Purpose: Gastrointestinal symptoms are often related to antibiotic treatment. Their incidence, risk and protective conditions in children are not well defined and represent the aims of this study. Methods: We prospectively enrolled inpatient children submitted to antibiotic treatment. Indication, type, dose and duration of treatment, probiotic supplementation and gastrointestinal symptoms were recorded at recruitment, after two and four weeks. Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (AAD) was defined as the presence of at least 3 loose/liquid stools within 14 days from antibiotic onset. Results: AAD occurred in 59/289 (20.4%) of patients, with increased risk in children younger than 3 years (relative risk [RR]=4.25), in lower respiratory (RR=2.11) and urinary infections (RR=3.67), intravenous administration (RR=1.81) and previous AAD episodes (RR=1.87). Abdominal pain occurred in 27/289 (9.3%), particularly in children >6 years (RR=4.15), with previous abdominal pain (RR=7.2) or constipation (RR=4.06). Constipation was recorded in 23/289 (8.0%), with increased risk in children having surgery (RR=2.56) or previous constipation (RR=7.38). Probiotic supplementation significantly reduced AAD (RR=0.30) and abdominal pain (RR=0.36). Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and L. reuteri significantly reduced AAD (RR=0.37 and 0.35) and abdominal pain (RR=0.37 and 0.24). Conclusion: AAD occurred in 20.4% of children, with increased risk at younger age, lower respiratory and urinary tract infections, intravenous treatment and previous AAD. LGG and L. reuteri reduced both AAD and associated abdominal pain.

Korean agriculture is currently experiencing difficulties as a cause of rural depopulation, aging of rural population, grain self-sufficiency rate decline, and deepening of climate change. It is necessary to ensure our country's agriculture industrial competitiveness in accordance with opening of FTA imports expanded. To ensure the underdeveloped competitive, Korean government defines the 3rd generation model from 1st generation model to extend the smart farms of Korean types. The agriculture smarting overcomes the growth limitations of agriculture, and efforts to develop 6th + ${\alpha}$ industry. In this paper, We define and verify the IoF(Internet of Farming)-Cloud based substantial services about 2rd generation model, and propose a greenhouse of IoF-Cloud testbed.

This experiment was conducted to evaluate pollen viability of Nakdongbyeo, transgenic rice lines, an F$_1$ hybrid from a cross between Milyang weedy rice and ABC-promoter transgenic rice line containing basta-resistant (bar) gene and subsequent selfed progenies, F$_2$ and F$_3$. The reaction of pollen with 3-{4,5 dimethylthiazolyl-2}-2,5-diphenyl monotetrazolium bromide (MTT) as a staining chemical immediately after pollen shedding showed maximum pollen viability of 86% in Nakdongbeyo, 75% in ABC-promoter transgenic rice line, 62% in ubiquitin-promoter transgenic line, 68% in F$_1$, 79% in F$_2$ and 78% in F$_3$. Viability gradually declined during subsequent observations at 20-minute intervals. However, there was a drastic decline in pollen viability after 40 minutes of pollen shedding. The mean difference of pollen viability among rice lines and time was highly significant, indicating significantly different pollen viabilities at different time intervals. Maximum viability of 36.2% was observed in F$_3$ and minimum viability of 3.5% was found in F$_2$ at 90 min after pollen shedding. Results of this experiment on pollen viability and longevity elucidate potential risks of pollen-mediated flow of herbicide-resistant gene from transgenic rice lines and possible integration of it into the weedy rice population.
Two rice varieties, 'Oochikara' with large grain and 'Hwayeongbyeo' and their progenies (F$_1$, F$_2$, B$_1$ and B$_2$) were tested to understand gene action of morphological traits of rice grain and their relationships. The evaluated traits were 1,000-grain weight, grain length, width, thickness, length-width ratio and chalkiness of brown rice. Correlation between grain weight and chalkiness was highly significant in the all progenies, and grain length were not associated with width and thickness in an F$_2$ population. Scaling test and jonit scaling test revealed that inheritance of grain traits were fitted to additive-dominance model without epistasis. Additive effects for the traits were much greater than the dominance effects.
We estimate the enclosed mass profile in the central 10 pc of the Milky Way by analyzing the infrared photometry and the velocity observations of dynamically relaxed stellar population in the Galactic center. HST/NICMOS and Gemini Adaptive Optics images in the archive are used to obtain the number density profile, and proper motion and radial velocity data were compiled from the literature to find the velocity dispersion profile assuming a spherical symmetry and velocity isotropy. From these data, we calculate the the enclosed mass and density profiles in the central 10 pc of the Galaxy using the Jeans equation. Our improved estimates can better describe the exact evolution of the molecular clouds and star clusters falling down to the Galactic center, and constrain the star formation history of the inner part of the Galaxy.
The present study is the first report of molecular variations in different accessions of Rauvolfia tetraphylla L.f, a medicinally important plant collected from seven locations of Andhra Pradesh, India. Molecular analysis was carried out using RAPD markers. Out of the 40 primers screened from OPA and OPC Kts, a total of 205 scorable polymorphic markers out of 397 total markers were generated. Polymorphism of 51.6% was found with 3 unique markers. Levels of genetic diversity within accessions i.e., the genetic distance ranged from 0.816-0.932. Cluster analysis based on Dice coefficient showed two major groups indicating that mostly in cross-pollinated plants, high levels of differentiation among accessions exists independent of geographical distance. Hence the results of the present study can be seen as a starting point for future researches on the population and evolutionary genetics of this species. Understanding such variation would also facilitate their use in various conservational management practices, rootstock breeding and hybridisation programmes.
The purpose of this study is to examine the pattern and characteristics of population movement in Kangwon province. The data for this study were drawn from in- out- migration data established by Korea National Statistical Office(KNSO) between 2000 and 2007. Sample survey and depth interview were also used. The results showed that the population of all Si and Gun except Choonchun and Wonju declined. This decline of population in Kangwon province persisted during the last decades. The decline started with the industrialization in the 1960s and 1980s. The decline of population in Kangwon province continued in the 1990s and 2000s with the open agriculture policy rooted in UR and FTA. All Si and Gun can be classified into five groups in terms of population movement in Kangwon province between 2000 and 2007. The first group(Group B) is where in-migration from other Si and Gun and out-migration to Seoul and Kyunggi continues in the period. Choonchun, Wonju, and Sokcho belong to this category. The second group(Group C) is where out-migrarion to Seoul and Kyunggi is larger the in-migration. It includes Cholwon, Taebaek, Donghae, and Samchok. The third group(Group D) is where out-migration to Group B is larger than that of other places. Hwachun, Pyungchang, Hoegsung, Gosung, and Hongchun are included in this group. The fourth group(Group E) is where out-migration to both Group B and Seoul & Kyunggi is large. Youngwol, Gangnung, and Chungsun belong to this category. The fifth group(Group F) is where few population movement occurs. It includes Yangyang, Yanggu, and Injae. The findings also shows that the extent of population movement to Choonchun and Wonju is larger than that of Seoul and Kyunggi in recent period. This finding indicates that the effect of base city like Choonchun and Wonju has become in recent years.

The Genetic diversity and relationship of native Siri (Bos indicus) cattle populations of Bhutan were evaluated using 20 microsatellite markers. A total of 120 Siri cattle were sampled and were grouped into four populations according to their geographical locations which were named Siri West, Siri South, Siri Central and Siri East cattle. For each, 30 individuals were sampled. In addition, 30 samples each of Indian Jaba (B. indicus), Tibetan Goleng (B. taurus), Nepal Hill cattle (B. indicus), Holstein Friesian (B.taurus) and Mithun (B. frontalis) were typed. The mean number of alleles per loci (MNA) and observed heterozygosity (Ho) were high in the Siri populations ($MNA=7.2{\pm}0.3$ to $8.9{\pm}0.5$ and $Ho=0.67{\pm}0.04$ to $0.73{\pm}0.03$). The smallest coefficient of genetic differentiation and genetic distance ($F_{ST}=0.015$ and $D_A=0.073$) were obtained between Siri West and Siri Central populations. Siri East population is genetically distinct from the other Siri populations being close to the Indian Jaba ($F_{ST}=0.024$ and $D_A=0.084$). A high bootstrap value of 96% supported the close relationship of Siri South, Siri Central and Siri West, while the relationship between Siri East and Jaba was also supported by a high bootstrap value (82%). Data from principal component analysis and individual assignment test were in concordance with the inference from genetic distance and differentiation. In conclusion we identified two separate Siri cattle populations in Bhutan at the genetic level. One population included Siri cattle sampled from the West, Central and South of the country and the other Siri cattle was sampled from the East of the country. We suggest that Siri cattle conservation program in Bhutan should focus on the former population as it has received less genetic influence from other cattle breeds.
Objective: The feed intake (FI) and feed efficiency are economically important traits in ducks. To obtain insight into this economically important trait, we designed an experiment based on the residual feed intake (RFI) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of a random population Pekin duck. Methods: Two thousand and twenty pedigreed random population Pekin ducks were established from 90 males mated to 450 females in two hatches. Traits analyzed in the study were body weight at the 42th day (BW42), 15 to 42 days average daily gain (ADG), 15 to 42 days FI, 15 to 42 days FCR, and 15 to 42 days RFI to assess their genetic interrelationships. The genetic parameters for feed efficiency traits were estimated using restricted maximum likelihood (REML) methodology applied to a sire-dam model for all traits using the ASREML software. Results: Estimates heritability of BW42, ADG, FI, FCR, and RFI were 0.39, 0.38, 0.33, 0.38, and 0.41, respectively. The genetic correlation was high between RFI and FI (0.77) and moderate between RFI and FCR (0.54). The genetic correlation was high and moderate between FCR and ADG (-0.80), and between FCR and BW42 (-0.64), and between FCR and FI (0.49), respectively. Conclusion: Thus, selection on RFI was expected to improve feed efficiency, and reduce FI. Selection on RFI thus improves the feed efficiency of animals without impairing their FI and increase growth rate.
Two hundred and sixty Korean soybean landrace accessions were analyzed for polymorphism at 92 simple sequence repeat(SSR) loci. The 995 identified alleles served as raw data for estimating genetic diversity and population structure. The number of alleles at a locus ranged from three to 27 with a mean of 10.4 alleles per locus. $F_{ST}$ values estimated by analysis of molecular variance(AMOVA) using SSR data set were 0.018, 0.027, and 0.016 for usage, collection site and maturity groups, respectively, indicating little genetic differentiation. The model-based clustering analysis placed the accessions into three clusters(K=3) with 0.0503 of $F_{ST}$, indicating moderate genetic differentiation. Duncan's Multiple Range Test at K = 3 on the basis of 18 quantitative traits revealed that one cluster was mainly differentiated from the other two clusters by seed related traits and the other two clusters were differentiated from each other by biochemical traits. Genetic structure of Korean soybean landraces was differentiated by model-based clustering and supported by their phenotypic traits in part. This preliminary study could be the first step towards more efficient germplasm management and utilization of soybean landraces and helpful in association studies between genotypic and phenotypic traits in Korean soybean landraces.
