  • by use of HCl-Giemsa technique and light microscope, dividing vegetative nuclei in hyphae of Fusarium species were observed and the results are summerized. The chromosome number of these fungi was ranged 4 to 8. Of the 20 strains, the highest haploid chromosome number is 8 in F. solani S Hongchun K4, F. moniliforme (from banana) and F. raphani (from radish). The lowest is 4 in F. sporotrichioides NRRL 3510 and F. equiseti KFCC 11843 IFO 30198. F. solani 7468 (from Sydney), F. solani 7475 (from Sydney), F. oxysporum(from tomato). F. roseum (from rice), F. sporotrichioides C Jngsun 1, F. equiseti C Kosung 1 and F. avenaceum 46039 are n=7. F. moniliforme (from rice) F. graminearum, F. proliferatum 6787 (from Syndey), F. proliferatum 7459 (from Synder) and F. anguioides ATCC 20351 are n=6. F. moniliforme NRRL 2284, F. poae NRRL 3287 and F. trincinctum NRRL 3299 are n=5. From these results, it may be concluded that the basic haploid chromosome number of the genus Fusarium is 4 and mat have been evolutionary variation of chromosome number through aneuploidy and polyploidy.

  • Glasses of different compositions were synthesized by substituting each component of 56ZrF4-14BaF2-6LaF3-4AlF3-20NaF(ZBLAN) with HfH4, SrF2, GdF3, InF3 and LiF3, each of similar size and chemical property with the component being substituted, respectively. The heating rate used in the DSC runs was 10K/min. All ofthe glasses exhibit glass transition temperatures of 510$\pm$10K, while crystallization temperatures vary between 625 and 720K depending upon different glass compositions. For most glasses crystallization temperatures obtained while cooled are lower than those obtained while heated, but InF3 or SrF2 containing glasses showed opposite trend. HBLAN, ZHBLAN and ZHBLANLi glasses, which were made by substituting HfH4, LiF for ZrF4 and NaF of ZBLAN respectively, showed improvement in the glass stability.

  • In this paper, we solve the following quadratic $\rho$-functional inequalities ${\parallel}f(\frac{x+y+z}{2})+f(\frac{x-y-z}{2})+f(\frac{y-x-z}{2})+f(\frac{z-x-y}{2})-f(x)-x(y)-f(z){\parallel}\;(0.1)\\{\leq}{\parallel}{\rho}(f(x+y+z+)+f(x-y-z)+f(y-x-z)+f(z-x-y)-4f(x)-4f(y)-f(z)){\parallel}$ where $\rho$ is a fixed complex number with ${\left|\rho\right|}<\frac{1}{8}$, and ${\parallel}f(x+y+z)+f(x-y-z)+f(y-x-z)+f(z-x-y)-4f(x)-4f(y)-4f(z){\parallel}\;(0.2)\\{\leq}{\parallel}{\rho}(f(\frac{x+y+z}{2})+f(\frac{x-y-z}{2})+f(\frac{y-x-z}{2})+f(\frac{z-x-y}{2})-f(x)-f(y)-f(z)){\parallel}$ where $\rho$ is a fixed complex number with ${\left|\rho\right|}$ < 4. Using the fixed point method, we prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of the quadratic $\rho$-functional inequalities (0.1) and (0.2) in complex Banach spaces.

  • From the previous studies, F-P-4 formula was found to be comparable to full fat dry milk in its nutritive value and feeding performance. However, an attempt was made in order to make sure whether or not any possibility might exist, by which further improvement of nutritive quality and simultaneous reduction of product costs may be achieved. Using F-P-4 as a control, modifications were made in new formulas, F-P-5, F-P-6 and F-P-7 by reducing FPC, eliminating yeast from the mixture, and by enriching with methionine as needed. In particular, F-P-7 is completely free of FPC, hydrogenated oil and yeast. Yet, levels of total protein and fat were kept equal to those of F-P-4 in all formulas. An animal feeding test for all formulas using 10 female rats per group for 8 weeks and an infant feeding trial for F-P-5 and F-P-6 with 5 of each female infants under age of one for one month were conducted along with F-P-4 as a control. Almost the same results were obtained with F-P-4, 5 and 6, but F-P-7 showed the lowest body weight gain. FER of F-P-5 and 6 was 0.20 as was with F-P-4, while that of F-P-7 was 0.16. Acceptability to infants was excellent; growth, appearance and biochemical data were normal. As an example F-P-4 packed in 0.04mm polyethylene bags was used for storage study at $25^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of $65{\sim}85%$ for 8 months. Although viable bacterial counts and vitamin C contents were reduced, peroxide and TBA values were increased gradually during such storage. Since there are also significant changes in color and organoleptic quality, the expected shelf life under the given conditions is considered to be about 2 months and thus further works are needed both on the product and packaging in order to improve the storage stability. Either elimination of yeast form F-P-4, that is F-P-5, or partial replacement of FPC with methionine, that is F-P-6 may well reduce material costs about 10%. Considering blending process of ingredients, F-P-5 is thus found to be the best formula developed. While F-P-7 free of FPC is inferior in its nutritive quality than that of others, but significantly superior than of rice. Furthermore, the material cost of the product can be reduced about 20% from that of F-P-4. And thus this vegetable blend is considered to be useful as a low cost supplementary food mixture for growing children.

  • A study on the separation of Zr metal from $LiF-BeF_2-ZrF_4$ (67-27-6 mol%) molten salt was carried out using electrowinning. The decomposition potentials of the $LiF-BeF_2$ (72-28 mol%) and the $LiF-BeF_2-ZrF_4$ (67-27-6 mol%) molten salts were measured to be -1.55 and -1.35 volt, respectively. The Zr separation voltage from the salt were found to be in a range of -1.4 -1.5 volt. As increasing applied current, the deposition of molten salt on a cathode increases but the current efficiency decreases. In addition, the deposition and current efficiency decreases with increasing temperature.

  • The mitotic nuclear divisions in hyphae and chromosome number in 10 strains of Fusarium oxysporum were studies with the aid of Giemsa-HCl techniques. The chromosome number of fungi was ranged from 4 to 8. Of the 10 strains (F. oxysporum f. sp. lycoperici, F. oxysporum Kangnung D2) are n=4; two (F. oxysporum Sachun3, F. oxysporum S Kohung D2) n=5; five (F. oxysporum S Kohung 3, F. oxysporum CS Hongchun D16, F. oxysporum S Bosung 5, F. oxysporum SSunchun4 and F. oxysporum S Haenam 4) n=7 and one (F. oxysporum from the Australia) are n=8. These results along with my previous papers indicate that the basic chromosome number of the F. oxysporum may be n=4 and may have been evolutionary modification within this fugal group through diploidy and aneuploidy. As additional strains are studied, the chromosome number should help to reveal steps possible phylogenetic relationship within the group as well as more clearly defining taxonomic group and variation factors.
