  • An ideal of a commutative ring is called a d-ideal if it contains the annihilator of the annihilator of each of its elements. Denote by DId(A) the lattice of d-ideals of a ring A. We prove that, as in the case of f-rings, DId(A) is an algebraic frame. Call a ring homomorphism "compatible" if it maps equally annihilated elements in its domain to equally annihilated elements in the codomain. Denote by $SdRng_c$ the category whose objects are rings in which the sum of two d-ideals is a d-ideal, and whose morphisms are compatible ring homomorphisms. We show that $DId:\;SdRng_c{\rightarrow}CohFrm$ is a functor (CohFrm is the category of coherent frames with coherent maps), and we construct a natural transformation $RId{\rightarrow}DId$, in a most natural way, where RId is the functor that sends a ring to its frame of radical ideals. We prove that a ring A is a Baer ring if and only if it belongs to the category $SdRng_c$ and DId(A) is isomorphic to the frame of ideals of the Boolean algebra of idempotents of A. We end by showing that the category $SdRng_c$ has finite products.

  • Localized heavy storm is one of the major causes of flood damage in urban regions. According to the recent disaster statistics in South Korea, the frequency of urban flood is increasing more frequently, and the scale is also increasing. However, localized heavy storm is difficult to predict, making it difficult for local government officials to deal with floods. This study aims to construct a Flood risk matrix (FRM) using ensemble weather prediction data and to assess its applicability as a means of reducing damage by securing time for such urban flood response. The FRM is a two-dimensional matrix of potential impacts (X-axis) representing flood risk and likelihood (Y-axis) representing the occurrence probability of dangerous weather events. To this end, a regional FRM was constructed using historical flood damage records and probability precipitation data for basic municipality in Busan and Daegu. Applicability of the regional FRMs was assessed by applying the LENS data of the Korea Meteorological Administration on past heavy rain events. As a result, it was analyzed that the flood risk could be predicted up to 3 days ago, and it would be helpful to reduce the damage by securing the flood response time in practice.

  • An enhancement of tracking capacity for the centering position of eye and iris on the facial image is presented. A facial image is acquisitioned with a CCD camera to be converted into a binary image. The eye region to be a specified brightness and shapes is used the FRM method using the neighboring five mask areas, and the iris on the eye is tracked with FPDP method. The experimental result shows that the proposed methods lead the centering position tracking capability to be enhanced than the pixel average coordinate values method.

  • The effects of coating parameters were investigated in wear resistance coatings of Diamalloy-406 on Inconel 718 to obtain an optimum coating condition by high velocity oxy-fuel spraying. The coating parameters, the flow rates of source gases (hydrogen and oxygen), the powder feed rate, and the spray distance, were designed by the Taguchi method. The optimal conditions were determined: oxygen flow rate 34 FRM, hydrogen flow rate 57 FRM, powder feed rate 35 g/min, and spray distance 7 inch. Friction coefficients of the coating and the substrate decreased with an increasing sliding surface temperature from $25^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. The friction coefficient of Diamalloy-4006 coating decreased as the sliding surface temperature increased from $0.43{\pm}0.01$ at $25^{\circ}C$ to $0.29{\pm}0.01$ at $450^{\circ}C$. The wear trace and wear depth of the coating were smaller than the substrate at all temperatures tested. The relationship between spray parameters and wear resistance was discussed extensively, based on the measured roughness, hardness, and porosity in each coating.

  • Among the many factors that threaten the improvement of public health and quality of life, the proportion of fine dust is not so small, and the kinds and causes of the dust are also diversified. However, the domestic measuring instrument is in the initial stage and the certification system is insignificant. Recognizing the threat of fine dust for a long time, the United States has established a protocol of measurement standards and measurement methods and applied the developed fine dust measuring device authentication system. Through this system, the United States is leading the world's fine dust industry, technology and market. The EPA, FRM and FEM of the fine dust-related protocol were analyzed to reduce the harmful effects of repeated fine dust every year. In addition, light scattering method and spectroscopy method which can measure in real time by measuring method were examined, and the types and characteristics of fine dust measuring instrument of international certification level were analyzed. Finally, development and service plan of the domestic fine dust measuring instrument are presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to prepare a high-strength Fiberglass Reinforced Metal (FRM). Aluminum covering over carbon fibers (CF) was made to increase their wettability to molten aluminum. A cylindrical sputtering apparatus was used for the covering. One tow of carbon fibers was placed along the central axis of the cylindrical target. Aluminum was uniformly coated around the carbon fiber tow. But in case of CF without sizing treatment, aluminum spread into the inside of the tow. Preforms of carbon fiber/aluminum composite were made by impregnating carbon fiber with molten aluminum. Contact angle of molten aluminum to the aluminum-coated carbon fiber was about $30^{\circ}$. The fractured section of preform was observed by SEM, which showed that molten aluminum wetted the outer part of the tow well but had not penetrated into the center, and that adhesion between CF and aluminum matrix was in good condition.

  • This paper provides an approach for representing an optimum vector quantizer by a scalar nonlinear gain-plus-additive noise model. The validity and accuracy of this analytic model is confirmed by comparing the calcuated model quantization errors with actual simulation of the optimum Linde-Buzo-Gray(LBG) vector quantizer. Using this model we frm MSE measure of an M-band filter bank codec in terms of the equivalent scalar quantizatin model and find the optimum FIR filter coefficients for each channel in the M-band structure for a given bit rate, given filter length, and given input signal correlation model. Specific design examples are worked out for 4-tap filters in the two-band paraunitary case. These theoretical results are confirmed by extensive Monte Carlo simulation.

  • A high resolution picosecond absorption kinetic spectrometer utilizing dye emission and a streak camera is presented and compared with other methods of picosecond transient absorption measurements. Typical transient absorption and bleach recovery kinetics measured with this spectrometer are shown. Single wavelength transient absorption or ground state bleach recovery kinetics are determined on the basis of a single laser shot, so that the samples are relatively free frm decomposition by irradiation. Excellent kinetics may be obtained from the near UV to the near IR and are not subject to interference from luminescence of samples. The sensitivity of this spectrometer is very high and it is reasonably easy and convenient to set up and use.
