  • The fatigue life of steel wire is affected not only by fatigue load, but also by corrosion environment in service period. Specially, the corrosion pit will lead to stress concentration on the surface of steel wire inducing the formation of fatigue cracks, and the fatigue cracks will accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, the corrosion fatigue of steel wire is a coupling effect. In this study, the corrosion-fatigue coupling life curve is derived with considering corrosion-fatigue pitting stage, corrosion-fatigue short crack stage and corrosion-fatigue long crack stage. In addition, the stress concentration factors of different corrosion pits are calculated by COMSOL software. Furthermore, the effect of corrosion environment factors, that is, corrosion rate, corrosion pit morphology, frequency and action factor of fatigue load, on fatigue life of steel wire is analyzed. And then, the corrosion-fatigue coupling life curve is compared with the fatigue life curve and fatigue life curve with pre-corrosion. The result showed that the anti-fatigue performance of the steel wire with considering corrosion-fatigue coupling is 68.08% and 41.79% lower than fatigue life curve and fatigue life curve with pre-corrosion. Therefore, the corrosion-fatigue coupling effect should be considered in the design of steel wire.

  • For reasonable fatigue design and estimation of fatigue durability considered fatigue strength and stiffness of the automotive body structure, many fatigue data must be insured according to the shapes, materials, and welding conditions of the spot welded lap joints. However, because it is actually difficult problem, there is need to establish a new method to be able to predict its fatigue life without any additional fatigue tests. Therefore, In order to improve such problems, in this study, the maximum stress function presenting the $\delta\sigma_{1max}―\delta P$ relation was defined form the relation between $\delta\sigma_{1max}-N_f$ and ${\delta}P-N_f$. By using the fatigue data on the IB type spot-welded lap joints previously obtained from the fatigue test results, fatigue life of the spot-welded lap joint previously obtained from the fatigue test results, fatigue life of the spot-welded lap joint having a certain dimension was tried to predict without any additional fatigue tests. And, its result was verified by ${\delta}P-$N_f$ curves. Obtained conclusion are as follows, 1) a maximum stress function considered the relation of the maximum principal stress, fatigue load, and the effects of geometrical factors of the IB type spot-welded lap joint was suggested. 2) the fatigue life predicted by the maximum principal stress function and the relation of $\delta\sigma_{1max}-N_f$ was well agreed with the fatigue life obtained through the actual fatigue test result. 3) the fatigue life of the IB type spot-welded lap joint having a certain dimension is able to be predicted without any additional fatigue tests from the fatigue life prediction method by the maximum principal stress function.

  • The development of the aviation industry and the changes in the military operation mission environment are demanding more long - distance operation (long - time flight), and such a flying environment is a risk factor for fatigue - related accidents. For the aviation related organizations such as ICAO and FAA, fatigue risk management system (FRMS) are applied along with flight time restriction regulations to prevent fatigue related accidents. The most important process in FRMS is fatigue risk management. Fatigue risk management systematically manages fatigue through scientific fatigue risk data collection and fatigue risk assessment. The purpose of this study is to applicate the assessment of scientific fatigue risk management to pilots of airplanes engaged in long flight. We reviewed the current state of risk management and FRMS through previous research. We also developed fatigue risk management indicators and examined the validity of internationally recognized fatigue risk data collection methods and fatigue risk assessment tools. There are 134 mission (flight) data used for development. In order to verify the indicators, the fatigue risk score between the items was assigned through pair-wise comparison. In addition, the verify test results were normalized.

  • The spider of a drum washing machine receives the repeated fatigue loadings during laundering. Although the spider is designed statically safely, it often happens fatigue failure. Therefore it requires the safe design for fatigue and needs the prediction of quantitative fatigue life. The S-N diagram for a spider material is developed by fatigue test and statistical analysis. The stresses are measured directly from strain gages on the spider. To predict the fatigue life of spider, the rainflow counting method and Miner's rule are used. The data for fatigue life are analyzed statistically. From these data, reliability estimation for fatigue life can be done and also, equivalent fatigue life can be obtained. It will be applied to make and improve to a short period for design and prototype test.

  • A series of fatigue tests have been performed on the non-load carrying fillet welded joints in order to quantitatively assess the fatigue characteristics due to the grindings and TIG(Tungsten Inert Gas) welding treatments. From the results of fatigue tests, it has been shown that the fatigue strengths at $2{\times}106$ load cycles were improved in the case of the grinding sand TIG welding treatments, and we could know that it is satisfying fatigue strength prescribed in fatigue design standard in general. Besides, from the results of fracture mechanics approaches, the geometric shape correction factors were the most dominant factors in the initial fatigue crack growth, but as the fatigue crack develops, the finite plate correction factor were became the most dominant factor, and the fatigue life on non-load carrying fillet welded joints could be relatively exactly estimated by using the relations between fatigue crack growth rate and stress intensity factor obtained from finite element analysis and existing proposed formulae.

  • Pilot fatigue is a great hazard to aviation safety. In recent years, long-distance fights have been increasing and flight hours have been increasing, which has made fatigue issues important. International organizations in the aviation sectors (ICAO, FAA, IATA etc.) recommend management of fatigue within the SMS (Safety Management System) framework. A scientific and systematic approach to measuring fatigue is required as a prerequisite to preparing safety management measures for pilot's fatigue. Therefore, in this study, I would like to consider recent trends and implications for fatigue measurement. First, I aimed to consider recent the accident cases related to fatigue. Second, I also considered how to measure the pilot's fatigue. Finally, the direction of the countermeasures against fatigue through fatigue measurement was developed and suggested.

  • The aim of this study is to describe degree of fatigue and factors related to fatigue in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The subjects of the study consist of one hundred fifty-eight outpatients with rheumatoid arthritis at three university hospitals in Taegu between July 10 and August 30, 1999. The instrument used in this study was the Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue developed by Belza et al.(1995) and revised by Jung, Bok Hee. Kim, Myung Ae(1998). Analysis of data was done by using the descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan with SPSS program. The major findings can be summarized as follows: 1. Degree of fatigue in patient with Rheumatoid Arthritis was shown the average 22.91 out of the total scores 40. Four subscales of fatigue scores are common fatigue degree 6.37, fatigue timing at the last week 5.92, distress due to fatigue 5.40 and degree of daily activity fatigue 5.22. Among the realms of daily activity fatigue, outdoor activity(6.00), sexual life(5.84), doing the household(5.66), shopping(5.61), other exercise except stroll(5.54) were shown the high degree of fatigue and cooking(4.97), a stroll(4.48), recreation(4.35) showed the low degree of fatigue. 2. There were no significant differences on the total degree of fatigue according to demographic variables. But there were some significant differences on the subscale fatigue scores according to demographic variables. Degree of daily activity fatigue according to sex was shown significant difference (t=-2.358, p=.020), and according to education level was shown significant difference(F=3.938, p=.005) and common fatigue degree according to age was shown significant difference(F=2.853, p=.026). Conclusively fatigue is one of difficult problems for patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore it is necessary to develop some nursing intervention for reducing fatigue of rheumatoid arthritis patients.
