Chromosome numbers were studied for three species of the genus Fusarium from observation of vegetative nuclear division in hyphae with aid of Giemsa-HCl techniques. It was confirmed that observation on the nuclear division could best be made at the growing hyphal tip and near the cells. The general shape of chromosome was dot-like form. The results confirmed that the chromsome number in n=8 in F. solani and F. moniliforme, and n=6 in F. cocophilum.

In March 2010, grafted cucumber cultivated in the greenhouse showed a severe rot on crown resulting yellowing and wilting of the leaves. The symptoms of naturally infected plants showed dark brown, watersoaked lesions at the base of the stem. The fungus produced mass of white mycelium and yellow to orange spores in necrotic lesions on dead and dying plants. Fungus was isolated from rotted tissues of the crown and root. On the basis of morphological characteristics, ITS sequence and pathogenicity tests, the isolate was identified as Fusarium solani f. sp. cucurbitae. This is the first report of the crown and foot rot of grafted cucumber caused by F. solani f. sp. cucurbitae in Korea.
by use of HCl-Giemsa technique and light microscope, dividing vegetative nuclei in hyphae of Fusarium species were observed and the results are summerized. The chromosome number of these fungi was ranged 4 to 8. Of the 20 strains, the highest haploid chromosome number is 8 in F. solani S Hongchun K4, F. moniliforme (from banana) and F. raphani (from radish). The lowest is 4 in F. sporotrichioides NRRL 3510 and F. equiseti KFCC 11843 IFO 30198. F. solani 7468 (from Sydney), F. solani 7475 (from Sydney), F. oxysporum(from tomato). F. roseum (from rice), F. sporotrichioides C Jngsun 1, F. equiseti C Kosung 1 and F. avenaceum 46039 are n=7. F. moniliforme (from rice) F. graminearum, F. proliferatum 6787 (from Syndey), F. proliferatum 7459 (from Synder) and F. anguioides ATCC 20351 are n=6. F. moniliforme NRRL 2284, F. poae NRRL 3287 and F. trincinctum NRRL 3299 are n=5. From these results, it may be concluded that the basic haploid chromosome number of the genus Fusarium is 4 and mat have been evolutionary variation of chromosome number through aneuploidy and polyploidy.
Incidence of stem rot on carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) ranged 11 to 29% in Namwon and Chongup area during the growing seasons from 1993 to 1994. Among 129 isolates from carnations in Namwon, 77 isolates were identified as Rhizoctonia solani, 38 isolates were Fusarium oxysporum and 14 isolates were not identified. Among 169 isolates in Chongup, 19 isolates were identified as R. solani, 106 isolates as F. oxysporum and 44 isolates were not identified. Among 77 isolates of R. solani isolated from the specimens of Namwon, 52 isolates were classified as anastomosis group AG 2-2 by anastomosis test, 14 isolates as AG 2-1 and 11 isolates as AG 4. Among 19 isolates from specimens of Chongup, 14 isolates were classified as anastomosis group AG 2-2 and 5 isolates as AG 4. Pathogenicity tests revealed that isolates of F. oxysporum and R.solani AG 2-2 were highly virulent and isolates of R.solani AG 2-1 and AG 4 were mildly virulent.
Fungal isolates belong to Fusarium solani (perfect stage : Nectria haematococca) were isolated form pea, ginseng roots and soybean during 1995 and 1996 in Korea. Thirty-five isolates were identified as F. solani f. sp. pisi based on the morphological characteristics and their pathogenicity. Microconidia formed on the long conidiophore were ovoid or oblong sizing 5~14 x 2.5~5.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Macroconidia were formed on carnation leaf agar media with 4.8~5.3 x 32.0~40.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in size. They belonged to $\beta$-type since their 3-septate macroconidia were smaller than $5\mu\textrm{m}$ in width. Chlamydospores were smooth- or rough- walled and formed in terminal or lateral branches of hyphae, intercalary, or in chains. Most isolates were highly virulent to pea seedlings, producing dark brown or rot lesions. This is the first report of f. solani f. sp. pisi being pathogenic to pea in Korea.

Cymbidium orchids with blight and rot symptoms were collected, and a total of 63 isolates of Fusarium app. was obtained from pseudobulbs, roots, and leaves of the diseased plants. The isolates were identified based on their morphological characteristics. Out of the 63 isolates of Fusatium sup., 51 isolates were identified as F. oxysporum, 10 isolates as F. solani, and the rest as F. proliferatum. F. oxysporum was isolated from all the Cymbidium spp., while F. solani and F. proliferatum were isolated only from Cymbidium ensifolium and C. ginatum, respectively. Isolates of the three Fusarium spp. were tested for pathogenicity to their hosts by artificial inoculation. The strongly pathogenic isolates of Fusarium spp. induced severe dry rot of pseudobulbs and roots of the host plants. The symptoms progressed up to the basal part of the leaves, which later caused blight of the entire plant. The dry root symptoms induced on the plants by artificial inoculation with the isolates of Fusarium app. were similar to those observed in the growers'greenhouses. This is the first report of dry rot of Cymbidium spp. caused by F. oxysporum, F. solani, and F. proliferatum in Korea.

A 4-year-old intact female veiled chameleon was presented with anorexia and respiratory symptoms. Physical examination revealed mild lethargy, open-mouthed breathing and stomatitis, with sticky fluid coating the oral mucus membrane. Pathogens such as Pseudomonas spp., Aeromonas spp., Ranavirus spp. or Herpes spp. has previously been implicated to cause stomatitis. Cytology confirmed fungal hyphae and bacterial growth. Molecular analysis revealed Fusarium (F.) solani and Pseudomonas spp. The fungus F. solani is known to cause keratitis in humans, and has been reported to cause skin lesions or systemic infections in reptiles. Pseudomonas spp. is a common bacterium in associated with stomatitis. This is the first clinical case report of F. solani infection causing stomatitis in reptiles. Several pathogens should be considered for accurate diagnosis and treatment of stomatitis.
For the selection of powerful antagonistic bacterium for biological control of soilborne Fusarium solani causing root rot of many important crops, the best YPL-1 strain was selected among 300 strains of bacteria isolated from rhizosphere in ginseng root rot-suppressive soil. The strain was identified to be a species to Pseudomonas stutzeri. With in vitro fungal inhibition tests, antagonistic substance of P. stutzeri YPL-1 against F. solani was presumed to be heat unstable, macromolecular substances such as protein. Also, it was shown that antifungal activity of P. stutzeri YPL-1 increased in proportion to its chitinase production. P. stutzeri YPL-M122 (chi-, lam -) which was deprived of the productivity of chitinase and laminarinase by NTG mutagenesis had lost antifungal activity, completely. And P. stutzeri YPL-MI53 (chi-) had only 4.1% of its antifungal activity. P. stutzeri YPL-1 was not able to produce any extracellular siderophore in iron-deficent minimal medium. It is confident that the antifungal mechanism of P. stutzeri YPL-1 for biocontrol of F. solani depends on lysis rather than antibiosis :the mechanism of lysis appears to involve enzymatic degradation of the cell will components of F. solani by hydrolytic enzymes of more chitinase and less laminarinase.
Wilted soybean plants were collected from soybeans cultivation fields in Korea from 2014 to 2016. Fusarium spp., Colletotrichum spp., Rhizoctonia spp., Macrophomina sp., Phytophthora spp., and Calonectria ilicicola were obtained from the infected samples. Out of these, Fusarium spp. were the dominant species (79.1%). In total, 53 isolates were identified as F. solani species complex, F. oxysporum species complex, F. graminearum species complex, and F. fujikuroi species complex based on mycological characteristics. Sequence typing analysis was conducted using translation elongation factor 1 alpha (TEF) to confirm the identification of isolates. All isolates were identified as F. solani, F. oxysporum, F. commune, F. asiaticum, and F. fujikuroi based on phylogenetic analysis of TEF sequences. Pathogenicity of 44 isolates was tested on three cultivars of soybean using the root dip inoculation method. Out of 5 Fusarium species, only F. asiaticum could not cause the symptoms or be weak. Ten isolates were selected based on pathogenic characters and species identification to investigate the host range and screen soybean cultivars for resistance. Fusarium solani, F. oxysporum, and F. commune were aggressive only to soybean, and F. fujikuroi was aggressive to kidney bean, yellow cowpea, black cowpea, adzuki bean as well as soybean. All 13 Korean soybean cultivars were susceptible to F. commune and F. fujikuroi. Out of 13 cultivars, cv. Janggi, cv. Poongsannamul, and cv. Socheongja were resistant to Fusarium wilt, while cv. Hwanggeumol and Chamol were susceptible to Fusarium wilt.
Four active strains, producing siderophore and antagonizing to soil plant disease fungi, were isolated and identified from the wheat rhizosphere to reduce the injurious effects of continuous cropping and study on the biological control. The obtained results were summerized as follow. 1. Four strains of fluorescent Pseudomonas were isolated from the wheat rhizosphere and identified as Pseudomonas fluorescens Biotype A(Ps-1,2,5) and Biotype B(Ps-3) That strains inhibitied growth of R. solani, F.oxysperum and F. solani in vitro 2. Optical density of pigment was maximum at 410nm. 3. Siderophore production by identified strains was decreased with addition of $Fe^{+3}$, although not decreased with addition of $Fe^{+2}$ 4. Pigment of Ps-1, 2 and 3 strain inhibitied growth of R. slani, F. oxysperum and F. solani but pigment of Ps-5 strain did not inhibitie growth of R. solani 5. Effect of inoculation was in order of Ps-2, 1, 5 and 3 strain through the dark culture method, and effect of Ps-1 and Ps-2 was greater than that of treatment of captan 50ppm.
