqueous environment as dissolved state also influences greatly the stability of hydrophilic suspended particles.
Glycerol is a non-volatile compound with no aromatic properties that contributes significantly to the quality of wine by providing sweetness and richness of taste. In addition, it is also the third most significant byproduct of alcoholic fermentation in terms of quantity after ethanol and carbon dioxide. In this study, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy was employed as a fast non-destructive method in conjugation with multivariate regression analysis to build a model for the quantitative analysis of glycerol concentration in wine samples. The samples were prepared by using three varieties of red wine samples (i.e., Shiraz, Merlot, and Barbaresco) that were adulterated with glycerol in concentration ranges from 0.1 to 15% (v·v-1), and subjected to analysis together with pure wine samples. A net analyte signal (NAS)-based methodology, called hybrid linear analysis in the literature (HLA/GO), was applied for predicting glycerol concentrations in the collected FT-IR spectral data. Calibration and validation sets were designed to evaluate the performance of the multivariate method. The obtained results exhibited a high coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.987 and a low root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.563% for the calibration set, and a R2 of 0.984 and a RMSE of 0.626% for the validation set. Further, the model was validated in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and limits of detection and quantification, and the results confirmed that this model can be used in most applications, as well as for quality assurance.
