In this study, a heavy metal stabilization treatment using waste resource stabilizing agents was utilized on army firing range soil contaminated with Pb and Cu. Both calcined oyster shells (COS; 5% w/w) and waste cow bone (WCB; 3% w/w) were applied for a wet-curing duration of 28 days. Following the stabilization treatment, the process efficiency was evaluated by various extraction methods for Pb and Cu. Neutral and weak acid extraction methods, such as water soluble extraction and SPLP, did not show positive results for heavy metal stabilization with very low leachability. On the other hand, TCLP and 0.1 N HCl extraction showed that the stabilizing agents significantly reduced the amount of the heavy metals leached from the soil, which strongly supports that the treatment efficiency is positively evaluated in acidic leaching conditions. Specifically, in the 0.1 N HCl extraction, the reduction efficiencies of Pb and Cu leaching were 99.9% and 83.9%, respectively. From the sequential extraction results, a difference between Pb and Cu stabilization was observed, which supports that Pb stabilization is more effective due to the formation of insoluble Pb complexes. This study demonstrates that the application of waste resources for the stabilization of heavy metals is feasible.

In this study, we performed various extraction condition experiments such as types and concentrations of extractants, amounts of extraction sources, pretreatment processes, to optimize the calcium ion extraction for precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) production. CaO was used as a calcium extraction source, The extraction amount of calcium ions and the particle size of CaO were determined by ICP and SEM results. As a result, 100% calcium ion was extracted when 2 M hydrochloric acid was used as an extractant, and the optimum amount of the extraction source was 6 g. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the reaction time, reaction temperature, particle milling and heat treatment process had no significant effect on the calcium ion extraction amount.
This study was conducted to investigate the physicochemical properties of citrus peel extracts with different hot water extraction and enzymatic hydrolysis conditions. Enzymatic hydrolysis was also employed using Viscozyme L and results were compared with that of optimized hot water extract. Hot water extraction was performed under different parameters; the sample to solvent ratio(1:20, 1:15, 1:10), extraction time(2, 4 hrs), extraction temperature(85, $95^{\circ}C$) and enzymatic hydrolysis(0, 1%) and the subsequent extracts were used for determining their physicochemical properties, such as total yield, total phenolics, total flavonoids, and electron donating ability (EDA). With the increase in the sample to solvent ratio and extraction time, total yield, total phenolics, total flavonoids and EDA increased. But extraction temperature did not significantly affect the hot water extract. As hot water extract was hydrolyzed by the enzyme, total yield and active ingredients increased rapidly. In the result of total yield, total phenolics, total flavonoids and EDA, the activity of enzyme-treated extract was higher than those of enzyme-untreated extract. Based upon the overall hot water extraction efficiency, it was found that 20 times volume or 120 min at a time at $95^{\circ}C$ after enzyme treatment was optimal.
Effects of particle size and high pressure processing on the extraction rate of oil compounds from soybean powder were evaluated by Soxhlet method using hexane and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) using $CO_{2}$. SFE was carried out at 4,000 psi and $50^{\circ}C$ for 4 hr. The mean particle sizes were varied from 26.7 to 862.0 ${\mu}m$ by controlling milling time. Saturation solubility increased as the particle size decreased. At large particle size, high pressure processing (HPP) showed higher extraction yield in both hexane extraction and SFE, but, as the particle size decreased, the HPP was irrelevant to the extraction yield in SFE. The higher extraction rate obtained from the smaller particle size. The scanning electronic microscopy of soybean powder treated by HPP showed pores on the surface of the particle. The higher extraction rate and yield from HPP treatment might be due to the less internal resistance of transferring the solvent and miscellar in the solid matrix by collapsing of tissues.

The practical use of Korean native black goat skin as a source of gelatin extraction is limited. The objective of this study was to optimize the extraction temperature and time of gelatin from Korean native black goat skin, and to compare the quality characteristics of goat skin gelatin and other commercial gelatin products. Response surface methodology was applied to optimize the extraction temperature and time of gelatin obtained from native Korean black goat skin. The effects of temperature (50℃-70℃) and time (2-4 h) on extraction yield and gel strength were investigated using a face-centered central composite design with 13 experiments. Gelatin extraction from Korean native black goat skin was prepared through the serial processes of alkali pre-treatment, bleaching, neutralization, hot-water extraction, and freeze-drying. Using the optimization plot of Minitab software, the optimized conditions for extracting temperature and time of goat skin gelatin were 59.49℃ and 3.03 h, and the optimized values of extraction yield and gel strength were 12.52% and 263.37 g, respectively. Based on a quality comparison of goat skin gelatin with commercial gelatin, the pH value of gelatin extracted from Korean native black goat skin was 5.57. The color of gelatin extracted from Korean native black goat skin was darker than that of commercial gelatin (p<0.05). Higher emulsifying properties and gel strength of goat skin gelatin were observed when compared to those of commercial gelatin (p<0.05). Therefore, the results of this study indicate that Korean native black goat skin may be a valuable source for gelatin extraction.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dentofacial characteristics and the fost-treatment dentofacial changes of those treated by four premolar extractions and to investigate the factors affecting extraction decision. The sample consisted of 35 patients (27 females, and 8 males) with no more than 7.0mm crowding, diagnosed as Class I protrusion. Pre-treatment and post-treatment lateral cephalograms were evaluated. Computerized statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS/PC+ program. The results were as follows. 1. There was no significant change in skeletal pattern after treatment while there was significant change in dentoalveolar and soft tissue pattern. 2. In pre-treatment skeletal pattern, a tendency toward vertical discrepancy was found. 3. In pre-treatment dental pattern, interincisal angle was $113.11^{\circ}$, U1 to FH was $117.78^{\circ}$ and L1 to A-Pog was 7.94mm. Pre-treatment upper and lower lip position was 2.88mm and 5.43mm to E line. 4. After treatment, interincisal angle increased $14.46^{\circ}$ and upper and lower lip moved back 2.45mm and 3.2mm to E line.(p<0.001) 5. The EI was 138.71 before treatment and 148.2 after treatment.

Xylanase (X) derived from Aurreobasidium pullulans and laccase-mediator system (LM) using Trichophyton sp. LKY-7 laccase (TrL) and N-hydroxy-2-pyridone analogue (NHP) as a mediator were applied in hardwood kraft pulp (HwKP) bleaching. The individual and the synergistic effects of X and LM stage were investigated in the enzymatic bleaching of HwKP. Also, the effects of subsequent alkaline extraction (E) and alkaline/hydrogen peroxide treatment (P) were examined. In X or LM treatment alone, an appreciable bleaching effect of HwKP was not observed, whereas subsequent E or P stage enhanced the increase of brightness and the decrease of kappa number. Especially, P stage significantly enhanced the bleaching effect of pulp. Bleaching of HwKP with XLM sequentially gave significantly higher pulp brightness and lower kappa number than that obtained after the treatment of HwKP with X+LM simultaneously. When HwKP was sequentially treated with XLM followed by P stage, the brightness increased by about 11% ISO and the kappa number decreased by about 3.6 in comparison with the initial pulp. Xylanase and laccase were strongly inactivated by NHP both in the absence and the presence of pulp.

In coagulant control of water treatment plants, rule extraction, one of datamining categories, was performed for coagulant control of a water treatment plant. Clustering methods were applied to extract control rules from data. These control rules can be used for fully automation of water treatment plants instead of operator's knowledge for plant control. To perform fuzzy clustering, there are some coefficients to be determined and these kinds of studies have been performed over decades such as clustering indices. In this study, statistical indices were taken to calculate the number of clusters. Simultaneously, seed points were found out based on hierarchical clustering. These statistical approaches give information about features of clusters, so it can reduce computing cost and increase accuracy of clustering. The proposed algorithm can play an important role in datamining and knowledge discovery.
The causes of the missing teeth are classified as congenital missing, trauma and extraction due to dental caries, variable problems are occured clinically by the missing teeth. The missing of the upper incisors especially would assume a serious aspect, and could be treated by three methods of orthodontic treatment, prosthodontic treatment and autotransplantation of the premolar teeth. The patient of this report had the skeletal class II malocclusion with the left upper central incisor missing, and have been treated with the fixed appliance after extraction of the right upper central incisor and both lower second premolars. The results were obtained as follows: 1. Treatment was done for 1 year 6 months. 2. Normal overbite and overjet were achieved. 3. Cuspal interdigitation was obtained normally. 4. Space problem was resolved with resin restoration of the upper lateral incisors. 5. The upper canines were used as the upper laterals after cuspal contouring. 6. Retention would be required with adequate retainers for a long time to prevent relapsing after treatment.
The purpose of this study was to develope the remediation method of contaminated soils with metals and petroleum. The diesel degrading strain was isolated and identified from the soil contaminated by petroleum at industrial sites. Diesel biodegradation experiment was performed by diesel degrading bacteria in both solution and soil slurry. Contaminated soils by Zn or As and diesel were treated consecutively by steam-vapor extraction, biodegradation, and acid washing. The strain was identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and named as Pseudomonas aeruginosa TPH1. The optimal culture conditions of TPH1 were $20^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0, 3% of diesel concentration. Biodegradation of diesel was performed using the separated strain in liquid medium, and 63% of diesel was degraded in 72 hours. And 52% of diesel was removed in the tested soils. In the treatment of contaminated soils with diesel and Zn or As, 29% ~ 44% of diesel was reduced by steamvapor extraction, 60% ~ 71% of diesel was removed after biodegradation. 47% of Zn and 96% of As were removed after acid(mixture of sulfuric and oxalic acids) washing. It is recommended that consecutive treatment method of steam-vapor extraction, biodegradation and acid washing is effective for remediation of complex contaminated soils with metals and petroleum.
