  • This paper describes the need for a ductile Fiber Reinforced Plastic(FRP) reinforcement for concrete structures. Using the material hybrid and geometric hybrid, it is demonstrated that the pseudo-ductility characteristic can be generated in FRP rebar. Ductile hybrid FRP bars were successfully fabricated at 4mm and l0mm nominal diameters using an hand lay up method. Tensile specimens from these bars were tested and compared with behavior of FRP rebar and steel bar

  • The structural material with the highest possibility of new materials that will be used in the future construction field is fiber reinforced polymer. The current studies on FRP members by using such excellent material characteristics mostly focused on stability, composite problem, and durability of FRP members. The initially constructed FRP members secure excellent stability and durability compared to reinforced concrete and steel materials, but measures for defections during the periodical inspection, methods for detecting breakages, and maintenance and reinforcement are not insufficient. Accordingly, this study proposed a measurement system using the FRP sensor to evaluate the safety of the FRP modular box member, and applied the phased array ultrasonic technique to detect the defects and damage likely to occur during the performance period.

  • High performance materials such as Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) are often used for retrofitting structures against blast loads due to its ductility and strength. The effectiveness of retrofit materials needs to be precisely evaluated for the retrofitting design based on the dynamic material responses under blast loads. In this study, the blast resistance of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) and Kevlar/Glass hybrid fabric (K/G) retrofitted reinforced concrete (RC) wall is analyzed by using the explicit analysis code LS-DYNA, which accommodates the high-strain rate dependent material models. Also, the retrofit effectiveness of FRP fabrics is evaluated by comparing the analysis results for non-retrofitted and retrofitted walls. The verification of the analysis is performed through comparisons with the previous experimental results.

  • In this study mechanical and environment ability of FRP pole for a distribution line about high strength and good insulation properties. The basic filament winding process creates a helical winding pattern. In mechanical analysis of splice with mechanical fastened joint it is important to evaluate a critical load of faster having maximum stress. It is also present a result of several examples to compare this with analytical one. On repair design this finite element method will be used as basis. The influence of environmental factors, such as elevated temperatures, high humidity, and corrosive fluids, and ultraviolet(UV) rays, upon the performance of polymeric matrix composite is of concern in many applications.

  • DFRCC (ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composites), which are a significantly improved ductile material compared to conventional concrete, were evaluated as a new construction material with a high potential applications to concrete structures for a range of purposes. In this study, experiments on the failure behavior of composite beams with a DFRCC and FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) plank with a rib used as permanent formwork and tensile reinforcement were carried out. A normal concrete and a fiber reinforced concrete with PVA series of RF4000 and the PP series of PP-macro were used for comparison, and each RF4000+RSC15 and PP-macro+RSC15 was tested by producing composite beams. The experimental results of the FRP plank without a sand coating showed that sliding failure mode between the FRP plank and concrete started from a flexural crack at the beam center; therefore it is necessary for the FRP plank to be coated with sand and the effect of the fiber to failure mode did not appear to be huge. The experiment of the FRP plank with a sand coating showed that both 1200mm and 2000mm allowed sufficient bonding between the concrete and FRP plank. The maximum load of the fiber reinforced concrete was higher than that of normal concrete and the case which a series of PP fiber was mixed showed the highest value. The crack latency caused by the fibers led to composite action with a FRP rib.

  • In the case of composite material, a variety of characteristics were expressed depending on the materials that were composed of. In this study, the materials showing non-linear shear behavior were investigated among FRP composite. Each specimen was designed and analyzed according to ASTM D4255 method: regulations on the 2-rail. The dependent variables included in this experiment were a variety of fiber, fiber volume ratio, fiber array direction, temperature, material homogeneity. For determination of characteristics based on the fiber array, fiber array direction of 0, 30, 45, and 60 degrees were selected for test specimen. Temperature of 25, 40, 60, and $80^{\circ}C$ were considered for investigation of FRP materials'shear behavior based on the external temperature. Nonlinear shear behavior was observed throughout the FRP composite material in this study. Also, using vinyl ester resins, high fiber volume ratio, and fiber array direction of 45 degree appeared to show the most prominent nonlinear shear behavior. As for the findings related to the temperature change, non-linear behavior was decreased as the external temperature increased. For factory manufactured product, non-linear behavior was relatively at parity in comparison to the behavior found in the hand lay-up FRP composite specimen.

  • FRP has been used widely for insulator. FRP consists of fiber and resin. The fiber contributes the high strength and modulus to the composite. The fiber orientation in FRP has a great effect on the strength of FRP because the strength of FRP mainly depends on the strength of fiber. In this study, FRP was made unidirectionally by pultrusion method. Outer part of the FRP was made by filament winding method to give fiber orientation to the FRP. And outer part of FRP was also made by wrapping method. The bending strength and bending stresses of FRP rods were simulated according to the winding orientation of glass fiber. The bending strength of FRP was also evaluated. The results of simulation and evaluation were compared each other to investigate main stresses which affect the fracture of FRP. The main stresses which had a great effect on the strength of FRP were shear stresses. Bending strength of the FRP was different with the winding angle. The bending strength of $15^{\circ}$ winded FRP was the highest.

  • This study is about manufacturing and producing girder, which is an essential component of bridge structure, in a composite of FRP + concrete. This has a higher competitive power in price than steel girder. The girder used in this study is made of glass fiber which has a lower elastic modulus than steel and thus has some technical limitations such as excessive deflection compared to steel girder and lack of production facilities in FRP production companies to make a large-section component material. Thus, this study suggested a section of a new module that will allow for applying a large section in order to solve the technical difficulties mentioned above and to secure low stiffness of FRP, developed a new FRP+concrete composite girder that is filled with the appropriate amount of concrete. To identify the structural behavior of this FRP+concrete composite girder, experiments were conducted to measure its flexural strength according to the difference in the strength of confined concrete and the existence of stud. The results of the flexural strength test confirmed the composite effect from confining concrete and the effect of increase in strength proportional to the strength of concrete. In developing FRP+concrete composite girder, NDT study was also conducted to analyze the interface characteristics of concrete and FRP.

  • Recently, the applied frequency of composite materials was increased from the viewpoint of lightweight, high strength and low cost when a leisure boat and a fishing boatwere built. However, studies on the mechanical properties of composite material with ship are rare. Specially, a leisure boat and fishing boat with FRP had been built by hand lay-up method. However, the vacuum infusion method is rising recently for ship building. The manufactured these FRP plates were combined by using the adhesive. Therefore, in this study Cleavage peel strength, Shear strength and fatigue limit of adhesive bonds by tensileloading were estimated. From test results, the strengths of FRP specimens made by the vacuum infusion method are higher than that of the hand lay-up method.
