  • Purpose : The purposes of this study were to investigate the age-related difference in balance ability in the elderly over 65 years and to verify the clinical usefulness of the functional reach test (FRT) for balance evaluation of the elderly through the sensory organization test (SOT). Methods : The subjects were forty-six community dwelling elderly people over 65 years old in order to verify the correlation of balance measures and to compare the balance ability. Balance was measured using the FRT and the six sub-equilibrium scores and the composite equilibrium score of the SOT. Pearson's product correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the relationships among these measurements of balance. Results : There was a significant difference in functional reach by age in the elderly (p<.01). There was a significant negative correlation between the FRT and the age of the elderly (r=-.396, p<.01). There was also significant high positive correlation between the FRT and the eye closed sway surface (EC/SS) (r=.789, p<.01), and composite equilibrium score (r=.548, p<.01) of the SOT. Conclusion : Thus, it is possible to use the FRT as a quantitative measure of balance, rather than the SOT, which is more expensive and complicated to evaluate elderly people. According to the results of this study, the use of the FRT is required clinically to objectively measure the balance of elderly people in the future.

  • Accidents or faults in the transmission and distribution system are never completely avoidable, and short-circuit and earth faults are occurs despite the efforts of the TSO and DSO. Recently, the connection to the transmission and distribution system of large-capacity new and renewable distributed power has increased rapidly and has various effects on the operation of the system. In order to minimize this, connection standards such as FRT (Fault-Ride-Through) have been established to provide wind turbines or solar inverters. In the event of a major faults of the power system, the operation support shall be provided so that the operator can stably operate the system by smoothly performing connection maintenance or rapid system separation. In this paper, in order to appropriately determine whether the FRT condition, which is the grid connection criterion for a representative DERs, is sufficient, a detection system using a PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) that measures a synchro-phasors was designed and deployment and a system accident due to a generator step-out to analyze and evaluate the proposed system based on the case.

  • The intracellular transport of organelles and protein complexes is mediated by kinesin superfamily proteins (KIFs). The first kinesin, kinesin 1, was identified as a molecular motor protein that moves various organelles and protein complexes along the microtubule rails in cells. Kinesin 1 is a tetramer of two heavy chains (KHCs, also called KIF5s) and two kinesin light chains (KLCs). KIF5s interact with many different proteins through their tail region, but their binding proteins have not yet been fully identified. To identify the interaction proteins for KIF5A, we performed yeast two-hybrid screening and found a specific interaction with ferritin heavy chain (Frt-h), which has a role in iron storage and detoxification. Frt-h bound to the amino acid residues between 800 and 940 of KIF5A and to other KIF5s in the yeast two-hybrid assay. The coiled-coil domain of Frt-h is essential for interaction with KIF5A. In addition, ferritin light chain (Frt-l) interacted with KIF5s in the yeast two-hybrid assay. In addition, these proteins showed specific interactions in the glutathione S-transferase (GST) pull-down assay. An antibody to KHC specifically co-immunoprecipitated Frt-h and Frt-l from mouse brain extracts. These results suggest the kinesin 1 motor protein may transport the ferritin complex in cells.

  • Basu (1980) examined Fisher Randomization Test (FRT) of matched pair experimental data with critical point of view. Additionally, Lane (1980) pointed out that "the experimenter may be interested in a weaker notion of equality between two treatments, " than the notion of equality which FRT relies on. In this study, a randomization test is developed so that it can test a weaker hypothesis of equality. equality.

  • A large modern wind farm should satisfy the requirements for a grid and accomplish the optimization of the wind farm system. The wind farm intertie protection system should consider a Fault Ride-Through (FRT) requirement for more reliable protection. The wind farm should keep connected to the grid in the case of a grid fault whilst it should be isolated for an intertie fault. This paper proposes a distance relaying algorithm suitable for wind farm intertie protection considering the FRT requirement. The proposed algorithm estimates the impedance based on a differential equation method because the frequency of the voltage and current deviates the nominal frequency. The algorithm extends the reach of Zone 1 up to 100 % of the length of the intertie to implement the FRT requirement. To discriminate an intertie fault from a grid fault, the algorithm uses a voltage blocking scheme because the magnitude of the voltage at the relaying point for an intertie fault becomes less than that for a grid fault. The performance of the algorithm is verified using a PSCAD/EMTDC simulator under various fault conditions. The algorithm can discriminate successfully the intertie fault from grid fault and thus helps to implement the FRT requirement of a wind farm.

  • Fault Ride Through(FRT) requirement prevents disconnections of distributed generations during the specific time on disturbance condition for system stability. However, since there is a limitation to the FRT capability of distributed generation, and the protection system needs to clear the fault quickly before the distributed generation is disconnected. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel optimal setting method of directional overcurrent relay considering FRT of distributed generation. The proposed method reduces the probability of disconnections of the distributed generation in disturbance without additional equipment considering the FRT capability of the distributed generation by calculating the optimal relay setting through the Genetic Algorithm(GA).

  • The IncP plasmid R995 has been a useful self-transmissible, broad-host-range vector for a number of applications including the recombinase/conjugation-based cloning of large genomic DNA segments. However, R995 derivatives (or related plasmids) expressing a wide range of different resistance markers and Flp recombinase target sites do not exist in the literature. In addition, documented strategies for applying such plasmids in cloning applications that take advantage of conjugation for the convenient isolation and recovery of constructs are extremely limited. Here, we report a new series of R995 plasmids with alternative markers to increase options for applications in backgrounds already expressing resistance to a particular antibiotic(s). These R995 plasmids have been engineered to contain FRT sites that can be used for recombinase-based cloning. We demonstrate the utility of this approach by cloning 20 kb regions from the Salmonella Typhimurium and Escherichia coli genomes and by cloning DNA from an exogenous plasmid source. To our knowledge, this represents the first systematic engineering of an intact, self-transmissible IncP plasmid with a series of alternative antibiotic markers and FRT sites.

  • Caveolae are small, flask-shaped, non-clathrin coated invaginations of the plasma membrane of many mammalian cells. Caveolae have a coat that includes caveolin. They have been implicated in numerous cellular processes, including potocytosis. Since the human folate receptor (hFR) and other glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI)-tailed proteins have been co-localized to caveolae, we studied the caveolin role in the hFR function by transfecting hFR and/or caveolin cDNA into Fischer rat thyroid epithelial (FRT) cells that normally do not express detectable levels of either protein. We isolated and characterized stable clones as follows: they express (1) high levels of caveolin alone, (2) hFR and caveolin, or (3) hFR alone. We discovered that hFR is correctly processed, sorted, and anchored by a GPI tail to the plasma membrane in FRT cells. No difference in the total folic acid binding or cell surface folic acid binding activity were found between the FRT cells that were transfected with hFR, or cells that were transfected with hFR and caveolin. The hFR that was expressed on the cell surface of clones that were transfected with hFR was also sensitive to phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) release, and incorporated radiolabeled ethanolamine that supports the attachment of a GPI-tail on hFR. We conclude that the processing, sorting, and function of hFR is independent on the caveolin expression in FRT cells.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of mobilization of C0-C1 and C7-T1 applied to asymptomatic individuals with reduced upper cervical rotation during the FRT. Design: parallel randomized controlled trial. 48 subjects(38.52 years${\pm}15.13$) with C1-C2 rotation hypomobility in TFR joined the study and were randomized into three groups(C0, C7, control group). FRT in both directions was measured before and after the intervention. C0 intervention consisted of a dorsal translatoric mobilization of C0-C1 in the cervical neutral position. C7 intervention consisted of a ventral cranial translatoric mobilization of C7-T1 in neutral position and the control group maintained a supine position. C0 group experienced a FRT ROM to the restricted side increase of $17.64^{\circ}$(SD=4.55), that was significantly greater (P<0.001) than $5.95^{\circ}$(SD=4.81) of the C7 group and $2.45^{\circ}$(SD=5.05) of the control group. The results showed that a dorsal translatoric mobilization of C0-C1 in neutral position restored the physiological FRT mobility in subjects with C1-C2 hypomobility and experienced statistical significant improvement in FRT as compared to a C7-T1 translatoric mobilization and a control group.
