  • Moderate alcohol consumption has been known to be associated with reduced risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). We assessed the association between alcohol consumption and CHD-related risk factors [hypertension, diabetes mellitus (DM) , high total cholesterol, high triglyceride (TG), low HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), and high LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C)] in Korean. After excluding those with extreme intake values, the number of final subjects included in the analysis was 4,662 Korean adults aged over 20 years (1,961 men, 2,701 women) who participate in the 2005 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The subjects were divided into four or five groups; none-alcohol consumption group, moderate alcohol consumption group (<15 or 15.0-29.9 g/d), heavy alcohol consumption group (30-69.9 g/d or ${\geq}$ 70 g/d in men, ${\geq}$ 30 g/d in women). Odds ratios (ORs) were estimated from logistic regression adjusting for potential covariates. Alcohol consumption was inversely associated with low HDL-C in both men and women. However, heavy alcohol intake (${\geq}$ 70 g/d) significantly increased risk for hypertension, DM, and hypertriglyceridemia in men. The frequency of alcohol intake was also associated with CHD risk. The risk for low HDLC was decreased with alcohol consumption (${\geq}$ 1 times/wk), but frequent alcohol intake (${\geq}$ 4 times/wk) increased the risk for hypertension. This study revealed that moderate alcohol consumption has protective effect on CHD-related risk factors in Korean population.

  • EUVL (Extreme Ultra Violet Lithography) is one of competitive lithographic technologies for sub-30nm fabrication of nano-scale Si devices that can possibly replace the conventional photolithography used to make today's microcircuits. Among the core EUVL technologies, mask fabrication is of considerable importance since the use of new reflective optics having a completely different configuration compared to those of conventional photolithography. Therefore new materials and new mask fabrication process are required for high performance EUVL mask fabrication. This study investigated the etching properties of SnO2 (Tin Oxide) as a new absorber material for EUVL binary mask. The EUVL mask structure used for etching is SnO2 (absorber layer) / Ru (capping / etch stop layer) / Mo-Si multilayer (reflective layer) / Si (substrate). Since the Ru etch stop layer should not be etched, infinitely high selectivity of SnO2 layer to Ru ESL is required. To obtain infinitely high etch selectivity and very low LER (line edge roughness) values, etch parameters of gas flow ratio, top electrode power, dc self - bias voltage (Vdc), and etch time were varied in inductively coupled Cl2/Ar plasmas. For certain process window, infinitely high etch selectivity of SnO2 to Ru ESL could be obtained by optimizing the process parameters. Etch characteristics were measured by on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. Detailed mechanisms for ultra-high etch selectivity will be discussed.

  • Tidal residual is being an important factor by the influence of the climate change in terms of the coastal safety and defense. It is one of the most important factor for the determination of the reference sea level in order to check the safety and performance of the coastal structures in company with the typhoon intensity variation. The probability density function (pdf) of tidal residuals in the Korean coasts have a non-ignorable skewness and high kurtosis. It is highly restricted to the application of the normal pdf assumption as an approximated pdf of tidal residuals. In this study, the pdf of tidal residuals estimated using the Kernel function is suggested as a more reliable and accurate pdf of tidal residuals than the normal function. This suggested pdf shows a good agreement with the empirical cumulative distribution function and histogram. It also gives the more accurate estimation result on the extreme values in comparison with the results based on the normal pdf assumption.

  • The polymetallic Co, Ni, Cu, As, Au, and Ag deposits of Bou Azzer East are located in the western part of the Bou Azzer inlier in the Central Anti Atlas, Morocco. Six stages of emplacement of the mineralization have been identified. Precious metals (native gold and electrum) are present in all stages of this deposit except the early nickeliferous stage. From the Statistical analysis of the Co, As, Ni, Au, and Ag contents of a set of 501 samples, shows that the Pearson correlation coefficient between As-Co elements (0.966) is the highest followed by that of the Au-Ag couple (0.506). Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical ascending classification (HAC) of the grades show, that Ni is associated with the pair (As-Co) and Cu is rather related to the pair (Au-Ag). The kriging maps show that the highest values of the Co, As and Ni appear in the contact of the serpentinite with other facies, as for those of Au and Ag, in addition to anomalous zones concordant with those of Co, Ni and As, they show anomalies at the extreme South and North of the study area. The development of the anomalous Au and Ag zones is mainly along the N40-50°E and N145°E directions.

  • In the flood plain, river facilities such as sports facilities and ecological park are builded up since the late 2000s. The recent increase of rainfall intensity and flood frequency results in the immersions of parks and river facilities located in the flood plain. Therefore it is necessary to perform the numerical analysis for the extreme rain storm in the flood plain. In this study, to analyze the hydraulic impact by lowering and rising of the water level at flood plain, Both the FaSTMECH, which is a quasi-unsteady flow analysis model to be used for simulating the wet and dry, and the Nays2D, which is unsteady flow analysis model, are used in this study. Also, the flow velocity distribution and the inundation are compared over a period of the typhoon. As a result, the flow velocity distribution at flood plain showed very low values compared to the flow rate in the main channel. This means that the problem of sedimentation is more important than that of erosion in the flood plain.

  • A parametric sensitivity to the annual exposure dose rate to the farming exposure group has been deterministically carried out for three principal elements identified in the near-field of the pyroprocessed waste repository system as a series study of Part 1 of the coupled paper with the same title. Credit time for both metal and ceramic containers, annual nuclide release rete and the degree of loss of bentonite buffer around the container are selected and investigated deterministically for important nuclides. To this end the A-KRS has been assessed and then compared among each other with the normal, the worst, and the best case scenarios associated with their extreme values these elements could have. All the elements are shown to be sensitive to the results as was in Part 1. Methodology studied through this study and the results are expected to make a good feedback to the repository design.

  • Collaborative filtering has been most widely used in commercial sites to recommend items based on the history of user preferences for items. The basic idea behind this method is to find similar users whose ratings for items are incorporated to make recommendations for new items. Hence, similarity calculation is most critical in recommendation performance. This paper presents a new similarity measure that takes each rating of a user relatively to his own ratings. Extensive experiments revealed that the proposed measure is more reliable than the classic measures in that it significantly decreases generation of extreme similarity values and its performance improves when consulting neighbors with high similarites only. In particular, the results show that the proposed measure is superior to the classic ones for datasets with large rating scales.

  • To estimate the severity of streamflow drought, this study introduced the concept of streamflow drought index based on threshold level method and Seomjingang Dam inflow was applied. Threshold levels used in this study are fixed, monthly and daily threshold, The $1^{st}{\sim}3^{rd}$ analysis results of annual drought, the severe hydrological droughts were occurred in 1984, 1988 and 1995 and the drought lasted for a long time. Annual compared to extreme values of total water deficit and duration, the drought occurred in 1984, 1988, 1995 and 2001 was serious level. In the results of study, because a fixed threshold level is not reflect seasonal variability, at least the threshold under seasonal level was required. Threshold levels determined by the monthly and daily were appropriate. The proposed methodology in this study can be used to forecast low-flow and determine reservoirs capacity.

  • Recently the world has been suffering from difficulties related to the demand and supply of energy due to the democratic movements sweeping across the Middle East. Consequently, many have turned their attention to never-developed extreme regions such as the polar lands or deep sea, which contain many underground resources. This research investigated the strength and initial elastic modulus values of eternally frozen ground through a uniaxial compression test and indirect tensile test using frozen artificial soil specimens. To ensure accurate test results, a sandymud mixture of standard Jumunjin sand and kaolinite (20% in weight) was used for the specimens in these laboratory tests. Specimen were prepared by varying the water content ratio (7%, 15%, and 20%). Then, the variation in the strength value, depending on the water content, was observed. This research also established three kinds of environments under freezing temperatures of $-5^{\circ}C$, $-10^{\circ}C$, and $-15^{\circ}C$. Then, the variation in the strength value was observed, depending on the freezing environment. In addition, the tests divided the loading rate into 6 phases and observed the variation in the stress-strain ratio, depending on the loading rate. The test data showed that a lower freezing temperature resulted in a larger strength value. An increase in the ice content in the specimen with the increase in the water content ratio influenced the strength value of the specimen. A faster load rate had a greater influence on the uniaxial compression and indirect tensile strengths of a frozen specimen and produced a different strength engineering property through the initial tangential modulus of elasticity. Finally, the long-term strength under a constant water content ratio and freezing temperature was checked by producing stress-strain ratio curves depending on the loading rate.

  • A lot of long-span marine bridge, which connects land to island or island to island, are being designed and constructed lately in south-west coast in South Korea. In the past, caisson foundations in marine were mainly adopted in construction and stability aspect, however, nowadays with development of pile construction technology, drilled shaft foundations are mainly adopted. As the long span cable stayed bridge and suspension bridge applied with lots of loads are being designed, the scale of pile foundations are getting larger. As the construction cost of substructure including foundation in marine bridges is too high, the appropriate evaluation of the axial bearing capacity of pile becomes a core factor to decide the construction cost of foundation if the drilled shaft is adopted as foundation type of bridge. The evaluation values of skin friction and end bearing capacity of drilled shaft in weathered rock suggested in south Korea are only to introduce the foreign specifications, and most of them are designed in a kind of hard soil layer. Also the allowable load of pile section is less than the expected bearing capacity of pile in the soil condition since the allowable capacity of pile is undervalued. Recently in order to improve this factor the bi-axial hydraulic load test of pile was taken, the data of load transfer analysis of pile, unit of skin friction and end bearing capacity are accumulated. In our country, the design of piles are made with ASD, however, LRFD considering service, strength and extreme state was adopted in Incheon Grand Bridge implemented with BTL, and the research to systematize the resistance coefficient appropriate at home country are being progressed.
